CODIAC TRANSPO - New Fareboxes / Nouvelles boîtes de perception

As part of the ongoing effort to modernize the transit system in the tri-community, Codiac Transpo is rolling out new electronic fareboxes on their buses beginning the week of August 2, 2021. The fareboxes will be installed on an ongoing basis over the coming weeks permitting new passenger amenities and travel data collection to enhance future planning and passenger demand data. All fareboxes are expected to be installed by August 13, 2021.
The fareboxes will have the following features:
• Cash payments and coin and bill validator;
• Proximity (RFID) scanning for 10, 20, and 1-ride passes, including a passenger screen indicating the amount of rides remaining;
• QR Code scanner for monthly pass and transfer slip validation;
• Self-serve transfer slips printed directly from the farebox with time stamped expiration;

Dans le cadre de ses efforts permanents de modernisation du réseau de transport en commun des trois collectivités, Codiac Transpo installera de nouvelles boîtes de perception électroniques dans ses autobus à partir de la semaine du 2 août 2021. Ces boîtes seront installées en continu dans les prochaines semaines, ce qui permettra d’offrir de nouveaux services aux usagers et de réunir des données sur les déplacements afin d’améliorer la planification et les statistiques sur la demande des usagers. Tous les autobus du parc devraient être équipés de la nouvelle boîte de perception d’ici le 13 août 2021.
Ces boîtes seront dotées :
• d’une fonction permettant de traiter les paiements comptants et d’un valideur de pièces de monnaie et de billets;
• d’une fonction de numérisation de la proximité (par radiofréquences) pour les laissez-passer de 1 trajet et de 10 ou 20 trajets, dont un écran indiquant aux usagers le nombre de trajets qui reste dans les laissez-passer;
• d’un lecteur de code QR pour la validation des laissez-passer mensuels et des billets de correspondance;
• d’une fonction permettant d’imprimer directement, à partir de la boîte de perception, les billets de correspondance en libre-service indiquant la période de validité.

So, I've been avoiding the buses while covid regulations were a lot stricter.. but I still have a 20 ride punch pass (that's only been used 3 times) from just before covid hit.. can I still use that or be compensated if i can't?

Can we pay by credit card on the bus to buy a bus ticket?

Hi there - there is no option to tap to pay with a credit card or debit card at this time.

So the only time you can have a correspondance ticket is when you pay cash right ? If you have a 10 ride bus pass you actually loosing money

When being taught how to scan my transfer, I had asked if I should throw it out after scanning, and they said I could if I don't need it anymore, Does that mean they can be used more than once?

Hi there- they can be used again within 90 minutes. For instance, if someone needs to transfer onto more than two routes, they can use the same transfer. The slips are valid for 90 minutes after being issued (but cannot be used more than once within the same 10-minute time frame) in order to allow for transfers across the network.

Setback it slows the process because people with passes usually just show your pass then sit, now your have to scan it

Hi Shaun- thank you for the feedback. These fareboxes, through the scanning, will provide important data to Codiac Transpo to better plan future routes. Data such as most frequent bus stops, routes, transfer points, etc. are all helpful for route planning and will be available data through the scanning of cards.
