- #DragonBallZ had a strong start with the Raditz and Saiyan saga and the villain of the first movie, Garlic Jr, wasn't all bad...but why has he become a joke of the fandom? What if there was a way to redeem him and find some way to use in #DragonBallSuper and beyond? Today we discuss what if we fixed Garlic Jr and used him someway with Belmod and Universe 11? Give him and Garlic Sr, his father, a chance to be reborn?

Or maybe be from Aru Village where Goku first met Oolong? Or even be from Fire Mountain where the Ox King used to rule? That way you could bring back some Classic characters from the Original Dragon Ball into the Modern Era of Dragon Ball Super. Wouldn't that be just Awesome?

If you took out all of the side plots with the humans, the main story of Garlic Jr saga was actually one of the best in DB imo, especially when factoring in his backstory from the first Z movie.
It was the first time we got a taste of the Z warriors having to come up with a win on their own due to Goku's lack of involvement, and also gave us some nice foreshadowing for Gohan being capable of rising to the occasion and being the Earth's hero in the place of his dad - I miss that Gohan.
Glad I'm not the only one who isn't part of the 'Garlic Jr is bad' crowd.
@@henryhunter9643 Make that a third. I don't understand the hate for the Garlic Jr. saga other than it coming from the average "filler bad" crowd and people who bust a nut whenever a Saiyan is on-screen having to deal with an arc where Goku and Vegeta aren't required.

I just don't understand why people say the Garlic Jr saga was bad. I enjoyed the focus on Gohan, Krillin and Piccolo.
It is still possible to involve Garlic Jr. with Dende; if his father was indeed a candidate to be the guardian of earth, then he might have seen himself as next in line when Kami were to pass the torch. He might view Dende as a usurper of the throne that should be rightfully his. Dealing with him might also require Piccolo to call upon Kami in a more direct way...
This reminded me of Zant vs Midna incident in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Instead of the guardian of the Earth problem, it's about being a king or a queen of a kingdom.

Honestly, I like this whole idea better. GJ thinking he can take on an entire universe seems pretty ridiculous at the point the GJ Saga took place.

@@johnnygyro2295 Cooler re-train is plausible tbh it'd be cool to see him again, especially with how loved Frieza is in Super + recent games, and too yeah man never thought Broly would get a do-over, let alone one soooo good. Only time will tell
I liked this dude as he brought in a whole lot of Guardian lore and that made me happy as it showed that Earth's guardian had more flair than we had initially thought after the entrance of King Kai

Honestly i really want Janemba to be more developed. In the movie he was basically a more powerful Buu/Kid Buu. With his powers to be able to warp reality and what not, I feel he could have became better if put in a different situation. I always wondered what if it was Janemba that was sealed away instead of Buu. Just how much damage would he cause.
It'd be cool to make him the Buu equivalent of universe 6 and make some story out of that

I liked him just fine. The question you should be asking is "What if Garlic Jr was a *smart* character?"...he'd have won. take away the deadzone thing and you're left with an immortal villain. Which would actually be a cool thing in dragonball if it was handled correctly. Ya know, our heroes would actually have to think instead of just hitting things really hard. Hell, if nothing else they could have used fighting styles like judo that require almost no energy from the user to just stall out garlic until he got bored and left. Which i think would have been funny to watch. I mean, yes he's immortal and can theoretically keep fighting forever, but who's got that kind of patience? If you punch a brick wall and the only thing that happens is that you hurt your hand, it's time for a new strategy.
What about the Mafuba?

Like using it to trap Majin Buu again, or any other big bad of the series, though i guess that would have gotten old really fast.
If you can wish for immortality, can you wish for mortality? Feels like thats the way it would go. Though I like the idea of giving the side cast more time to shine better.

Funny enough, there was a what if in Supersonic Warriors 2, I think, where Piccolo used the Mafuba to imprison Buu, and then he put the container in the Time Chamber for extra security.
Although you have touched the other movie and underdeveloped villains before, I'm still waiting on a real focus video on Cooler. The big brother of the galactic emperor seems so interesting to me, considering that Cooler doesn't hold himself in Frieza's court, like most royalty story dynamics. There is so little we know bout Frieza's race, and Cooler could be our guide and insight. Frieza cannot be redeemed, but Cooler is a blank slate. So many possibilities.
Same. Cooler appearing in Super would give more Frieza more things to do asides shaking his fist at Goku and Vegeta. Two brothers struggling to conquer the universe would make things more interesting.
I actually really like the Garlic Jr. Saga. I have it on VHS, and I wore that tape out lol.
It's one of the few bits of Z that just gives you some unequivocal badass Piccolo, and that makes it worth on its own.

I LOVE the Garlic Jr saga, and think it's highly underrated. There was so much good stuff in there. Gohan really got to be a bad ass at moments, Piccolo and Krillin have some team development, we see the Giant Namek form again. sure the first half is weak as hell, and the whole thing is far from perfect, but I still love it.
You know Toei/Bandai don’t really like Garlic Jr when even in an official game like Dokkan Battle, that’s been around for over 5 years, has never once made any mention towards Garlic Jr

He isn’t the worst thing in the world there’s just more popular villains even just going by movie villains. His movie was ok but his anime filler arc kinda sucked like a lot of filler
Santoryu90 really I like most filler DBZ filler makes the most sense. It’s not Say the straw hats taking a detour to find a dragon it’s a villain from a movie or Goku in other world.
Mentioning Pilaf now has me wondering, What If Pilaf were less of a gag and instead was an effective, ongoing villain, not always a direct Big Bad of Sagas, but more of a mastermind guiding events. sort of like how he was responsible for releasing King Piccolo, kicking off the arc.

Mitch Fletcher Pretty much. Pilaf taking his goal of ruling the world more seriously and becomes a more long term narrative in the background of several sagas as he tries to outwit the Z fighters increasingly ridiculous brawn.
One could even imagine Pilaf eventually creating an uneasy alliance with them once learning of the existence of Freeza’s empire and how woefully inadequate Earth would be at the time to stand against its full might.
Ngl Deadzone was one of my favorite DBZ movies. I think it was the perfect way to bridge DB and DBZ.

I also would like to know more about Kami's back story and the previous guardian before him...it is funny that he takes orders from King Kai since a younger fused Kami would be so much stronger. It's amazing how strong namekian fusion is...that if they defuse they are magnitudes weaker then if they remained together
What If Goku Was Raised By Cooler?
Maybe I'm just odd, but I actually liked the Garlic JR. saga. It was one of the few, and I mean FEW, arcs that didn't involve Goku coming in to save the day and Vegeta only making cameo appearances. Yeah it wasn't perfect, but I still liked it overall in fact I'll still break out the old VHS tape and watch it every once in a while! Your ideas are interesting though and might make a fun series, heck maybe fix it where Garlic comes back and takes on the Z warriors' kids, that might be fun!

Dende doesn't seem to do much, and giving him someone who he is an enemy to would be interesting and we could get some character development for dende out of it.

So, it took me reading the title 3 times and watching the full vid to realise that this wasnt a what if garlic jr turned good, still a good vid and pretty good idea of how to give the tiny blue/green man his time to shine before being thwarted

@@chriswentz5197 well that's an amazing idea and in that way the story about uub and bamenaj training with goku can be a spin-off series with another spin-off which will be about vegeta and cabba's adventures in universe 6 and both will be amazing and for the first time goku and vegeta can be a side part training their respective pupils and helping them in their adventures by taking little bit of break from main series and then returning with their pupils to fight more enemies. MARVELOUS

I could see Garlic jr being put against Dende if he was vying for the position of Earth's Guardian and asked Dende for "instruction" with plans to betray him at a later point.
When I was a kid I really liked the Garlic Jr Saga! Sure I thought Garlic Jr himself was a creepy little gremlin ... and his cronies were called "The Spice Boys" for Toriyama's Sake ... the whole "Piccolo pretending to be a red-eyed zombie" really creeped me out and I still enjoy it now! 😅😅😅
This would be an amazing movie, like Broly where it’s a canon movie reviving an old enemy from Z in the new Super line light.

Garlic jr. is one of my favorite DBZ villains, and I loved both Deadzone and the Garlic Jr Saga. It would have been nice if they were consistent with canon, and I could have done without Krillin's girlfriend, but otherwise I don't see the problem with either story.
As someone who's obsessed over this idea, I can say Buff Jr is almost identical to GoD Toppo

Nice job. Garlic was one of the more forgettable villains, but you gave him a story that made him feel relevant.
I like the idea of Garlic Jr being a former candidate for god of destruction it would give a lot of depth to universe 11.
Neither one the arc or the movie is great but they are both alright. I mean people forget all of the krillen stuff that happens in the arc as well as really neat Gohan and Piccolo stuff. The arc checks a bunch of boxes. No Goku to save the day even side characters had a role. It wasn’t amazing but the arc was fun.
Eventually Masako will do a video on everyone being a good guy.

When you are in lockdown for five months, and run out of material, and have to dig deeper.. until you find....Garlic..... junior.
I would like Super to adapt the Garlic Jr arc model for an entire arc. Have Goku and Vegeta train with Beerus or something so that the side characters actually get to fight a big bad and not just get 3 pages of a chapter to do "something cool". Plus, the enemy could be more like Abocado...would've been a threat but now can be handled by Piccolo and Gohan or Androids, etc. I'd like to see one of them get a win on a big bad, and not have dieties meddle. Let Krilin or Gohan win and gain confidence as a fighter again. Gohan had Cell, but he has fallen from grace since then. Krillin and Piccolo never beat the big bad, so that could be good character growth, too. Then bring Goku and Vegeta into the next arc with new abilities that feels earned, as it took a whole arc to achieve. I think it would please the audience and make new powers for Goku and Vegeta feel earned.
Everyone stuck on the debate of whether Garlic Junior is good or bad and totally ignoring the absolutely mindblowing concept thought out by Masako .... Belmod Jiren and Toppo all used in such a creative way .... also properly canonized Garlic junior as an actual threat ... Masako you are awesome 🙉🙉

Indeed, the Garlic Jr Arc was awesome with Gohan’s badass moments!
I don't care what people say I like Garlic Jr, my earliest memory of Dragon Ball is Gohan fighting his buffed form and actually defeating him without the help of Goku. 20 years later, I still love seeing that, the days when Gohan was being set up as the new star.

I'd have to watch it again but I remember liking the Garlic Jr saga. There was no Goku to swoop in and Piccolo was weakened, meaning the forever underdogs of Krillen and Gohan had to save the day.

What If You, Havelock and SophieB Powerhouse thought up an idea on how to Fix Fake Namek and somehow work it into Dragon Ball Super? In my mind, you could have Planet Namek and Fake Namek Mirror Kami and King Piccolo's situation. That both Planets used to be one until it split in two along with its inhabitants causing the two to be mirrored opposites of each other. You could also have Fake Namek to have its own set of Dragon Balls, like the the Black Star Balls. Giving the inhabitants a reason not to use them unless it was absolutely necessary to do so. But that's just my personal take on the subject, What do you think. How would you guys Fix Fake Namek?

dang it masako for some reason when i read the title it initially registered in my brain as 'what if garlic jr turned good' till i watched the video and realized it was actually what if we retconned garlic jr.
Garlic Jr. works best with smaller power scales. It’s hard to make his demonic style work when it boils down to “big evil guy blows stuff up” like almost every other Z and beyond villain.
Honestly, I loved Garlic Jr.
I liked the Garlic Jr saga because we see character development and his the use of his cunning/strategic mind for Piccolo. Plus we also see development between Piccolo and Kami to where when the Cell saga starts it's not unbelievable that Kami is okay with fusing with Piccolo.
I always wondered as a kid "why does Garlic Jr look like a Namekian?"
One of the only characters in Dragon Ball to gain immortality... and he puts it to waste.

I often think about what would have happened if Vegeta had been on Earth when this happened or returned to Earth in the middle of the Arc. God that would have been sweet.
I liked Garlic Jr. as a whole, but that movie had much more of a Dragon Ball feel than Dragon Ball Z. Having the rivalry of Kami and Garlic Sr. competing for the position of Guardian of Earth was awesome and helps explain why Kami and the previous Guardian couldn't interfere with King Piccolo's reign over the Earth's surface.
These ideas are in the sort of ''too good to be true or ever really happen'' category IMHO.

Honestly? I think Garlic Sr. would have made a perfect TV special. in the same vein as "Bardock, the Father of Goku." It could have been a movie about Mutaito, Shen, Roshi, and Kami taking down a demon alliance between Garlic Sr, Piccolo Daimao, the Demon Clan, and many other demons. With a young Dabura and Garlic Jr escaping the planet.
I also thought the Saga wasn't a bad one... I just really liked the idea of a saga without Goku there to bail out his friends. Some actual opportunity to show how, despite NOT being Super Saiyans, Piccolo and crew were still quite capable on their own if push came to shove. Something we really wouldn't get shown much until the lead-up to the Universe Survival Tournament.

Piccolo really freaked me out and traumatized me in episode 111 of Garlic Junior saga.

I saw the saga before the movie. I honestly loved the saga, Garlic Jr. is one of my favorite villians. I always felt his saga was more than just filler for the realization it gave Gohan. That his father and Piccolo wouldn't always be there to save him, sometimes he needed to be the one doing the saving.
Without seeing the thumbnail, I read it as “What if Don Jr didn’t suck?

I know I'm weird in liking the Garlic Jr. Arc, but I thought it was nice that we got to see Piccolo kick some ass. Ya the pacing wasn't great and they dwelled on the Black Water Mist for too long, but the idea was solid and Garlic was actually kinda threatening.
