Great advice on the explosive portion. Move the weight fast and this will translate to quicker strength progress - something I was fortunate enough to learn from my strength coach at Uni
@@Estrategista29 not as good for hypertrophy though. for hypertrophy you want to focus more on tension production (going slower, more reps, TUT) and while on strength you want to to focus more on power output (explosiveness, more on technique and execution to make the lift easier)

@@mounir9899 it is bullshit but not if you don’t have the proper mind to muscle connection (most people don’t). You have to develop a strong mind muscle connection with your late and arms before you start doing explosive reps, otherwise your form will quickly go to shit. Before doing weighted pull ups Austin did a lot of static and slow pull up work to perfect his form in the movement, so when he does explosive reps he’s recruiting all the right muscles thanks to the foundational connection he built. Most people jump into explosive training without building that foundation and end up with a shit ton of muscle imbalances. Develop proper MMC first, then move to explosive reps. Apply that philosophy with every movement.

So I did this last saturday, started at 45 lbs and added 10 lbs until I got to 85 lbs total. I could only do 1 rep at 85 lbs so I started knocking down weights. I could barely do 3 bodyweight rows at the end. My lats have been sore since then although I regularly train pull ups. I'll do it again next saturday. I can't wait to be used to this and see what kind of strenght I'll get.

I started weighted calisthenics about a year ago but never looked into a chain style belt. I first started out holding a 45lb plate with my thighs, which is also the best way to do weighted leg raises (windshield wipers/around the world's). I ended up using a nylon strap to better control the length of how low the plates hang. I keep them close and not low. I'm up to 6x45lb plates, had to get creative on hanging them.

Great video Austin! I'm currently working on my weighted pull ups, and one thing I'm doing is practicing them too slowly, so your one tip about the explosiveness is something I will try to see if I improve.
Tip starts @3:30 The tip is basically “doing full range of motion” Also; he mentions slow reps vs fast reps. He forgot to mention that Both have benefits. but he prefers fast reps Slow reps > if you can do 10+ reps Fast reps > if you can only do 3-6 reps He also mentions Progressive overload, which btw, is not the only way you can build muscle.
I think you might be confusing adding weight with progressive overload. Progressive overload is pretty much key to building muscle it's just adding more weight is not the only way to achieve progressive overload
FYI: I do them with my thumb on the same side as my fingers almost like “ suicide grip “ bc if your falling off cliff you won’t be able to find a bar or something to wrap your fingers around . Great video by the way 💪🏻 .
I have been stuck at 6 reps @ 90lbs for a few months. A lot of great info in your video man thank you, I will have to invest in some chalk and I am guilty of performing my reps slowly so I will need to retrain at a lighter weight and progress up again just to have the muscle memory of that pattern. 10/10
Hey Austin please make a new 5-10 min tricep workout it’s been 3 years since you last made a tricep workout and I could only imagine how much you learned more about tricep workouts
Be explosive, make sure your grip doesn't slip, keep the elbows tight (close to each other), keep the weight as close to your body as possible to reduce swinging in the weight which one will then have to compensate for.
Thanks very much for putting up this video to educate the proper form on how to execute weighted pull up exercise....personally I used to do assisted pull up on the machine and regular bodyweight pull ups for hundred of reps of course that's way easier to do....but when I saw this video you posted I decided to buy the belt and give it a try and to be honest I felt in love with making it part of my routine and making it a challenge in building that strength power...I've noticed alot of soreness in my forearms and elbows as I go heavy on this exercise lol
Here's a hack I found: Instead of a dip belt, buy a rock climbing harness and a sling. You can easily detach the weight between sets and it costs only about $10 more and you can take the harness rock climbing/mountaineering. Plus, it's a lot more comfortable and doesn't make noise like the dip belt does.
I couldn’t figure out why my pull ups weren’t improving even with weight. Turns out I’ve always focused on medium speed and eccentric pull ups, not explosive. In fact, I don’t train anything explosive and I really need to change that starting today.
since i do weighted pullups to help with climbing i also realized being more explosive and starting the rep with power will help carry your weight + whatever weight you add
You are actually right. That also helps carryover to Front Lever as well as One Arm Pull Up. But for me personally eblows in is easier cuz it engages more of my arms and my grip strength. Usually when I max I tuck my eblows in for extra reps.
Elbows out from my experience seems to activate more the traps and that's also why it is harder traps are far weaker than lats, isn't arm adduction one of the main function of the lats?
Great video. My gym has 20lb chains that I do amrap drop sets with as well (chains, then bodyweight, then 50lb assisted). Glad to see I'm doing the right thing, except with baby weight 😉.

I would definitely say do both, doesn’t necessarily have to be on the same day, but depends how much time you have. I do a pull up workout 3-4x a week, and went from like 10lbs for 2-3 reps to +70lbs for 4 reps with extremely strict form, I did weighted pull ups at least twice a week, did a lot of front lever training, and whenever I do non-weighted pull ups I almost always explosively pull to my chest or lower, accept when doing chin-ups sometimes I’ll go really slow and focus on squeezing the bicep really hard.
This video really helped me progress I’m 150lbs, 5’7. Before I could do 6 Pull-ups with a 45lb plate. Now I can do 6 Pull-ups with two 45lb plates with a 20lb plate carrier on after two and a half weeks of progression 🙏🏽

Maximal strength and weighted strength are so good
