- I build a homemade 10 inch Disc Sander- or more accurately, I rebuild my 10 inch Disc Sander.
Version 1 was large and overcomplicated. In version 2, I simplify the design and make the sander into a benchtop model.
Benchtop tools are often expensive and it is much more fun and economical to build them yourself. You can also throw a motor that is WAY too powerful for the application in there for some added fun!

DISC SANDER GANG SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON
I really appreciate the creative aspect of these videos where you are making your own tools. There's always another tool you can buy but they get to be expensive, may not be conducive to your shop setup, etc. This way you've got loads of sanding power and it's purpose built for your needs!
Thank you so much! Building my own machines is one of my favorite things to do in the shop.
I love the editing. Those multi video scenes are legit awesome.
Thank you! Film Mattes for the win!
Very cool man, I appreciate how you take older tools, clean them and make them work perfectly. I'm hoping in the next video you explain how to replace the sandpaper on a disc sander - such a pain in the A!
Thank you! I changed the paper on this today- it wasn't too bad, at least not any worse than it was before lol. I caught it on video, I'll be sure to include it in part 2! lol
Thats an awesome build Wayne. I can't wait to see the finished product. Cool idea.
Thank you! I finished up the cover today and I am really happy with how it turned out- hoping to edit and publish the video for next week!
Nice. Definitely has some power to sand things. I always like grinding wheels that slowed down when you used them.
Thank you! It is really quite powerful. I would love to be able to vary its speed, so that it can be a little less aggressive that might be a future upgrade to it.
Cool looking sander Wayne !! Liike Jonathan I also can't wait to see the sand paper change
Thank you! I finished up the cover today and was sure to capture the paper change on video, I will make sure it makes it into part 2!
Nice job👍👊
Thank you so much!
Very nice! I’ve been wanting to build something similar. What was used for the disc? What kind of motor?
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I used an aluminum 10 inch sanding disc plate that mounts directly to a 5/8 arbor. They can be found pretty inexpensively on ebay. I believe the motor is just a 1800RPM farm-duty motor from harbor freight, but any motor with a 5/8 arbor would work. The only drawback of the sander so far is that there is no ability to adjust the speed without swapping the motor, but it has not been an huge issue so far.
