    I hit this sweep all the time, thanks for some additional details. I’m going to work on getting some of those triangles. I find not many people play lasso which makes it a bitch for people to get out of once your locked in.

      Also, will the second sweep you show, the tilt pant grab sweep, work if the opponent is standing? Thanks

    • @BecauseJitsu
      @BecauseJitsu  4 года назад +1

      That will depend on if it is close to your hips or not. Sometimes it will be out of range. But, if it's essentially in the same place as the combat base version I showed, it will work.
      You'll really need to emphasize the weight you place on their lassoed arm when they're standing to Ge them to tumble over.
      Think of trying to pull their arm to the ground beside them to get that tilt.

      @@BecauseJitsu Extending the leg really helped securing the lasso tonight. Can I make a request? I'm the smallest guy at my school (160lbs) and everyone there is 200lbs or more. I have a lot of success being quicker in scrambles and positioning, but there is this one guy who is so freaking strong I feel like I cant really do anything. Any advice for the little weak guy?

      @@mesleyraves9983 I know them feels. I'm a lightweight too. About 165.
      To survive against thicc bois, your going to need to focus on framing on the bottom as well as staying mobile until you're were you wanna be.
      There are a couple videos on this channel that can help flesh that out. One called Stop Getting Squished and one called Improve Your Guard Retention.

    i use the lasso in conjunction with other guards: lasso on one side, butterfly hook & under hook on the other side; lasso & opposite side rdlr. it's mad style points if you can dlr the leg on the same side while holding lasso with the same leg, borderline disrespectful sweep lol

    When I started BJJ I was 6'6" 195 lbs and have rubber guard flexibility. My Coach taught me lasso and spider within my first 2 months and once I figured out how to not get stacked and smash passed, my guard became super frustrating for most. Long legs and arms, lanky and flexible, I could even stall a few purple belts out even as a white belt with a good lasso. Of course once I tried to transition, they countered and proceeded to demolish me for my impudence, but that's the game. About 8 months in we had a seminar and the other guys asked the Professor how to deal with Lasso. He taught them all the counters that threw a wrench into my game big time. But I moved a few weeks later, and at the new gym none of those guys had seen my game so the lasso was back on. Moves and counters. How about a video on how to counter their defenses? ;)

      Very wise. The key that I took away from this is that whenever your training partners begin to figure out all of your moves, switch gyms. Beautiful, champ. I'll start looking today! Oss!

  • @garrydye2394
    @garrydye2394 4 года назад +2

    Good video but as you stated...you can't do the bicep slicer unless you are brown belt or above in IBJJF but no brown belt or above is going to fall for the bicep slicer. So ends up being one of those moves you can get on a few white belts when they don't know enough to not walk around your guard while in Lasso.

    • @tommym321
      @tommym321 4 года назад

      Garry Dye if your opponent won’t walk around your guard, you can also arch into them to bump them back slightly, then you rotate your own body and put yourself in the exact same position as if the opponent had put himself there.

    My .02 cents, sometimes you can bait your opponent into lasso if they attempt a standing straight ankle lock and you grip their sleeve and push your foot through like you're putting on the boot. Great details otherwise.
