    I love this video! I think it helps people to think in terms of how to build a boot collection instead of thinking brand v. brand. You could make yourself a collection of three pairs… one from each of the three spots (modern, middle, and traditional) for starters.

I tried to get some Tecovas from their new CA store, but they don't seem to be ready to properly serve customers yet. Maybe I will give them another try in a few months. For now, I'm really liking the Lane boots...likely in the middle construction I imagine.

    I've had a two pair of the modern Ariat bantam weight ventek. For comfort they are hard to beat however I tend to wear one edge of the heel off in a about a year rendering them junk as you can't easily fix it, also I don't care for the fact the paint comes off the sole. I feel like at about $200+ they probably aren't the best value for me as I wear them daily. I'm saving now for some Anderson Bean or some other more traditionally made boot.

    Always enjoy your informative videos. Assuming a traditional made boot like Black Jack fits well what are the advantages to spending the money for a custom boot that goes for a thousand dollars and up for a basic leather like bull hide. Some of the boot makers you interview talk about fit and and quality compared to the lesser quality boots but how do they compare to a Hondo for example.

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  2 года назад +2

      More attention to detail in custom boots and plus custom boot makers will measure your foot in nearly a dozen different places and literally make the boots just for you. That's the real value in custom boots. It's all in the fit!

    Very interesting video, and I learned a lot. However, there is one aspect of traditional vs modern boots that you didn't mention, and that is what kind of last is used to form the boots. I have feet with a very high arch (ballerina feet), and I haven't been able to get my feet into any brand of cowboy boots except Ariat. And that has nothing to do with the materials or the construction techniques - it has only to do with the flatter last all those other brands use...

    You would be surprised how much some hott water and 91%alcohol it help shrink leather. If a vamp is a little too lose I’ll spray it pretty god and let them sit, and it’s done the trick many times. I’ve also used the trick to shrink some parts on a leather jacket that were a hair to big.

    I prefer traditionals because I trust them more that they don't go cheap at critical places. I was using a traditional (all-leather, wooden-nails etc...) pair for 8 years (continously) and the heel counter is still perfect. • @davewester2418
    @davewester2418 2 года назад +2

    The only boots i wear are los altos and tecovas. The heel counter is infact leather just like a traditional made boot, so you were mistaken on that part. The only things not "traditional" about los altos is the leather topped slightly padded insole, and also like you said they don't have the channeled welt. Besides that they are completely traditional. Main point im getting at is los altos and tecovas are about as traditional as it gets without being 100%. So id have them between traditional and middle, definitely not completely inbetween

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  2 года назад +2

      They use plastic or celastic heel counter. There's nothing wrong with any of these being where they are on the scale. They all have their purpose and pros and cons. Los Altos and Tecovas may look traditional but they are in the middle which is cool. Nothing wrong with that.

    • @davewester2418

    This is very important. So many companies are racing to the bottom for quick money...Not to mention outsourcing to use slave labor. Just like Harris Tweed in Scotland has a legal license for Tweed of the Heberdies. American Western States need a legal license where only cowboy boots can be made in America at minimum and the west as much as possible... If not everyting is going to be made by slave labor...

    I would say tecovas is totally modern shit build boot I would have put Chisos in the middle traditional build with removable insole

    good video on the differences but my thing is who cares, do y'all love your boots or not? I love mine...own 3 pairs and devote 1 pair to work in and the other 2 I wear everywhere. I live in the liberal shit hole IL and I think people just have come to realize it's who I am...I'm a boot man no doubt. I wear the "western style square toe" I guess you would call them...may not be considered a "cowboy" boot but Idgaf what people think ...they fit me just right! 😉
