DIY - Making A Disc Sander Out of Scrap

  • Опубликовано: 24 мар 2017
  • This week, I build a disc sander. This past year, my dad taught me a lot of metalworking techniques. I think I used them all for this build. I still have to practice more with the MIG welder I bought last month though.
    I used mostly reclaimed materials. The motor, the switch, cable and aluminium are all upcycled materials or were laying in the shop for years. The motor is 380V 1.5 HP 1410rpm.
    Hope you like the video.

      @RedSmith  7 лет назад +1

      Auarhau Thank you. Yes a friend of mine has a big metal lathe, I'm gonna borrow it to turn the plate and balance it. Thanks for watching 😊

    • @brukernavnfettsjit
      @brukernavnfettsjit 7 лет назад +1

      Sweet. I was thinking just drill some holes where the heavy spots are to remove material quick and dirty. There are many videos out there on how to balance bandsaw wheels etc. Might be a backup plan if facing and turning on the lathe does not make it perfectly balanced. Going to watch more of your videos later, lots of cool stuff here!

    • @RedSmith
      @RedSmith  7 лет назад +1

      Auarhau your solution sounds quick and simple. Thanks, I will try it if the lathe thing gets tricky 😉

    Why does no one speak in RUclips videos anymore? I would have like to hear his thoughts on why he choose to do something oneway and not another. Especially since this is the best diy disc sander I’ve seen. I dug the techno, a bit different than the 3-4 songs you hear on everyone else’s channel.

    The one thing I don't like about this video is the music. Not that you had some, but would have loved to hear from you while you are making this device why you made it, what you are doing, the tools you are using. it should be instructional not a 5 minute music video, which this turned out to be. Not trolling you, but I would have enjoyed your project more if I had seen more detail.

      I understand your point of view, but I don't do voiceover and don't like to talk during my videos. I try to shoot everything in a way everyone can understand what I'm doing. Thanks for watching.

    You would be better off taking it apart and replacing the bearings on that motor instead of painting the outside

      +seasonedtoker If my father who has been a mechanic for 55 years says the motor is good like that, it is good like that.

      The Redsmith don't take it offensive, wasn't a rude comment, just a suggestion. It is just twice more the satisfaction painting that motor then. Replacing bearings is a common sense here, not a must, as they are easy to replace. Better do that now when you only have a couple of screws to undo than later down the road when the machine is complete. Just saying. Otherwise nice build, plenty of future ideas for me and others watching

      seasonedtoker I didn't take it as an offensive, sorry if I let you think that. You're totally right, better do what's necessary before the build. But we checked the motor off camera and it was all good to go, once the dirt was removed. Glad you got some ideas from the video and thanks a lot for watching!😊👍
