I'm a little confused after browsing the comments. I don't think people realize these are specifically riding boots, more specifically meant to be worn with spurs, which are also heavy. ( that's what the spur shelf is for, otherwise don't get riding boots, they also look silly without spurs ). Nice review JC ! Cheers all 🍻

I bought the sharkskin version of these when they came out and the first thing I noticed was the weight. Definitely heavier than most other boots I own. I also agree that they feel AND look bigger than their true size. They make my feet look huge!
The sharkskin is thick and durable and looks killer. The leather lined shafts are supple and comfy. They are definitely shit kickers and ready to stomp around in ALL kinds of weather and land/terrain conditions.
I will not have any issue using and abusing these Bad Larry’s!
    Great review!

Just got my new pair of Prescott size 14 D. I normally ware size 15 B. These fit great. No toe crowding. Like the fit with the insole. These are running a little bigger than some other Tecovas, like the Banderas. ( I tried to stretch the boot for my tall instep and still had to add zippers to get my feet into the Banderas. The Banderas are also a heavy work boot too.) So for me the bigger size worked out. Love the fit and finish of the Bison leather. I always have sole savers put on all of my leather sole boots. These boots were designed for horseback ridding not for working in the mud and rain. Yes, they are heavy compared to other boots but I wore steel shank and steel toe with zipper boots for 32 years. With size 15 feet all of my boots would feel heavy. I guess I just got use to it. Just weighed my Bandars and Prescott boots. 6.5 lbs. for the Bandars and 5.5 lbs. for the Prescott.

I bought a pair of these literally two weeks ago, almost to the hour. I have feet that generally are slightly wider than normal and fit better into wide square toe than other toe styles. After trying on size 13, 12W, 11.5W in their other models I found the standard 12 in this one fit like a glove. I have noticed its slightly heavier than other boots I have, but as I'm a big guy I don't feel the weight has been an issue. In fact every one of your downsides haven't been an issue for me at all. (They even fit perfect with the thinner tecovas boot socks)
What have been my issues... the treated leather soles squeaks loudly on nice clean floors like terazzo. None of my other boots do this. The leather itself also makes some noise when flexing. The worst though is that they placed seam stitching inside at the heel lower than other boots I have. They felt great in store, and great walking around the hotel room I was in, but after walking just 200 yards down the street my left foot got a HUGE blister from rubbing on that seam on one portion of the inside left. I now just place a bandaid on that spot and wear them. The other issue is the stitched tabs at the top where a pull tab would go. They use some type of hard or coated thread when stitching and if you didn't have tall socks on it literally scratched my leg raw. I was actually able to grab these hard threads and pull them out which made it better. My feet do seem to sweat a little more in them and getting them off is way harder than other boots I have because of this.
What I LOVE about them... They slide on incredibly easy for tall boots, way better than others i have that fit snugly. (Plus they actually seem narrower on the top shaft than other boots i have and seem to conform to my leg better) The Bison lower leather has that unique look to it that only Bison seems to have. There's a checked pattern and the wear marks make it unique. The top portion looks like aged leather which really drew me to the boot as well. Overall I like them and am wearing them right now.

I ordered a pair and saw this video before receiving them and was concerned what to expect. After getting them I did not experience the same issues and the weight is not a problem. The stitching issues I haven’t had perhaps because I wear the tall Dan Post boot socks. I haven’t had them long but as most boot owners know, you pretty much will know if a boot works for you right after putting them on.
Boots don’t fit everybody the same. JC seems straight up and if they didn’t fit him right then I’m sure that’s the deal. Doesn’t mean it’ll be the same for you. It’s like that with anything.
I don’t have near as much experience with as many boots as JC but I do have quite a few boots. The Prescott looks and fits great for me. A big plus with Tecovas is the ease of ordering and returning, which is great if you don’t have stores with a wide selection of boots near you.
My wife recently bought the Jamie and loves them which is what led me to the Prescott. I ordered two sizes to speed up the process and since they include return labels I simply returned the one that didn’t fit. I ordered the same size I use with square toes and it fit true to size. ETA: I ordered a D and EE since I have flat feet. Depending on the boot I can sometimes do a D but in this boot I needed EE.
I prefer medium rounds and squares and based on pics and JC’s vid I wasn’t sure if I’d like the toe. Turns out the toe looks great. The ol’lady likes these boots the best and so do I. Great looking boot.
Keep up the vids JC 👍🏼

Its pronounced Bi-Son. The Prescott is a horsemen's boot as in built to ride in. On a horse weight doesn't matter. Durability is what is key. Any cowboy boot in the rain/mud will not last. This is a riding boots first and walking second. Its also made to beat the hell out of them and keep going. I use mine for riding and anytime I don't want to wear my good boots that I can beat the crap out of.

I've got a theory why they are so heavy. First of all, i doubt that tecovas factory removed the fleshed side (roughout) of leather soles. Usually it is recommended to sand this side, cause it doenst affect durability but greatly improves light weight of material (leather soles). And second factor, dont forget that soles of prescott model treated with butyl. Combine that treatment with rough out side of soles, they suck up butyl like sponge, probably two times more than they should.

I am admittedly late to the party. I'm looking up these videos because the website says that I should order a half size down from what I normally would order. I ordered these in 11 D because that's what I had ordered from them before, and I think these actually fit better than my first pair. It's a good thing I saw them on Last call last night, because I ordered the last pair of sandstone suede. I don't care about the weight, I want something that is comfortable, durable and these look nice as well.

The Prescott is marketed as a “riding boot”. Many horsemen me included like my riding boots to be a little large for comfort and safety in the saddle. Likewise for a riding boot more leather equals better as weight isn’t that much of a concern. Long story short, I don’t own this boot but some of the negatives may be positives for some horsemen. I have different boots for riding, chores and casual but my riding boots are dedicated for that purpose. Great video. Thanks for your insights.

I feel like you being in the boots for one day you will never really know how good of a work boot it really is. One morning of chores will never tell you how the boot really last or works; and that goes for any boot you have reviewed (maybe send them to a real cowboy and get their thoughts maybe 🤷‍♂️). As someone who trains horses 7 days a week and on my feet for much longer then you were I can tell you these are good work boots. Mine lasted a while before I had to change them out and I train horses and teach equine studies for a university so I go thru boots A LOT. Maybe wear them more time on a ranch then make an opinion about the boots and how the hold up. Just my simple opinion.

I am just not a fan of Tecovas. They seem to cut so many corners to appeal to the masses. Which kudos to those people that these are made for; they won't notice the difference in a quality cowboy boot vs. Tecovas. However, for anyone who knows a quality cowboy boot these are cheaply made fake boots for the weekend cowboy at the mall. Something like a Hondo is so much better built in the same price range. Something like Anderson Bean or Hondo is Lucchese quality at the same price as Tecovas, granted they do not offer as much variety of skins and craftsmanship design as Lucchese which is what you are paying for there.
