- This video I discuss the Shallow Lasso and Single Sleeve Control. This Guard is in my opinion one of the most important to understand in jiu jitsu because it is extremely easy to set up and allows for transitions to so many other guards, if you want to be able to set up berimbolos crab rides, matrix back takes, or de la riva guard you need to have good initial controls.

This. This is the type of video I've been wanting and needing for so long. Yet no one other than you is doing it. It's important to know the options and see them shown quickly to 'see all the options' or the 'big picture' for an integrated view. Thank you. Always wanted a 'set ups' DVD series created.
This channel is really something! Every video is like a freaking seminar - just shorter and smarter.
Love the content, love the way you explain things, detailed but relevant.
On another note, the guy in the blue Gi at the end looks like his edible just kicked in.
Thank you for all the information on realistic guard play, its been helping my game a lot as I enjoy playing guard but don't have any instructors at my gym that go as in depth as you do. Keep the videos coming pleaseeeeee lol
❤ this dude. However, this is not a one time watch. All Jon’s videos are, watch, pause, go back watch again. Start over, watch, pause, think through what you just watched. Repeat as many times as necessary. Jon talks fast, so it is easy to lose where he is, just watch it many times, the info is pure gold.
You make some of the best damn BJJ videos. Always super high-quality content and excellent presentation. Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge with us.
I've been watching videos every day.
It helps me to do Jiu-Jitsu.
I always watch videos with gratitude.
It would be better if there was a Korean translation.
Have a happy day today.
"its really easy to set up matrix attacks from here" proceeds to do a move from the matrix movie
Hahah man this was one of your more epic breakdowns of a system. I don't think you took a breath between thoughts. Jiu jitsu is meant to flow like this... its constant action reaction and that is why it gets so much more fun as time goes on
I feel like most of these videos are specifically made for me! Love them!
This is legit starting to become my favorite BJJ Channel
Thanks buddy really happy to hear it!
man i just love your style. mimicking my open guard guard game like yours because these r these positions i always find myself when playing double sleeve. thank you professor!
These videos are BRILLIANT!!! I’ve been watching them before my classes lately and it’s sticks in my mind. Love it- THANK YOU SO MUCH!
No problem buddy really happy to help!
I need to watch this every day.
Thank you so much for all these videos, I love your channel
Best Jiu Jitsu with Gi Channel!
Loving the integrated rolling footage
Excellent videos, the rolling content really helps set the context too. Love it, keep them coming!
Awesome stuff and the editing was really good as well to follow all the positions and transitions!
This work so well for me today in class. Thank you so much! Keep up the great content. 🙌🏽🙏🏽🤙🏾
Love this guy. And really impressive to watch. But so much to take on. Hard to digest and absorb properly. With much respect.
Great content. I'd click 'like' 15 times if I could. Your videos that take broad looks at the options presented in a particular guard system are all great. They give me something to try during the next few sessions, probably make some mistakes, forget more than half the material that you machine-gunned at us, haha, and then a month or two later, watch it again and then have a lot more of it actually click. Your videos are some of the best out there, and having a similar lanky body type to yours, it makes it seem that the styles presented are more likely to be viable options for me.
Love the content Jon. It's awesome having these videos that serve as incredible reference guides. I'll go train, come back and rewatch, this time picking up more details based on my training. So so so helpful.
Fantastic video Jonathan!
Essential if you are gonna play open guard on a heavy pressure passer🤙
Thank you for your Kesa. Baby blue belt here. It’s become my main game.
@@kevinhayden9030 Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Always happy to hear I've helped someone 🤙
Absolutely love your content Jon, thank you 🙏
Great review Jon! ❤️
As an older black belt I need to revisit this, thx, makes me want to train..
Man your videos are just amazing.. Thank u
Really like the concept of working from the single sleeve grip guard. I like the detail you put into a simple to achieve grip that leads into a series of movements. Can you make more videos like this from key grips?
Absolutely will do one on what I call single pant control
Great vid again
Shallow Lasso is the new closed guard !
Exelente explicacion realmente de gran ayuda estos videos!!!
Great video and content. But I have to tell you, I heard "Shallow asshole" and now I can't unhear it.
Great video and explanations. Thank you
Amazing!
This is awesome!
Always great vids JT!!
Absolute🔥
This is amazing
Very good instruction.
Love it brother
so so helpful
Fantastic
So good.
Is the man in the blue gi ok? I don't think he blinked.
But great content.
Amazing! Thanks!
A six hour Danaher instructional in 9 minutes 🤣
I've been watching your collar-sleeve series and having a lot of success with it. One problem I had though is getting passed from the shallow lasso. If they kill the other leg, and I get the shallow lasso, that prevents them from passing in the direction of the killed leg. Then I can usually reset the position. But sometimes they reverse direction and end up passing toward the side with the lasso. Anything I can do to prevent this? If they go that direction should I always remove the lasso and try to get the leg to the outside of the body, like you did in this video?
In that situation its basically just a quick scramble to set up a frame and start adjusting your hips to swing the far leg over and start recomposing
New school i like this Style
Constantly putting out good content, just now realized I wasn't subbed. Fixed that. I love how this flows from being a defensive posture to an offensive one. Your open guard game looks like it is a nightmare to deal with.
You are a god
Any videos where you are playing shallow lasso and your opponent is on one knee or both knees?
Where's jons school out of? would be so cool to stop in one day and got matrixed by the master.
Fuck. This is gold.
What if I'm in shallow lasso/collar sleeve and he kills the other leg but not by grabbing the ankle, but rather loop the hand in and grab the gi material around inside of the knee. I find this grip incredibly hard to break and it makes it so easy for him to just press my leg down and pin it to the ground.
When breaking grips you have to create tension first. You do this by pushing your leg to the opposite direction of when you pull his sleeve that holds the grip on your pant. When you feel the tension, kick through and pull the sleeve at the same time. Usually you want to avoid your bottom leg being pinned/trapped when playing Collar Sleeve 👊🏼
@@IlluminatiBJJ Thanks for the tips!
Did the singlle pant grip gaurd entries he referred to ever get made? Anyone got a link?
Hey I’ll make a video on it today and post next week sometime. Great topic to cover. Forgot to get back around to it
@@JonThomasBJJ Thanks so much, I've been focusing on open guard and your videos have been a lifesaver. Particularly your sit up guard content 🔥🔥
The guy sitting with you at the end was not your partner throughout the video....
What is with the look on that guys face at the end. He’s always doing a dead stare lol. Gotta be a joke right?
Great video and explanations. Thank you
