Rusty Arbor Press Restoration

- This arbor press was in bad shape. It was so rusty it wouldn't work and it was missing parts. In this video I cleaned, stripped repainted and replaced the missing parts to get this arbor press back to working order.
*Works perfectly for my use as a heated press **MyBest.Tools** Space between the ram jack and the base is a little tight. Make sure you set the ram jack arm so that it's in a position for you to get maximum leverage on whatever you're pressing. You may have to unbolt the front plate of the press and realign the ram in the teeth so that the arm is not at an awkward angle when fully cranked down.Other than aligning the ram in the teeth with the crank arm this .5 ton arbor press comes out of the box pretty much ready to use.*
Excellent video. I am rehabbing a Dake #1. Your video is on point with what I am trying to do. Thank you for the ideas and methods. What do you think a our a hole in bottom of ram to allow for a die. Set screw in side to hold die in place. Ram is 1 1/4” so thinking 3/8 hole. I worry that it might weaken the ram. Again many thanks.
Mine already has that feature. It actually had a pinch pin installed when I brought it home. Im sure you could get away with a 3/8" hole. Thanks for watching!
How you decided what size of the table to be? Thickness?
A lot of effort and good result 👍
In short, you are great sir
I think I'd have drilled it and pressed a pin in so fair play. I wondered if you would part it off 😂
I wanted to part off the table but I don't have a parting tool big enough. If you're talking about the knurled knob I almost forgot to file the chamfers, I came close to parting it all the way off
@@GreenridgeMetalWorks I think he meant the pin under the anvil. Sounds to me like he would face off the stock on the lathe, drill a blind hole and use a pin instead of removing all that steel to form the anvil pin. But looks like you have plenty of metal and it makes for a unique one-piece anvil.
might wanna think about finding a stronger paint stripper but other then that it looks great
Yep, I was unimpressed. Thanks 😊
@@GreenridgeMetalWorks , check out www.bencosales.com . You can still buy methylene chloride strippers thru them.
Yeah that stripper sucks. Ive had good luck with Klean Strip, its a NON-METHYLENE product. But John is right, get Methylene if its available and you wont have that issue.....
Great job! I learned some things.
Thanks! Love your username! Wondering if your real name is Dale?
What kind is the pressure of this press?
It doesn't have a makers mark but I think it's the same brand that Jet sells. It's a one ton press. Thanks for watching 😊
Excellent work, greetings from Southport UK.
😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
I don’t usually comment on yt vids but... well done!
Great tool and excellent restoration !!! I myself want to find and make a similar press somewhere for myself. Good luck in further projects !! Well, we have interesting videos !! Great job!
Thanks!
The metal rod to perform the detailed paint work was a neat tip, thank you!
Superb restoration !😊🇨🇦
Love the knurled handle lock knob! I think I will borrow that design.
Thanks!
Great job.
All it's missing is the sound of footsteps walking away at the end of the video.
Thanks!
Good work a thumbs up from me.
Great job guys! 👍🏼
very good job, guys
Came out nice.
Hi bro 👋👋👋very good restoration press 💪👍💣👌🏽
Thanks a lot.
3:19 how did you know the knob at the end would unscrew?
It was more obvious in person. Thanks for watching 😊
Good...🇬🇧☺️
good job
Somebody's been watching MyMechanics!
I did see his arbor press video but I promise, I've had this press long before I seen his video and it's been on my project list for a long time. Thanks for watching.
@@GreenridgeMetalWorks I was just joshin' ya! You did a great job with this, especially the table. Keep up the good work!
Молодец мужик👍
