  • Mark, Jimmy and Erik argue the pros and cons of wearing a turkey vest vs simply taking a backpack afield for hunting turkeys this spring in 10 minutes. Maybe this will help you decide which you choose or maybe it will leave you in exactly the same undecided state by the end, but hey, it’s only 10 minutes! As long as you’re out chasing gobblers, is there really any wrong answer? What’s your preferred gear for turkey hunting? We’d love to hear about it in the comments on Instagram!

So glad yall started going longer wen needed.
Also we can tell yall hunt 90% Eastern or Rios. My merriam's this year was almost 8 miles round trip on foot. Had a 2k elevation gain and 2 drops.
Usually only walk about a mile Fer elk and deer.
Sometime yall come hit me up in colorado and we will show u turkey HUNTING instead of turkey WAITING.

I've gone back and forth on this - But there is a reason the vast majority of the best turkey hunters wear vests. It's just hard to beat. A minimalist vest or chest rig with call compartments has been the best solution for me. If you aren't a great caller and as a result don't carry much you could get by with a pack, but quick access to a variety of calls is so critical in those quick setups.

Vest all the way… tried nearly all of them like most guys and finally landed on the knight and hale RNG 300. It’s FREAKING awesome!!! Light and nimble where needed but holds what I need. It’s nearly the perfect Turkey vest!

The older you get the more you'll become a minimalist. A good turkey chair is more important than the vest.

Simple solution is to have a small backpack and small vest setup soits half of each and u put your priorities in the vest and the less important stuff in the pack

Used to use a vest, but turkey hunting in BlueRidge Mountains demands lot of water, snacks, and other gear. The Kuiu pack I have has a hip belt and holds all I need. The Kuiu attack pants has plenty of pockets as well.

I attempt to combine the best of both worlds by doing the following: daypack backpack, bino pouch, and dove vest. This way I have the accessibility up front in my bino pack and dove vest with the packability of a backpack.

That's a heck of a setup! We might just have to give that shot :)

Funny to see how important it is for you to end on time.

If you need a frame pack to turkey hunt you really need to step back and make an effort to down size your gear.

Too much trivial chatter, time wasted. Vortex, here's a thought. Have adult turkey hunters do the podcast and cut back on the wasted time.

Kids these days!I made a comment on the sighting in blog. Really cool idea, but tgey did not tell antbidy anythingI am not a beginner, but someone who is wouldnt learn shit. I like these guys, but adult supervision may make things better.
