    I have a really funny story relating to similar MAPs ideas. Me and other host made a call for Wings of Fire to the song Two Birds by Regina Specktor, focusing on the same two characters, with similar art direction, and we posted them 1 WEEK apart from each other. Oh and they were both our first MAPs. We worked everything out as they're different projects focusing on different themes and story elements, and they're both now finished! I just think it's funny that there are so many similarities despite being pure coincidence.

      I remember a couple of WoF wikians and I got together to try to make a Darkstalker We Dont Talk About Bruno, with me naturally gravitating to being the lead co-host (I usually take the leader role in any group project I join, even if I can’t handle it, and it’s been like that since elementary school). Anyways, i spent roughly a week or two making a colored storyboard for the MAP. I would spend multiple hours each day working on it.
      People were rushing me and asking why I wasn’t done already because it turns out there were already two maps with the same, or near exact same, plot and characters to the same song being made, as well as someone uploaded an ‘animation meme’ (bro it was just one picture) to the song we don’t talk about Bruno about Darkstalker. THAT video got over 10k views I believe.
      I was rushing and wanted to let people know that yes, I was working on it, so I uploaded a WIP storyboard.
      You wanna know what happened?
      I got 700 views until youtube deleted my video for it having the song we don’t talk about Bruno.
      I’m sorry, but EXCUSE ME RUclips WHAT what about all of those OTHER animations? Heh it’s been almost a year now and I’m still sour about it-
      Anyways when that happened I lost the video. Annnnnndd that’s why I just enter maps, and not host them.

    I have definitely had at least one mildly antagonistic host...
    This was a beginner's friendly MAP, but it was more of a AMV than regular animation, and I didn't really (and still don't) know how to do smooth slides and transitions in my program of choice, and mine were clearly hand tweaned. The host didn't care for it and asked me to change it, and I asked if they knew how to do it either in my program or another free program, and they just straight up never answered me.
    Eventually I literally took the art to Windows Movie Maker, put it in one of those awful stock slide animations, took THAT video and cut it down to the part I needed and spliced it into the animation as if it were all made in the same program.
    The MAP never got posted, and I believe a few others were having similar issues, and I know a couple people dropped out AFTER having finished their parts because the quality wasn't good or they didn't know how to do what was being asked of them.
    ----
    So MY addition to the Do's and Don'ts:
    If you're going to host a beginner-friendly MAP -
    DO make sure the participants you choose are capable of what you're planning on asking them, or if you can't be too picky about participants,
    DON'T be surprised/upset if the parts are not perfect. It's beginner-friendly. Please, not everyone knows everything yet. Beginner-friendly isn't just a term to throw in there so you get more applicants.

    • @Northflowo
      @Northflowo  Год назад +48

      In a situation like that, if I was the host then I would ask for the participant to send the assets and then do the editing myself, if it really needed to be changed.

    @Angie_Ashf3rn Год назад +303

    Piece of advice: Ask your participants to add some extra frames at the beginning and end of the parts, just in case they/you cut their audio wrong! Crop it to make the audio flow.
    (Also, don’t upload the parts into ur editing software with the audio. Add the high quality audio over it and crop the parts to match the flow!)

    You forgot to add one of the most important things or maybe the most important thing of hosting a map, if you don't have passion for it, it can fall or even worse, it can be really stressful doing something you don't like. It can feel like a burden on you or even in the end the results of the map may look awful. For experience, I made a map of SpongeBob SquarePants (luckily I managed to make it really good) but just because I thought it will be easy and cool do it, I wanted to do it because others did it and I wanted to have one too and I wanted to do it for views and compliments, And in the end, I got to the point where I feel like it's a burden on me and I shouldn't give it up because a lot of people spent months participating in my map and in the end after a lot of pain, I finished it. But did I enjoy the process? No. So remember, only if you have a desire to see the final result in its entirety, if you know you will enjoy the process and you know it will be difficult but fun, go for it. Don't do it just for views or to impress someone. Do it for a purpose strong enough that you know you can stand it without feeling bad about it. Choose a map that you know you are willing to give everything for. If you chose a map that you end up not wanting to do because you have no real passion for it, it will just be a waste of time for you to work on it.

    My first MAP was a MASSIVE mistake...
    Here are some of the mistakes I found I made that I changed in my newest one:
    I only posted on RUclips instead of RUclips, Facebook, AND Instagram
    I didn't add tags
    I didn't set ANY rules
    I didn't set a script
    I didn't post character designs
    I built it off of impulse instead of wanting to do it
    In my newer MAP, I:
    Shared it on Facebook as well as RUclips
    I added plenty of tags
    I set rules
    I set a script (pretty detailed to ensure there's no confusion)
    I posted character designs
    I WANTED to do it
    I currently have 7/30 parts filled in under a month! Pretty happy for my first (successful) MAP

    PLEASE, I wish more people regarded this! I've joined a bundle of MAP's when I was younger, and through doing so *THREE out of FOUR* projects were ghosted. It was really unfair to the artists and myself who've joined, and despite working so hard on our parts we've had to end up dealing with the Host's abandonment, or cancelling it all together.
    It can be a very hard thing, and it can be stressful dealing with submissions and drawbacks, but with that being said, DON'T BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW.
    Please think ahead and regard that this is a project that multiple people are working hard on, regardless of how many submissions there maybe. Some of these Host's did put out these works more obscurely, which is why they ended up being left off. As a past MAP attendee, the one thing that always dooms a MAP is impulsiveness and lack of communication.
    This was long, but I can't stress enough how stressful it was having it be a reoccuring thing. I heavily appreciate the animations that I've made, but I'd just wish better for the works it was hosted by.

    Something that the MAP hostess did that pulled a project I was on was back up and do a recall! A successful MAP that I was in didn't have too many people submitting when it initially came out, but the Host was really kind and openly aware about this! Even past 2 years, they Re-announced the project to a bigger audience, and brought more people in then it did before! Next thing you know it saved the project, and it was such an exciting thing to see come together! :D
    Another thing that I saw from another RUclipsr was by Ms1Sharklee, where they didn't have enough people joining in so they edited and spliced parts together in fill in space that couldn't make it! It was super creative, and something I think more people should pick up on when saving a project!
    Please, again! I know I've said a lot but I'm just really compassionate about this stuff-

    i don’t animate anymore but i used to animate around 4 years ago, i joined a MAP which seemed pretty amateur but at the time, i liked the song and my part so i took a spot near the very end. There were about like 30 spots which is really hopeful in hindsight. My part didn’t take me too long if i remember correctly and there were already around 10 people in the MAP when i started. I sent in my part and by that time there were only a few other people who were finished and there were still some open spots. I remember checking it around a year after i sent in the video and it still wasn’t finished, still with open spots, i left a comment looking for a follow up but i don’t know if anyone responded. Oh boy, I made an obscure concept for a MAP and I thought it wouldn't work out for a little while even though it was far from my first hosted MAP. It's a deity OC MAP, with a lax color palette. Tbh the saving grace was Draikinator joining the MAP and tons of people coming when they posted their part. Anyways, it was purely down to luck that that MAP worked out, I wouldn't recommed trying it if you have less than like 1k subs, which is my situation. Go for something more general but still creative!

      Out of curiosity, where would a fakemon map lie on the obscurity scale? I figured that it wouldn’t be too bad since pokemon is a massive franchise and the fakemon segment of the fanbase has a thriving community of artists, but I’ve really been struggling to find participants.

    • @leofrun
      @leofrun Год назад

      @@scootermcpeanuts6699 i would say it's pretty obscure since most people who know pokemon (aka the general artists) know only the normal ones, but if i were you, i'd join pokemon discord servers that have fakemon channels and see if they have promo channels. at least that would be a way i would use to promote it, but use whichever social media or chatroom you're most famous on or have the most experience with! reddit, amino, etc all work out. amino would be especially helpful, because they definitely have chatrooms or whatever based specifically on fakemon. i checked your channel, though, and i think you're doing well for less than 400 subscribers with an "obscure" map concept. good luck on your endeavors!! map-making can be hard but it pays off especially if it's something your passionate about, even if it takes months to fill up (as it was with my deity oc map lol).

    first saw this remake when it came out and didnt think much of it. when i saw this video again in late 2023 in i took the advice to heart, ditched the youtube comment section, and speedran all the assets for the call so i could finally make my dream come true. the call itself is still new and little progress compared to the rest of the map has been made, but the pace the participants are going at are motivating me to continue pushing and are givig me high hopes for the project. theyre all very nice and they have been the best people ive worked with so far. just wanted to say that about them

This time after WANTING to make it and working on it for a few months with friends, I finally released a map I actually care about, I made sure to set all the rules, a server, colour palettes, everything.
    I’m happy with how it’s coming along so far, the only issue it the sheer amount of parts the map has in general (it’s an 8 minute long song so there’s 58 parts total) and with my following it might take a while to get people to join, but other than that, I’m glad I could learn and grow as a map host and I hope I can improve more in the future!

What was weird though was that I didn't find out I was removed until I had an "oh crap" moment randomly one day, went and looked at the MAP call, and found out that I had been removed without any kind of notice. Like they didn't even reply to my application comment saying I was removed or anything, which I did check just to see if i missed a notif. So that wasn't great, even if it was understandable. x'D (Especially since half of the parts were still open when I was removed; it wasn't a super popular call and nobody else had taken my part by the time I checked. Again still my fault for not making the deadline and forgetting to communicate as well, but it was still weird.) So yeah don't ghost people, hosts *or* joiners!! xD

      @@Zeruk It's not weird that they kicked me. It's weird that I had to find that out myself after the fact when there wasn't even a "you've been dropped for missing the deadline" note anywhere. No check in whatsoever. They aren't obligated to say "hay are you still there or dropping??" and see if I reply within a day or two before kicking me (which they didn't do either), it's still my responsibility to keep track of deadlines, but it would be nice of them not to go completely radio silent or just assume that their participants wouldn't respond if they reached out to check in before or at the deadline. It's definitely not Unusual for hosts and participants to just Not talk to each other, but it still doesn't feel great for the host or participants.
      There's a tip in this video that talking to your participants (and I'm sure there's a tip in the other video about how participants should communicate with their hosts) is a good thing, and this kind of thing is why. Both sides of the equation are human, and while it doesn't make anyone a Bad host if they don't give a million reminders, if nobody ever talks to anyone ever then it makes for some pretty robotic transactions during something that's supposed to be fun and artistic lmao
      There's definitely more contact between hosts and joiners these days than there used to be, though, and that's a good thing.

    • @CrimsonCoyoteArt
      @CrimsonCoyoteArt Год назад +12

      I’ve edited three maps together (but haven’t posted them yet). I put the original map call into the software, then overlay all the parts on top of the call video. To make sure all the parts are synced up, I keep the sound on for both the parts and the base audio. If it has an echo, it’s not synced right. For any parts that are too long or too short, ask your participants what they would like to do about it. Typically you can cut, add, and slow down/speed up parts to make them fit- BUT CHECK WITH THE PARTICIPANT FIRST! In these situations, it helps to have an exact time stamp of how long the part should be.
      I mute all the audio, then add the original audio file that I used for the map call over top of it to keep everything crisp and uniform.Then you can add watermarks and any finishing touches! You can also add in your ending sequence (if you have one) and you’re good to go.
      PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR EDITING SOFTWARE BEFORE PUTTING YOUR MAP TOGETHER . I’ve found it helps SO much!! I use CapCut and it works great, it’s free, and doesn’t have any watermarks.

      1. You can, although it's usually good to be an animator yourself so you'll be able to take the animator experience into account while planning, so that you'll be able to attract participants easier AND so that you can make parts for the project too. I've seen non-animators successfully host maps before but they've usually been internet famous to begin with
      2. Hmm. Use a base maybe? Although the character designs for my earlier maps were definitely pretty unappealing, artistically - that doesn't matter as long as the participants can still read them
