      Now of course, always take your distance from the vehicle in front of you, if you see the stop lights of the vehicle and it looks like is going to be a complete stop, take your distance and time to stop the truck

    • @rembliekain7643
      @rembliekain7643 Year ago +33

      Stellar? Really in a semi you down shift before you break. Also you have 3 break systems you have a service break an air break and an engine break then if and when all 3 of the breaks do fail after having slowed down significantly by down shifting you put it in reverse and gently tap tap tap the gass if you are at full speed and still on a run away you have already messed up your first 4 methods to stop in time. That said this guy may be able to steer well and was lucky enough to have a large opening and no kid walking around the front of the bus however you can see that from his level of panic he was not clear headed this is why truck schools with obstacle tracks exist. Even though many drivers are still buddy tought and may know enough to pass the driving exam but not enought to truly know the basics by any means. It's very unfortunate that this driver was able to get in to this position in the first place when a proper DoT required pre-trip inspection would have found and identified the unserviceable nature of his rig and prevented this in the first place.

    A tough situation. The truck driver was 100% fortunate. I found it interesting that he received so much praise in the comments..!!?? As soon as he crusted that hill and saw the situation, he should have taken action to ensure his rig never made it the other vehicles. He should have taken action to either flip that rig, or get off the road in a ditch somehow. He wasn’t thinking at all… This is a situation that truck drivers need to be aware of and know what to do.
    A friend of mine was carrying a stone loaded dump through the city and upon turning onto a road that was going down hill, he lost his brakes, and at the bottom of the hill after stopping you could only go left or right. His 22 year old daughter happened to be in the truck with him.. as soon as he checked his brakes, he told his daughter, “hold on, we going over!” He turned the wheel and the truck flipped over.. Probably saved someone’s life… When it happened he knew exactly what he had to do, and did it.. He and his daughter had a few bumps and bruises, stiff for a while, but they were ok…

      I dunno about that. Choosing to squeeze between the 2 vehicles was definitely one of the most dangerous things to try there. Although he was successful, he did endanger everybody else around him there.
      Wouldn't it have been better to get off of the road? Even if that did directly result in him crashing, he would have at least stopped being a direct danger to the other drivers.
      Honestly, it was just too risky imo.

      @LordJuztice 3 years ago +13

      @@OrangeSheep14 There was plenty of...off road he could take. The most dangerous thing he could done was drive at a high speed while kids are exiting a bus.
      He wouldn't seen if some kid decided to run in front of the bus to the other side of the road...
      Alls well that ends well, but that doesn't mean that the decision which lead to a one in a thousand "ended well" was the right decision.
      There were no deep ditches so he'd probably had a bumpy ride, but he could taken either the left or the right and had more sight of the kids than he did by driving as he did.
      Having been in his position I'd probably done the exact same thing. You don't calculate for the thousand scenarios that can happen. You don't imagine the worst scenario, you calculate the likelihood of you succeeding and if you believe you'll make it, then you take it!
      Were there better choices to be made? Yes, but those choices are rarely available while in a spicy situation and while panicked. Luckily he didn't just shutdown and drive right into the bus.
