I love my bmr steel. It has been a very consistent shooter and fits the bill for base class Nrl22 nicely. The other plusses this rifle has besides taking rem 700 triggers are: The barrel is threaded into the receiver so when the aftermarket catches up easy barrel swaps. Boyds is already making aftermarket stocks and surely so chassis will be coming. When the aftermarket catches up to this hidden gem i see alot of potential out of this rifle. Cheeper starting point than a b14r and more reliable to boot.
Just saw one of these Bergaras w/carbon fiber barrel at my local shop this weekend. Had to do some investigation, looks like I found my new 22 “all around” rifle! Thanks again for your work!
Great video, the nice thing about 22 LR is it is still relatively cheap to shoot compared to centerfires. Kudo's to Travis for his work and the huge improvement in his abilities in front of the camera. If you go back and watch one of the early video's he appeared in it is like night and day to this one. Keep up the good work.
Bought the BMR steel barrel. Nice rifle for the money. Pros: match chamber, 5&10 Shot mags, light weight and nrl22 accurate for base class rifle. Shoots. most ammo MOA at 50 yards. Rifle shines with SK Flatnose and CCI SGB. For plinking Federal Auto Match is outstanding. Cons: Spongy trigger, noisy bolt cycle -sound like a zipper and cheesy picatinny rail. Used JB Bore paste to smooth out bolt cycle and installed an EGW 30 MOA base. Bergara could have left off the picatinny rail and made the action smoother and quieter. Overall I give the rifle a B+
Got a Harris bipod and a Bushnell Match Pro ED 5-30 x 56. Excellent performance both rifle and scope. 3/4" 100 yds. With a can all you hear is the hammer hit the firing pin and the round hitting the steel. Great trigger as well. Also purchased a BXR 10/22 clone. Not the same level of quality as the BMR under the hood that is. Shot good though. traded it back for a Ruger Competition, hasn't arrived at my FFL.
...nice video! I'm shooting a Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical. Nothing special with the spec, 16" hammer forged heavy barrel and BX trigger. But once I found the right ammo it's incredibly accurate with Eley. From 25 yards to 100 it's subMoA for 5 shot groups which is excellent from a standard semiautomatic and cycles without issues.
I went with the CZ457 over the larger R700 footprint actions because of this exactly. Lighter, easier to carry, woods walk rim fire. I think this will be a great gun. 👍🏻
I let my buddies talk me into trying NRL22. I got the B-14R carbon barrel, which they later told me was likely a bad choice. Whatever. The gun shoots lights out, I'm already scoring middle of the pack. Easily under 1/2' 50 yards. Decided I needed a BMR too for squirrel hunting so I got the carbon one. It shoots just as well. I was amazed. Decided I needed the carbon barrel BXR. Same thing. Then talked myself into a steel barrel BMR for base class. Once again I got a sub 1/2 MOA gun right out of the box. The B-14R likes SK Standard Plus. The other three all get those same results with Norma Tac-22. The Bergara .22's are just amazing. I love each one. So well made. So accurate. My only quip would be the BMR action isn't the smoothest. Still working to break those in, but for the money I'm impressed.
I'm itching for the b14.. but my wallet is itching for the bmr... lol Is there that much of a difference? I've seen some people say they bought the bmr then regretted not buying b14r first so bought it and got rid of bmr.
I have the B14 HMR in 6.5 C and that thing easily shoots sub 1/2 MOA when I do my part. Love it! I have a Christensen Arms Ranger .22 and it shoots Federal bulk box ammo pretty well (thankfully). It shoots CenterX in particular EXTREMELY well. I mean 1 hole kind of well! Its also very light weight. Travis didn't comment on that light weight making it unforgiving. It forces you to do everything right every time to wring the most out of it. Thanks!!
I ordered a BMR carbon yesterday. I have a Monstrum gen2 6-24x50 FFP IR scope awaiting install. I'm really looking forward to breaking in this combination and finding what she likes to eat. Rich
@@michelzenner7282 where can I order some SK from. Although I live in CA I am exempt from the state law which restricts me from buying online. Not all online ammo dealers accept my credentials but that's their choice. They have probably been burned in the past and don't want another loss. I have a current FFL-03 and COE and legally can order ammo for my personal use. I shoot in my local USPSA club matches and I can really burn up rounds. In addition to this, I am not restricted from purchasing more than one pistol or centerfire rifle per month. Not that I am buying that many guns per month. It is nice to be able to take advantage of a good deal. I am into both C&R and current precision rimfire-rifles. Thanks for the suggestion and I'd love to find some SK 22lr to try. I disagree because the carbone barrel on the CZ is a match barrel and it shoot just a litle more accurate than the steel barrel. On Bergara, i won't be as sure because i didn't tried yet but i wait a wrapped carbon model in 22 wmr so i hope that it will benas accurate as the steel barrel version or more also, as the CZ rifle in 22 lr 🤞🤞🤞🎯
What has happened to 22 rf? I used to shoot 3 position smallbore with an Anschutz 1813 and Eley Tenex. Of course it shot great. The surprising thing was that EVERY marlin bolt action rifle that I shot Tenex out of would shoot under 3/8" at 50 yds, with most groups being closer to 1/4". The triggers were terrible, but the rifles were accurate. Eley's cheaper ammo would also stay at or under 3/8", as would a few other quality offerings that didn't break the bank. Today everyone looses their mind when something shoots under MOA out of a "target" rifle with a match trigger. I don't get it. Has quality gotten that bad?
Exactly...as a kid. I got a Marlin 22lr bolt action with a $35 Tasco scope for X-mas. They were a Kmart blue light special for around $100. RWS subsonic at 50yrds printed .4 and .3 groups all day long! Why does that accuracy today...require a $1200 match rifle w a $1500 scope? Welcome to the future...i guess! It's just plain pathic!
@@icepredatoroutdoors1229 in fairness, in the 90s, I remember all of the gun rags raving about how the newest rifle of the day would shoot MOA with hand loads, or for rimfire they were impressed with anything under 1" at 50 yds. Been waiting for these to come in stock. Almost bought the tikka but wanted to hold out. Got an email from sportsmans theyre in stock and got one on order today.
My bmr will not accept a tt diamond or special. The trigger will engage first cycle but will not catch the bolt lug after. If I take out one trigger pin and lower the housing a tiny bit it works. Maybe the bolt engagement is out of tolerance on mine.
im looking for a 22lr for competitions , but the competitions im looking into require free hand shooting with a sling . this gun is only 5lbs but the b14 and the ruger precision are both like 8lbs and with an optic there is no way i can free hand shoot that so im going to go with this BMR or the CZ American . so many of the 22 competitions are not bench so im surprised the b14 and other heavy guns are in the market
So myself and a couple friends have some very well built 1022s. Extremely accurate with lot tested ammo. One of them also built a high end rimx. It is fantastic to shoot. My 1022 shoots very good groups out to 200 yards. However when we shoot at places that go to 300-400, it seems the rim x has an advantage. I understand that once to bullet leaves its external ballistics, but it always makes us scratch our heads. Have you tested this before?
Find one with a 16 or 16.5 inch barrel and compare the velocities with one with an 18 inch barrel. I have recently been told by my gunsmith that recent tests have shown the optimum length barrel for velocity for a .22 long rifle is 16 inches. Supposedly the .22 bullet begins to slow after 16 inches. I would like to see it tested without having to do it myself. I guess I can though.
The BMR - 22 is a sporting rifle. So test it for accuracy with 22long hunting ammo. All 22long ammo is $$. Match ammo is even more $$. Still you did a good review on the BMR. Nice rifle !! Thanks!!
I have a Remingtonton 541S custom sporter. It's been a wonderful squirrel rifle for the hardwoods of Kentucky and Indiana, for my past 40+ years. I'm wanting to go lighter weight and shorter overall length. I think this is probably the rifle I need to replace it with. I'm confident I can sell my rifle and more than pay for the complete set-up on a new bergara carbon barrel rifle. Any thoughts from y'all?
I have a B-14 R that shoots well with Midas + and SK Pistol Match. I added a Triggertech trigger which helped with the results. Ironically, I pick up a BMR steel tomorrow and will enjoy doing my own comparison. Thanks for the video.
@@joshjamesguitar I got the BMR for it's lighter weight. When handled side by side, the BMR is considerably lighter. So I already enjoy the ease of handling. However, I have not acquire rings for my scope so will have to get back to you on the accuracy department, but I expect it to shoot well. After I shoot it (2-3 weeks) I'll post here. I'm thinking you are probably right, the BMR will most likely be the better value.
@@terrymcknight4167 Well looking through the specs, really the only real differences are the stock and action/reciever. Barrel and chamber are the same, trigger the same. And i think some aftermarket brand will probably build a chassis for it at some point
@@terrymcknight4167 Have you done an accuarcy comperison between them yet? Strugglin to decide which one to get... The price diffrent is about double here aswell.
@@Mardes13 Due to cold weather and some other issues I only made it to the range one time for about an hour with the new rifle. The day I was there the wind was quite gusty so I only shot it at 25 yds. However, the results were encouraging. I shot it with SK Standard + and then Lapua Midas+, the only two types of ammo I took that day. I quickly shot a couple of groups with the SK STD+ and average slightly under 1/2 inch. With the Midas+ the groups reduced to about 3/8 inch. At that point the wind really kicked up so I put the rifle away. So, I plan on going to the range tomorrow afternoon since it is supposed to be sunny and mid 50's in temp. I will also take along some CCI STD velocity and some Aguila STD velocity to see what they do. I'll let you know. However, I think it will shoot great.
Is there any reason to think that the steel-barreled version would be less accurate than the carbon barrel you tested? I'm looking at one of these for NRL22 shoots and would like to have the spare $$ for the scope if there wouldn't be a substantial difference.
There is a review of the steel barrel BMR on RUclips that suggested that that that version sprayed rounds when it got hot. The carbon barrel gun supposedly does not do that. Just what I’ve found in these reviews.
@Travis Fox still planning the setup including a light scope with parallax adj and a max. zoom of 12x. A Meopta Optika5 or a Zerotech Thrive have 60 MOA in the stats. The Leupold and the Athlon I d pick have 80 MOA. But I honestly dont know the real adjustment range.
Interested to know what they'd do at 100 yards and more. The 10/22 I built will do .75-.85" at 100 with Federal GMM. That's with the somewhat heavy trigger I still have on it. I need a trigger upgrade, for sure. It has a barracuda stock with a Green Mountain barrel and cheap 10x scope. Did the build for under $600. How do the Begara's do vs. an Anshutz?
The bmr isnt in the same class as an anshutz, that would be the b14r. Compared to the other rifles in its class, the bmr, Ruger precision, savage a22, ruger 10/22, it holds it own. I own three of the four i listed and it comes in solidly at 2nd place. The bmr will consistently hit a 4 in plate at 200 yards all day long. It averages 1 moa with almost every type of ammo i have shot threw it. The only complaints i really have with mine are: 1 it has a low comb hight, the stock was made for a action using iron sights which it doesn’t have so a cheek riser is mandatory. 2 it is ammo picky. It really hates hv ammo. Stay below 1100 fps it shoots great all day but go over 1200 and it groups like a shot gun. The gun does show real promise and i am hoping the aftermarket catches up to it. It has been 100% reliable over about 1500 rounds. I am hoping that soon some chassis will be released for it as well as aftermarket barrels, when they are i am turning this into my open division gun.
@@Ultimatereloader since I don’t have an awesome place like you to shoot, I’ve been doing rimfire out to 200 yards with my CZ 457 Varmint MTR - it’s super addicting and hopefully will help me use fewer rounds the next time I can stretch out with the 6.5 Creedmoor
Will this rifle accept a Rem700 type stock, m5 type DBM, and bergara AICS style 22lr mag? I know the B14R will, I am just thinking long-term.......can someone purchase this as a squirrel rifle for a young shooter and then upgrade it to a PRS trainer rifle in the future? Ern
No. The BMR is built on a dedicated rimfire receiver as opposed to the Remington 700 receiver for the B14R. The only thing that will interchange between the BMR and the B14R is the trigger.
You need a 30 moa rail on a 22lr way more than any centerfire rifle. 21 ish mils of elevation adjustment to hit at 400 yards off of a 50 yard zero. Most centerfires will never be dialed to 21 mils or close
@@PursuitofAccuracy would you agree that 400yds with 22lr is kind of like playing the elr game with centerfire, thus needing the extra gains supplied by a 30moa base?
It's exactly like @pursuit of Accuracy said. very few centerfire cartridges need any MOA on the base because they drop sub sonic well with in normal scope adjustment range. For example my 6,5crm goes sub sonic at 1100m and i only need 12mrad from 100m zero to get there( my scope has 15mrad left from 100m zero). Since 22lr is sub sonic all the way, we don't need to worry about the black magic that happens when going from super to sub sonic. But because it is so slow from the get go, we need a ton of adjustment to reach anywhere. If i had the same scope situation on my 22 that i have on my 6,5crm, 15mrad would "only" take me to 300m. That is really long range for 22 but i think you get the idea. In summary: less speed => more elevation needed
I have the B14R with steel barrel. I bought the barreled action and then put it in a Magpul 700 stock. It is fairly heavy and definitely a bench rest sort of configuration; not an "all day pack around in the hills". I haven't lifted a carbon barrel version as of yet, so I don't know what that weighs. This newer BMR will definitely be in my sights for a future purchase.
I was looking at the barreled action. I couldn't find any photos that shows it coming with the bolt. If fact some of the comments at Buds guns asked that question and were told to call Bergara customer service. It wouldn't make sense to not come with a bolt. So? Did it come with the bolt or was it extra? I will pass it along to Buds guns. Thanks and hope you enjoy what looks like a well built rifle. John White
Regrettably, bargain ammo may group well at times, but isn’t consistent enough to be counted on to show a rifle at its best. LOTS of folks enjoy stuff like CCI SV, even for some types of competition, but flyers will appear; bet on it. Consistency is what you pay for when you buy the pricey stuff.
This is a great rifle and platform with one downfall. BERGARA if you’re listening, please produce this with what if for the most part the industry standard Ruger 10/22 mag!! The BXR does this. Why wouldn’t the BMR?
@Travis Fox My Bergara B14R once shot a 0.13" 5-shot group with Center-X. Key word being "once". A 6x5 target group is much more indicative of a rifles performance. You cherry picked only the best groups to show, completely excluded the Midas+, and didn't even mention the other two ammo types you shot. It is very poor data to pick from. I remember this channel used to be about data driven conclusions and reviews...now it's all about hyping products you either got for free or are paid to give good reviews. That is lame.

How do you like the BMR Terry? Where I'm at the BMR is more that half the price of the B14r and i find it hard to justify the price difference
Did I see pitting at the start of the bore? Cheers
I'm looking at these rifles for my daughter who shoots for her school. Not real sure which would be best for her.
Anyone know what the blue tape on top of the scope was for? Did I miss something?
@Travis Fox Gotcha, thanks!
Bmr vs ruger precision rimfire? Which is better
I bought this BMR for a light weight hunting rig and love it with a 2-7 optic. I run a Kidd 10/22 build with a 20" barrel for competition.
I just picked up mine 2 day ago, can't wait to take it to the range
For NRL22 type matches, steel or carbon or doesn’t matter?
Would the 30 moa rail make it hard to zero with a small scope like 4x fixed?
@Travis Fox even if the scope has only an elevation range of a total of 60 MOA? btw thanks for all your awesome reviews. you guys rock!
@Travis Fox I would like to go for the typical rimfire zero distance 50m (in Europe) / 50yrds (in the US)
@Travis Fox still planning the setup including a light scope with parallax adj and a max. zoom of 12x. A Meopta Optika5 or a Zerotech Thrive have 60 MOA in the stats. The Leupold and the Athlon I d pick have 80 MOA. But I honestly dont know the real adjustment range.
@Travis Fox thank you for your information. your videos help me a lot!
Is this a switch barrel like the cz. If they make it lefthanded id be all ovef it.
Does it have the exact same stock as other Bergara rifles? Or is it a skinny comb stock?
Do they have them available left handed?
Has anyone tried the Christianson Arms Ranger .22 lr?
Left hand version available?
Can it be dry fired safely?
What is the price range on this setup
The worst thing is there are no magazines in stock anywhere. Hope you don’t lose a mag.
Jealous on so many levels Gavin! Sweet review and extremely well done 👍🏻 🙌🏻
Thanks Ron! Love the Bergara rimfire stuff!
Will this take a Trigger Tech trigger?
Any Rem 700 pattern trigger...but most likely not a flat faced trigger. Doesn't look like the trigger guard will allow that shape of trigger.
Hey Gavin, good looking light rig, what’s the price point on it ? and side note: your channel is addicting man.
Love your videos, but it's there anything better than watching it in "chipmunk" mode at 2X playback speed! 🤣🇺🇸
The BMR shoots better than all 15 of my CZ. I never thought this would happen
I just have my little Ruger 10/22 rifle but it shoots well. good plinking and pest control gun.
Those bregaras are nice. Almost got one in 6.5
Looking for a BMR .22 Mag. Very excited. Hope it’s accurate . Will be a hunting gun. What scope do you think?
I really have been impressed with the Vortex Diamondback Rimfire 2-7x35. Perfect for hunting and the range of the .22 mag.
I usually go shoot and then go home and read the manual and clean
Why the hell do you need a 30 moa rail on a 22lr??
Same reason you want one on a long range centerfire rifle.
@@mapu7870 i dont think its directly comparitive as your not dealing with as much varisbles but it is very close.
Hey Gavin, any updates regarding the progressive shootout? anything youre still collecting data on?
Would you do the Tikka t1x or the Bergara bmr?
Jb the bore and I bet you couldn't split them!
John White
Very nice thanks
It would be cool if you put it in a carbon fiber stock with good ergonomics
i want the 17hmr carbon fiber barrel, and im going to put my nomad L on the end lmao
Will you try the average joe priced ammo like blazer, cci, Remington Winchester
Regrettably, bargain ammo may group well at times, but isn’t consistent enough to be counted on to show a rifle at its best. LOTS of folks enjoy stuff like CCI SV, even for some types of competition, but flyers will appear; bet on it. Consistency is what you pay for when you buy the pricey stuff.
Weight was 5 lbs, so let's throw a great big ol honking scope on 'er, lol
This is a great rifle and platform with one downfall. BERGARA if you’re listening, please produce this with what if for the most part the industry standard Ruger 10/22 mag!! The BXR does this. Why wouldn’t the BMR?
Why did you cherry pick 1 group. Said you tested 6 but only showed 1 group...lame.
@Travis Fox show all the groups instead of the best one, you use to give honest reviews seems like ya sold out to the highest bidder.
Aww man I was hoping that this was going to be the 10/22 pattern version. Bolt gun's don't do it for me anymore.
What do I think? Comment.
Why not take one of the more accurate 22lr's in your collection and do a reloading with the cutting edge stuff?!
Steel barrel
Speed Accuracy is more important than Accuracy? Really?
Hey 1st Comment
I Love New Rifle Videos but im not ammused with this 1.
Im so irritated you showed the best group as sk rifle match when it is clearly written that was shot from the B14R
Nice rifle. Most of the other kids can't afford the optics , due to the paper route.😀
