i have 120 subs with no videos I don’t watch their videos, but I checked out their channel. Their art seems pretty good. I don’t see any art on your channel.
I think you need a small addition to the don'ts, and this is coming from someone who is almost one step away from finally finishing my MAP I'm hosting: *Don't throw a hissy fit and go on a dislike spree if you find that someone has either replaced you with a newer participant, or you were kicked because you couldn't make it past the deadline.* Seriously, if you do exactly that, it'll just make the MAP host less likely to pick you in future MAPs they happen to plan. I remember having to kick someone out of my other MAP because within the four weeks they were given, they didn't respond to me once and never gave me any progress, and the next thing you know I see all my videos getting a dislike because of this. I sorta feel like it falls in the "don't whine" category, but you get my drift.

with the "don't cut contact with host" one, that's especially frustrating for small maps because we literally don't have anyone to replace these people, now with all my maps i make the codeword a way of contacting them outside of youtube. given i mostly make a discord group as a way of contacting them, i'll have them say "discord!" if they joined the discord. have in the past had a few people not even read that part of the rules and just say discord thinking that was the codeword and ended up with someone that didn't read the rules, and i wasn't able to contact... read the rules and keep in contact with the host people, it's not that hard
I’m currently making a passion project of a scripted Warriors MAP and I thought of a clever way to get rid of those who don’t read anything. I have it listed that I will not acknowledge any comment on my MAP call, rather, I have set up a Google forms quiz for those to gather up info such as contact links and animation examples. I’m excited to try it out cause I have not seen anyone else do it before. ^^
@@UniEvolute it tends to belittle smaller animators for the sake of popularity and very few offer genuine criticism and even then its best to submit your thing *to* a comp instead of just ending up in one. a lot of the animators work pretty hard on their stuff regardless of how bad it looks and they get really sad when put into those compilations. i used to like them but i realized that the people featured didnt like it then i stopped liking them. thats basically how it went for me
Tip: Don't join a MAP if you don't intend to get it done by the due date. I had someone who basically either ignored me and/or refused to send me WIP's for a two week MAP and didn't even have half of it done by the official due date, and when I kicked them for that reason they complained, saying something along the lines of "I don't know why you need the part so soon when all of the parts in the MAP haven't even been filled." The due date was written in the rules, I asked for WIP's several times. I gave them all of the chances in the world, even gave them an opportunity for an extension, but they basically came back and said "well I MIGHT be able to get it done [a week and a half from today]"
How do you deal with people who DID NOT get a part,BUT DID THE PART ANYWAYS? Like, you saw their comment, you didn't accept them but they went ahead and animate the part they wanted even though you denied their request to be in the MAP?
@@Skipsjack Oh they do, and it sucks. Sometimes the part could be amazing but they didnt get it so you kind of awkwardly shuffle a bit. Just as North said, its best to ignore it.
Going on a rampage may decrease your likeliness of getting into MAPs with different people Because a lot of MAP creators seem to talk to each other, they could be talking to each other, and the host may start ranting about you to another creator. Then you spread.
Shouldn't automatically believe what another says though, sometimes the host could have been the instigator/starter, some could make up lies , misinterpert things, or take it way outta proportion. But you do have a good point. It's something which needs to be thought of, regardless. Me I only judge what I have self witnessed - because I know how people can be.
Also, *DON'T* start working on a MAP part until the part has been given to you by the host. This seems obvious, but I've actually had this problem in previous MAPs I've hosted. This one person asked for a part on one of my MAPs, but I didn't let them join because they had no examples. A few days later, they message me the link to the FINISHED MAP part they did even though I never gave that part to them. Don't do this. It's annoying.
Tuna Ramen oh my god that is just so awkard like "dude you didnt get the part" and they already have a finished a hole animation XD sorry you had to experience that
I have a don't for MAP hosts: Don't cancel because nobody joined the discord server. You should give them the valid link. Not get angry cause they didn't join.
Ohh my god invalid discord links make me want to rip my goddamn hair out. I’ve been reading through maps I want to join, because I do want more experience and the discord links are ALL INVALID. I’m new to discord but Jesus, update the link.
good tips!! i eventually will get examples on my channel to start doin this stuff lol mostly just wanted to comment how much i love your lil sprites tho! super clean and cute and expressive!
Don't: complain about there being "no good MAPs available" because that is false, there are literally thousands of open MAPs for literally any style, genre, and fandom. seriously just search "(insert fandom/style/genre)OPEN MAP" and you'll find what you're looking for almost instantly. even if it's someone you've never heard of, even if it's hosted by a new member and isn't popular, they deserve a chance to get their MAPs done too :)

This was really helpful! I’ve recently started joining a few maps and I’m going to (try) and remember the rules in this! Have a good day/night Also I love your art-
I ALWAYS re--read the rules before and AS I go along, so I don't screw up! I truly do wanna respect their guidelines. Sometimes people talk in broken English and confusing forms for me though so I admit there's been times where I've oofed, and they let me know , I fix it. :)!
It’s based on it. If it’s a AMV map and they have a good art style BUT are seriously terrible at animation, probably the one with the bad art style. But if the art style is literally sticks then probably the animation. It there both terrible then just say “ sry you didn’t get the map part” ( not trying to sound rude just giving a example)

I just started my great adventure of animation and drawing, I really hope some day I get to be as good as the animators I look up too. Also thanks for all the info I'll probably watch this over a million times before i join a map..
i fricking hate thatThe word map now basically means pedophile due to twitter's bullcrap its still an amazing video though great work on it idk if you should change the video title to: Do's and Don'ts of joining MAPs (multiple animator project) to maybe not cause misconception with people that dont know the context of MAPs in animation since i know it will happen
You can for example take the part yourself which is often the easiest way to go on about it, you can make a community post announcing the fact or just wait for someone to notice and ask for the part.
@Juweli :3 one thing I have done to get parts full is to ask smaller youtubers if they would like to join, because if you find someone with like 11 subs they are very excited that you noticed them and will want to be included.
For cutting your own part, usually I would download an mp4 of the map call, then I would cut down the video to only my part. I would insert the clip into my software and unattach the audio and video, delete the video and there. And for the downloading music, sometimes people would either download the song ( off of ITunes (smthn like that)) an mp3 converter or just plainly getting another device and play the song while recording it on the device that they plan to use to make the map call with. Hope this helped!
I use a video recorder, record my part, crop it so the audio is perfect, export it, and use an editing software to put the audio in sync with the video
1:58 ohhh, that’s happened to me before. I realized it wasn’t beginner friendly and didn’t allow watermarks right after getting accepted, that was embarrassing..
The thing I get really stressed about when I join a map is that I don't draw,I us clay animation so I kind of get so nervous to if anyone will ever let me in there map. So I just like end up saying this with out being rude... "Hey I would like part 100000 ( it's not a part :T) Code word: Don't kill me. And I do clay animation,so is that okey?" i got to say to how many people don't let me in. like I ask to join maps so many times but on like 1 map will let me in. Which what kind of gets me. Mad.
Usually map hosts are looking to have a consistent style/look throughout their map, and that means everyone is using the same medium. You can't really get upset with map hosts that design their maps/designs/mood boards/etc around digital art not wanting a new medium for one part that would look really out of place. If you really want to see more maps angled towards clay animation, host them and design them for clay animation!
Personally, I think unique styles are one of the main appeals of maps. It's boring if every style is the same, it's far more interesting to see a bunch of different artists and animation.
Cookie i mean, yeah but there are certain map hosts that *want* the parts to actually fit together. It’s very different, but if you have a very unique style it’s probably easiest to ask on an anything map on which the rules mostly aren’t thaat strict and the host actually wants some different stuff
had a pretty sad experience with joining a map , i got told i got in then the host chose someone else. i totally finished in the deadline with still days left and i told them i finished it but no responce. i decided maybe they didnt see it so left it. i came back to see they replaced me without even telling me. wtf. it was beginner friendly by the way. my map part was shit but if your gonna kick me because someone elses was better just tell me.
I have this shit happen to me in other things (not maps) and it's really infuriating. Don't say something's creative free and beginner friendly and do what ever u want - then give a part to someone who finishes ontime - and suddenly replace without reason or warning on a whim (simply cuz a friend wanted in or "someone better" came a long.) without telling / asking them. I get the contact issue if that's a thing but many don't even try to make contact with you, how can they expect you to come to them if they won't come to you and vice versa? thing is sometimes people just forget, don't think of it, or are so focused on actually doing the work in what little open time windows they have (many have school and jobs) to go back and comment all the time (this is why I prefer contact through discord now. and bugs me when people have it and just choose to ignore - because youtube is BAD about telling me I got replies. and I am one of those workaholics) lol
Same here; I can't animate at all. I want to create little PMVs or map-like things for my own characters for myself. I've been watching a lot of the minimal-animation maps to get ideas because my tools consist of a potato laptop and Windows Movie Maker. Still enjoy reading through map scripts and stuff when they're posted and following the map's progress. Sometimes the songs used in maps give me ideas for scenes for my own characters and story

Thank you so much for this. This really helps. I want to join a MAP eventually and I‘m glad you’re sharing things that we should and shouldn’t do so I can try not to be a nuisance. 💛
I recommend already having animations on your channel, this helps if you don’t have full screen, can only do pmvs and not animations, etc. it would be awkward if the person hosting the map let somebody in who didn’t have the equipment or skills to make a map part.
Things I'll say when someone gets the part I wanted: I really wanted this part but you pulled it off better than I ever could, nice job :D Nice part! Wow your so good! You deserve this part!
Thank you for these tips! I've really been wanting to improve my animation and editing skills so that I can post them and join MAPs eventually. I'll definitely keep these tips in mind for the future.
Vixaravia Theres a lot where the rule isn’t there and sometimes, I think it just means channel watermarks, as in maybe a text or logo to avoid stealing. Also, for app watermarks, you can try cropping videos! This works for me. Often before making your video you can use a black border or any border really, preferably of the same resolution (make sure the entire app watermark in that border) and then make your part, keeping in mind the black border! Once you export then make sure to crop it and tada! It has no watermark!
Thanks for making this video!! I’ve been wanting to join a map for a while, i learned a lot from this. I’ll start trying to animate more and improve my style... :p
Hey, I’ve been thinking about starting animation, and was wondering how to cut the music needed for MAP parts. Do you have to download the music yourself or is there another way?
I normally do animations/pmvs on my phone so when I get a part I screen record the part I got. Clip/Fix it so that the music is correct for the part then I make it into a file. So then you can usually insert it into any animation program that allows music.
Tysm fpr this video! I watched your video on how to host a map, and you said that i should probably join some maps before hosting one for experience! This really helps :)

Oh my stars, thank you for posting this! I always hope I don't sound like I'm not taking it seriously, or taking it too formally like a job interview for funeral host or something, and this helps so much!
I’ve had a few times where I legitimately read through the entire script and only really wanted some of the firsts parts (it was like part 2, 3, or 4) and I feel like the person didn’t believe that I actually read all the way through when the parts at the beginning where the only ones that interested me or I felt like I would be able to do. I also have times where I get salty about not getting to a map but I never comment about it. Normally, when I’m upset about it I normally just think that maybe they didn’t see my comment since I’m a very small channel and that many other people joined so they just didn’t notice me. It normally makes me feel better to believe that they just didn’t notice me than them noticing me and felt like I wasn’t good enough. Also, also, I have had times where I had to look through the comments for the Codeword because I read the rules and script and noticed that there was a codeword but whenever I reread the rules I was never able to notice it. I normally try not to look through the comments for one unless I know that there is one and I just couldn’t find it because I’m blind and don’t notice things literally in front of my face. (I walk into doors a lot)
Untrue, actually. (Or I don't know what the other hosts are doing but I feel it might be the same.) I have some criteria outside of skill when picking participants (I consider people who have previously joined my maps more reliable) but popularity is never one. That being said, oftentimes the reason people are popular is because their animation is really good. So, they get a part.
I've only hosted 2 maps but I can say popularity isn't a big ticket thing? In general more popular artists have been animating longer, and meet the criteria better than someone with 1 sketched animation. (Also understand how to get their part in on time) so that's why they may get picked more, but as long as the person has roughly the skills needed for for part and looks like they'll be able to stay in contact/finish their part that's gonna be who I'll accept
Yeah popularity seems like a factor with most animators. You decline their fanbase comes after you bein like "Omgg?!? Why didn't you accept ________ is a god!!! You should be honored to accept them!1"
Question: I've been wanting to improve my animation for a long time but I can't find a beginner animating app on computer. I want one dats free cause I'm broke and I want to improve so I can join maps.

Thank you so much for a good advices I want to be a good at animating but I dont know any good programs to editing ;v Pls help meh Edit; oof i forgot about adding: FREE programs*
I used Windows Movie Maker for like a year an a half It takes a little more effort to edit your stuff together using it and there are some things you can't do with it, but it has no ads on it, is mostly simple to use and you won't get a virus from it (as you will from some too good to be true free editing programs... This is eeally good advice! You should make a video about the Do's and Don't's of hosting a MAP. I feel like that would be equally helpful to people who want to try hosting
Hey. I just wanted to say, I like your videos. You're an awesome person helping others be awesome too. I don't participate in maps often, and I've never done on here on RUclips, but I, probably, have the art/animation skills to be in a few, and the confidence. Every time I post a new animation meme on my channel, I am really proud of the hours I've spent doing these little animation memes that look decent, and are enjoyed by other people. Oh yeah, did I mention, YOU'RE AN AWESOME RUclipsR!!! Just all caps for it to really stand out, lol.
Hey North, got questions regarding animation. 1. Since a lot of younger animators with potential don't have money to afford fancy programs and what not, if they use for say, something like Flipnote to animate, would you consider them? I use Flipnote for an idea on what frames to draw for my animation, and then I draw the frames on a separate program and put them together. 2. The frames are usually the easiest part for me, but when it comes to syncing and editing the frames, especially with music and sound, it's like a maze for me. So, how's you go around doing that?
1. I don't have any experience with Flipnote, I have tried some free animation programs such as Pencil and FlipaClip but none of them ever seemed right for me. When it comes to animating there isn't really a single way to go about it. I have been drawing my frames in a drawing program and editing them together in an editing program but other things I've seen people do include making the animation in FlipaClip and then creating the lineart and the rest on top of the sketch in a different program using a mouse. With my MAPs I don't mind what program people use as long as there aren't any obnoxious program watermarks on all of their animation. 2. I usually first sketch the general idea of the part and edit that together with the music before even starting to work on any of the lineart or inbetweens. This helps me estimate how many frames I will need to draw for the animation to look nice. This is mostly just the matter of practice with what to do, what frame rate to use, how to make the movement look natural with extreme frames or more inbetweens in one end of the motion and whatnot.
Question: Do you like having 3D animations in ur maps? Alsooo I'm waiting for enough money to buy a drawing tablet, so I can join ur maps. I've been drawing for years, but I don't have any way to animate xD
This has really helped! I don’t join maps on yt because I’m not satisfied with my skill. And bc I’m not satisfied with my skill I don’t post my animations on yt. But this is inspired me. I’ll keep working on my skill trying to improve. Tysm for this amazing advice!

I had someone who basically either ignored me and/or refused to send me WIP's for a two week MAP and didn't even have half of it done by the official due date, and when I kicked them for that reason they complained, saying something along the lines of "I don't know why you need the part so soon when all of the parts in the MAP haven't even been filled."
The due date was written in the rules, I asked for WIP's several times. I gave them all of the chances in the world, even gave them an opportunity for an extension, but they basically came back and said "well I MIGHT be able to get it done [a week and a half from today]"
That sucks!
How do you deal with people who DID NOT get a part,BUT DID THE PART ANYWAYS?
Like, you saw their comment, you didn't accept them but they went ahead and animate the part they wanted even though you denied their request to be in the MAP?
Oh crap I forgot to include that
I ignore them usually
Xiuhtecuhtli 0 those people *exist?*
@@Skipsjack Oh they do, and it sucks. Sometimes the part could be amazing but they didnt get it so you kind of awkwardly shuffle a bit. Just as North said, its best to ignore it.
@@Skipsjack yes,yes they do and it sucks.
I had to deal with people like this before and it was frustrating.
Going on a rampage may decrease your likeliness of getting into MAPs with different people
Because a lot of MAP creators seem to talk to each other, they could be talking to each other, and the host may start ranting about you to another creator.
Tuna Ramen oh my god that is just so awkard like "dude you didnt get the part" and they already have a finished a hole animation XD sorry you had to experience that
That seems uncomfortable and annoying.
I just “pre” finished a part, just Incase they accept me. Should’ve seen this sooner.
@@JellieMichael From what I've been reading, you're fine as long as you don't send it in/treat it as a solo thing.

Don't:
complain about there being "no good MAPs available"
because that is false, there are literally thousands of open MAPs for literally any style, genre, and fandom. seriously just search "(insert fandom/style/genre)OPEN MAP" and you'll find what you're looking for almost instantly. even if it's someone you've never heard of, even if it's hosted by a new member and isn't popular, they deserve a chance to get their MAPs done too :)
puppyhowler what’s a style and genre of map?
@@CommanderNissan a style meaning things like: a scripted map, a nonscripted map, a map that uses specific color palettes, etc

This was really helpful! I’ve recently started joining a few maps and I’m going to (try) and remember the rules in this! Have a good day/night
Also I love your art-
If you are looking for some begginer maps, there is a channel called warriorwolfcat that has plenty of them.
I ALWAYS re--read the rules before and AS I go along, so I don't screw up! I truly do wanna respect their guidelines. Sometimes people talk in broken English and confusing forms for me though so I admit there's been times where I've oofed, and they let me know , I fix it. :)!
I have a question:
If the map was an amv map, is it bad that the host would more likely pick someone because of their art style over their animation?
Starrie Whiskas no, not from where I stand.
Ok thank you!

So if I'm hosting a MAP and don't have any backups, what can I do if someone drops?
You can for example take the part yourself which is often the easiest way to go on about it, you can make a community post announcing the fact or just wait for someone to notice and ask for the part.
Northflower Oh ok! Thank you very much owo
@Juweli :3 one thing I have done to get parts full is to ask smaller youtubers if they would like to join, because if you find someone with like 11 subs they are very excited that you noticed them and will want to be included.
@Nebula Dog Ahh! Thx alot for the tip
Threaten to kill their dog if they don't comply.
If one of the rules of the MAP is to cut your own audio, how do you do that? Also, where do you download the music for your MAP call?
For cutting your own part, usually I would download an mp4 of the map call, then I would cut down the video to only my part. I would insert the clip into my software and unattach the audio and video, delete the video and there.
And for the downloading music, sometimes people would either download the song ( off of ITunes (smthn like that)) an mp3 converter or just plainly getting another device and play the song while recording it on the device that they plan to use to make the map call with.
Hope this helped!

"Hey I would like part 100000 ( it's not a part :T)
Code word: Don't kill me.
And I do clay animation,so is that okey?"
i got to say to how many people don't let me in. like I ask to join maps so many times but on like 1 map will let me in.
You are true but not once have I ever seen a map for clay animation or someone that does clay for map parts. It's only me who does it. Not once
VikkiWebstar_ 207 just search it up! im sure youll eventually find one
I've always been rather clueless about how maps work and what's expected of you to do, but this really clears things up!!
XD this is a good video north but unfortunately I don’t have discord so I can’t join most maps! Oof
had a pretty sad experience with joining a map , i got told i got in then the host chose someone else. i totally finished in the deadline with still days left and i told them i finished it but no responce. i decided maybe they didnt see it so left it. i came back to see they replaced me without even telling me. wtf. it was beginner friendly by the way. my map part was shit but if your gonna kick me because someone elses was better just tell me.
I get the contact issue if that's a thing but many don't even try to make contact with you, how can they expect you to come to them if they won't come to you and vice versa? thing is sometimes people just forget, don't think of it, or are so focused on actually doing the work in what little open time windows they have (many have school and jobs) to go back and comment all the time (this is why I prefer contact through discord now. and bugs me when people have it and just choose to ignore - because youtube is BAD about telling me I got replies. and I am one of those workaholics) lol
sorry u went through that.
I would love to be in a MAP but I can't animate xD
Same here; I can't animate at all. I want to create little PMVs or map-like things for my own characters for myself. I've been watching a lot of the minimal-animation maps to get ideas because my tools consist of a potato laptop and Windows Movie Maker. I can never get into a M.A.P because they all have a rule that says No Watermarks :')

@@spirit_fire654 I do the same lol just with short dumb pmvs

Relatable oof

Man I just want to say your art is improving and I love it so much
i'm pretty sure most of the hosters pick popular people
Untrue, actually.
CrystalFanq oh yeah, that’s SO true with some MAP hosts.
You should be honored to accept them!1"
There are a lot of obscure people hosting maps and I’m pretty sure they’d pick anyone

I love your Cats design!
Ooo, thank you for the tips! When my animation gets better, I will try to get a part for a map
I really want to join a MAP, but I definitely would have to improve my animation skills first!
Thank you for this. This is very helpful in terms of knowing what some hosts would like in maps when joining
I’m hypnotized by the background
