Really strange my copy of 45 is much sharper than shown. Motion blur appear to be the case, as shot at 1/40. In real life it is wide open sharper or on par with 85 1.8 from Sony. Too sharp sometimes showing all the blemishes on the skin
He definitely has a bad copy in the review. My Rokinon (Samyang) 45 is incredibly sharp, especially when stopped down to 5.6 -6.3 for product shots. It's on par with the Sony 50mm macro and Sigma 70mm macro.

I'm looking for a faster lens as I'm noticing very often my AF is not following the subject well when moved. Lots of shots are out of focus. Do you think the samyang has better AF speed then the above lens? Mayby its just a7m2 being too slow? I try both AF-C and AF-S settings - I turn off pre-AF.
Indeed prime lenses are way better than kit lenses. However, the 45mm Samyang is a really good lens for the price. I did not try the 18-55mm kit lens but I am totally happy with the Samyang 45mm autofocus.
Well for what I can see here is that the Sony cost the double amount of the Samyang but it’s not twice as good. So for me the Samyang is the better lense compared to the price. The Sony has definitely a better quality but it’s not worth to pay the double amount of money for it

What are the diameter of the of both lenses Objective, front lens. This is what determines the the resolution for a lens and it’s sharpness. Bigger objective better resolution. Of course a good quality lens is a must too. The Sony lens objective looks bigger.
In 35mm range, I pay $625 for a Sigma 35mm art f/1.4 Super sharp better than this Sony 35mm f/1.8.!!! Weight more? Yes is not a problem for me. But is SHARPER than Sony and cheaper.
I didn’t try Sigma art yet. However the lenses I compared are very similar in size. I like to compare different combinations. Many people search for results like this

Hey! Now you have couple of options.. Samyang 45mm f1.8, Sony 35mm f1.8 and the new Samyang 35mm f1.8 Do not get Samyang 35mm f1.4 some copies including mine have bad autofocus. And After a while the autofocus stops working, I had to send mine to Korea for repair. Check your budget and your best needs 35 and 45 are beautiful focal lenghts

Do you know if the Sony a7 requires a firmware update? There’s no information about that anywhere. Like which system needs what firmware?
Search for Sony "camera name" firmware update and compare the latest version with your version.
Indeed the update will improve the camera performance.
I mean if the lense need the update for the camera. I’ve heard you need one for the Sony a7 III but I wonder if I also need one for the first Sony a7.

I had the 35mm 1.8 and was not impressed. The lens had zero character. Just a standard sharp boring lens. Go with the 45mm.
No doubt, the 35mm from sony is overpriced. The 45mm is a better option though.

Oma Ghomrawi Samyang 35 f1.8 is a Excellent Lens! A Bit Sharper than the Sony One. But the Sony 35mm f1.8 is better AF Speed and Good Coating.
