- Las Vegas, Mirage 2000, what's missing? Comparing the MWS against the RWR maybe?? What's the difference between a Missile Warning System and the Radar Warning Receiver? Are they different names for the same thing?
We'll sit in cockpit and compare situations to highlight differences.

Some great early comments came in regarding A10c and the Jeff17 also having MWS... The Jf-17 system was news to me, well done to those who spotted that. The Hawg of course the OG with MWS, not really falling into the jet fighter, but still worthy a mention. Stay tuned for a special look at part of the A10c ver2, coming very soon.
I love the A10 MWS. It’s super audible and timed perfectly. I pop 2 or 3 flares and time it perfectly. I can make 240 last me forever.
Thought the MWS works by detecting the IR signature of a missile launch. Can't imagine how it could detect a shockwave (fast change of air pressure) while having aerodynamic forces working on the plane during flight.
True, MWS is sensitive for rocket motor. When rocket is out of fuel MWS will not detect anything.
It's not possible to detect shockwave, because it will come later than missle :)
There are many types of MWS, some detect and analyse the ultraviolet (UV) signature of the plume from the rocket motor during the boost and sustain phase and can identify the firing system from that signature. UV systems can also detect gunfire from the muzzle flash. There are also Radar MWS that work on Pulse Doppler (PD) and can detect missiles in flight after the rocket motor has run out of fuel. Typically both UV and PD systems can be blended together and used to deploy appropriate countermeasures at the correct time.
The A-10 also has it
I'm sure JF-17 is also equipped with MWS
I forgot I own the Mirage. I really need to invest some time in it. Love it’s design, she flies good too. Been to busy with the Viper and Hornet. Favorite being the Viper!
Have you seen the new intercept vector system in Mirage? Much fun !
I don't understand how people can actually learn how to use these aircraft. I'm decent with the F5's simple avionics but pretty much anything with a modern radar is just way too over my head.
@@rubiconnn step by step, learn one system after another...learning curve is pretty high, but you can slowly climb it...the sweet reward is, that those system are similiar to each other and you can then learn almost any aircraft much more easily...
Thank you for making this helpful video for us.
My pleasure
Correction about the F-16 having a MWS switch. That switch is to allow the CMDS (countermeasures computer) to take input from the MWS (to steer the CMDS if its working automaticaly) however the viper we have in DCS does not have an MWS so this switch will stay unused...
In fact, on release, the JF-17 MWS was a magical system that could detect any missle near the aircraft; as in- coasting amraams fired 20 miles away. It also had a notch-proof radar and fox-3’s that we’re far superior in every way to the aim-120s. It was like Deka ironworks had decided that since many of the capabilities of the JF-17 are classified, they would just rely on what the Chinese government says it can do.
(The fact that many systems and capabilities of the typhoon, JF-17 and apache are classified- and therefor- unknowable makes me question the accuracy of the DCS modules. Just my opinion)
I remember being unable to notch it, and thinking I sucked really bad. Since the notching bug was fixed, I know beyond all doubt,, I suck at notching!
You know what early access means right? The fact that they fixed the MLWS and the radar kinda proves Deka is a good developer. Their missiles were closer to reality then EDs. They forced ED to change the way they do missiles, which is a good thing.
On the second part I have to agree though. ED once told me they wouldn't guess. Now apparently they're building a Blackshark 3 which is pure fantasy. WTF? I think I'm sticking to the late cold War. Maybe they should have as well. They could have easily just given us the A-10A in full fidelity. Then worked there way to the forth gens. Maybe done an F-16A, and a Desert Storm Era F-18A. Or they could have postponed them and done the F-15A or C, A-7E/D to go with the Tomcat, and maybe a Mig-29, and Su-22. But now they have two jets that have been in early access for three and four years. Mover just pointed out some glaring flaws in the Vipers FM. Who really knows if the Hornet's actually accurate. And a community wanting advisories that they can never have. I believe they should have stuck to an Era that they could actually simulate, and aircraft that were declassified enough to accurately simulate.
Doesn’t the A-10C have this too?
Yes but the Mirage is the only "fighter jet" with it in DCS. The A-10 is technically an "attack jet".
@@RogueSpecterGamingOfficial the jf has a mws
Yeah the 10c not so much a fighter jet, but the Jeff is, good catch
The JF-17 is also equipped with MWS.
Yeah but it’s Chinese so it might as well just not exist
Yo how do you pause the game and pause the whole environment while still being able to look around and interact with the cockpit?. When I use active pause it just pauses my jet and the rest of the world remains the same.
there's "pause" (pause/break key) and "active pause" (win+shift+pause key) - hope this helps
@@DCSDigitalCombatSimulator thanks
You need to have the magic2 pylons on to benefit from the full MWS
How does the RWR detect missile launch ?
That's a fantastic question... Basically it can't - it can only detect the RADAR emissions from who/whatever - let's assume another aircraft - but when that aircraft comes to fire a missile, it focuses all is RADAR energy into you at full power, for the missile seeker to track reflections. Your RWR detecting this sudden burst of radar energy at full power that's relentless, is the big clue that gets interpreted by the system as a launch. Obviously this can be fooled by firing a fox 3 in RWS mode for example - and thus the RWR doesn't inform the pilot about a missile launch, until the missile itself goes pitfull at the final 10 miles or so.
@@DCSDigitalCombatSimulator thanks for that explanation :)
