  • Welcome to one of the most embarrassing days of my life as a mental health advocate. It hurts to be labelled violent and not worthy enough to have the right to work because of my diagnosis with Bipolar Disorder in this 21st century.

😊My name is Ese and I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 2015.
Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that causes extreme mood swings which include emotional highs (mania) and lows (depression).
Its symptoms really affect sleep, energy, activity, judgment, behavior & the ability to think clearly.

Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your story. Many of these so-called school counsellors are just religious people with zero knowledge and fixed mindsets refusing to learn anything new. They are part of the problems of our school system, especially when adolescents are involved. Thank God for how far you've reached on your journey.. keep soaring 🎉

      You’re most welcome, Edem🤗
And what you said is very true. I’ve met some students who don’t feel seen or heard by their career or religious counsellors when it comes to issues pertaining to mental health and it’s my prayer that it becomes a thing of the past.
Indeed, God really deserves all the credit in my journey 🦅

Okay so I happened to work with Esenam during her National Service. She was very effective, hardworking and dedicated in carrying out her duties throughout the period. She never showed any signs of having mental health condition. I'd advice we don't tag/judge people with the challenges they're going through base the little knowledge or perceptions we have on mental health but rather encourage them to feel accepted in the society. Thank you.

I am so sorry about this Esenam. I know how painful it is when old wounds are revisited. I pray for healing for you. At the end of the day, there are a lot of educated ignorants all about.

Wow. Really hurt watching this. He was insinuating you were incompetent or did something wrong on the job. That was so unfair, insensitive and HIGHLY UNNECESSARY. You handled it really well. That level of trigger can be so difficult to manage. Sheesh. Massive respect to you. May there be kinder days. I’m proud of you, sis❤
