How Princess Peach's Game Is Better Than ANY New Super Mario Bros- The Most UNDERRATED DS Game

  • Super Princess Peach is often overlooked. Perhaps guys like myself were a bit wary to put the game on a birthday list. But many years later, I finally got the game that has always intrigued me. I LOVE the New Super Mario Bros. games and wanted to play every Mario game. I did have Yoshi's Island DS which I'll likely review. Let me tell you, Super Princess Peach suprised me!

    This is a big childhood game of mine that’s never talked about! I definitely agree that it’s better than a lot of Mario games. It’s got so many creative elements that haven’t been seen since, like the shop that actually grants abilities that are used in the levels. The collectibles are also super fun to collect, and as a kid, for whatever reason, I could look at that glossary for HOURS!

    I really enjoyed this game, since Peach is my favorite Mario character. I hope Nintendo makes another game with Peach as the main protagonist, because I feel like her character has been very static these last few years. I love the games where they give her personality and depth, as opposed to her typical damsel-in-distress cliche. She is canonically an extremely powerful person, and it's sad how little that's explored.

    I'm grateful this game is now getting more love overall, I was intrigued by the mere premise of a game starring Peach and its more colorful take of the traditional Mario artsyle since I first saw it as a kid. Its unique presentation and charm are stellar and I'd love for Peach to have another solo adventure someday. But... I'm so fed up of the already low-hanging fruit bashing of the NSMB games. Seriously, it's getting as old, unoriginal and stale as, ironically, how those games are now being perceived. Has everyone forgot that the DS original got as much praise and popularity as most of the 2D classics?

    • @iantaakalla8180
      @iantaakalla8180 2 года назад +8

      That staleness criticism is really best saved for Wii onwards, but the DS original is very unique. It is the only one that does not involve Bowser majorly or the Koopalings. It is the only one involving Guays from World 8 until The Origami King. Its final level is a fake out and its actual final level is very unique. The Castle stages have rocking tense music never repeated since except for spin-offs. And it plays well enough both casually and in a speedrunning sense that new tech is being found to this day. The first NSMB game is very nice.
      And beyond that, the Wii game and other console games onwards are not a bad time with friends. 2 is also not that bad even if the goal is infamous.

    • @redmooncompany922
      @redmooncompany922 2 года назад +1

      people forget that the DS original is original (Wow, what a surprise), there's always the same hollow argument that all New are the same there's no difference (which is obviously a lie)
      Wii: has that phase design for house the multiplayer that already makes it very different from 1
      2: is more solo and with those very difficult dlc stages
      U: that is the evolution of wii design of open/wide maps (with """multiplayer""" in mind).
      But are the themes of the worlds the same? Yes it is? from the Super Mario Bros. 1 are these themes, why change the "world theme" if it's just changing the level?

    Super Princess Peach was definitely one of my biggest guilty pleasures in the Mario series. The idea of having Peach as the main protagonist was nothing short of genius, and the gameplay mechanic of using her emotions was surprisingly fun. This game really deserved to get a sequel or at least some sort of acknowledgement in later games, as aside from the occasional mention in Smash Bros., it's largely been forgotten about. This game could've done for Peach what Yoshi's Island, Wario Land, Donkey Kong Country, and Luigi's Mansion did for Yoshi, Wario, DK, and Luigi respectively!

    Something I noticed when I came back to replay Super Princess Peach a couple of years ago is how badly it wants to be Super Mario World 3. The in-game character and enemy sprites feature stylistic details which take their cues from both the original Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, nearly all of the enemies and hazards are lifted from those two games (including some series unique enemies, like the Amazin' Flyin' Hammer Bros.), and similar props like the end-world ring are clearly derivative of Yoshi's Island or Super Mario World.

    I enjoyed this game (Especially along with the other Mario Princesses, Peach is my Waifu.) and I really do feel this game is underrated. I did grow up with New Super Mario Bros DS as a kid, and I didn’t know of this game. People complain about the mechanics and stuff which I personally never had a problem with, and like you I have fun with them. They never give credit to this game’s soundtrack. I loved the music.
    Can we also acknowledge that Peach causes Earthquakes when she’s using Rage? It’s obvious Peach is extremely powerful but we never get to see it because Nintendo rarely goes out of the mold of her getting kidnapped. I’ve seen haters of her saying they could take Peach on a fight and easily win. All I have to say is: Good luck with that you idiots.
    I’m also glad someone shares my hate for New Super Mario Bros 2. That game could’ve been way better than it is. It’s my least favorite and I feel very upset that this game is related to New Super Mario Bros DS and New Super Mario Bros Wii, the two better of Wii U/Wii U DX and 2. I could go full on rant about 2 and Wii U/Wii U DX.
    Getting 100% and Infinite Vibe in Settings is OP in this game, unlike infinite Gold Flower Houses which are useless due to Canon Levels already doing so!
    Don’t ever judge a book by it’s cover. New Super Mario Bros 2 looked awesome on the outside, but it was terrible compared to the previous games of the New Super Mario Bros. series, and Super Princess Peach looked too girly for some people and was overlooked, despite it being a great DS Game!

    I LOVED this game growing up, and played it constantly. It might not have been as challenging as the New Super Mario Bros series, but a game doesn't need to have a lot difficulty to be a good game, I don't think. The laid back gameplay made it an easy game to relax to. The world's aren't iconic in design, but boy are they pretty anyways! It has that similar happy feel that Kirby levels have. Over all, just adorable and a good time. Also the music slaps at times, and you'll find yourself humming the tunes to yourself.

    So glad to see you covering SPP :) Peach was my hero as a kid, and I was (and am lol) obsessed with this game. It still holds a lot of cherished memories for me. I will say that now as an adult, I'm a bit disappointed that they went with "extreme emotions controlled by the player" as their main mechanic, as (intentional or not) I feel it sort of leans into the "women are irrational and emotional" stereotype. I also agree with your criticism that the game doesn't develop Peach's character that much; we end up learning more about Perry the umbrella and his backstory than Peach lol. Would love to see her star in another game where this is handled better. (Would also love to see some of the other women in the series be featured in more non-spinoff games!! A Rosalina or Daisy game would be pretty fun.)

    I never got into the game because at the time I had a major aversion to being around "girly" stuff and as a shy kid, I didn't want to deal with embarrassment. But I'm an oddball too, one of my favorite cartoons growing up was Totally Spies, a cartoon about three high school girls as spies saving the world.
    I can say that I never really looked into this game all that much, it was marketed towards girls. But I can say the game looks quality, it screams creativity and charm, it's an experimental game that works. Sad Dry Bones are enemies that deserve the most sympathy, in my opinion. I'll also say I like the art style of the game too. And it's a game that makes me miss the more experimental and ambitious time where Nintendo would really go wild with their games. I might try it out, hope it's not being scalped.
    This game does deserve a sequel and I would love to see this experimental stuff make a comeback. A great video, enjoyed it and listening to your points. Can't wait to see your thoughts on Star Allies and I hope you review Forgotten Land, I'd love to hear a review from you.

    I think the importance of Tose here is understated. One of Tose's few in-house series is The Legend of Stafy (or Starfy as it was eventually localized). There's a lot of creative staff overlap between the Stafy series and Super Princess Peach. I'd argue that Super Princess Peach is closer to the Stafy series than Mario, similar to how Final Fantasy II on Famicom has more in common with SaGa than Final Fantasy.

So of course the advertising has always been geared more to The mail demographic. I do agree with your statement of how people would have looked at you or the general vibe they would have given you if you had requested this game to play when you were a kid because of The general perception of this game in the misogynistic gaming community.
