20 years ago, my wife and I drove to Alaska, in February. Our route to the ferry was very similar to the route you took to Seattle. While we started in Michigan, we did stop in Cedar Rapids for Mexican food. We took our time with stops in the Badlands, Devil's Tower, Little Big Horn, and Yellowstone. We even stopped at Wall Drug.
This trip briefly reminded me of my trip to Yellowstone back in 2021. I saw a wildfire around Wyola, WY on my way to Billings, MT. Really loved the drive to West Yellowstone, since the scenery was just mind blowing to someone who's never seen mountains up close before. I hope they put a supercharger up in Cody, WY, so that the eastern entrance to Yellowstone is more feasible.
I learned a lot from the videos of your trip. I just got my MYLR and have only taken it on some trips over the mountains of 175 miles or so each way. I especially like your idea of charging to 90% overnight then doing the last 10% in the morning right before you leave so as not to leave the car at 100% for too long.
Thanks for the very nice video. I’ll be taking my model Y on I 90 the other direction to SD in a few days. Delightful to have a preview of the super charger stops and caveats along the way. It was especially nice to hear about your driving speeds and wind issues relative to consumption. Hope you enjoyed the Seattle area.
Great vid. So glad to see it as I'm planning a Milwaukee to Seattle trip in April next year. Will be interesting to see the usage difference at that time of year. The Tesla app has us routed through North Dakota however and will have to check the contrast in consumption via that route. Undecided if we'll go South or North (and may be weather dependent as well.). Anyway, thanks for the show and information. Looking forward to your remaining legs.
Hi! Question about the wall connector charger. Are you afraid of folks unplugging the charger throughout the night. I know there are locks that can be purchased. Do you use one of those locks? Thank you! Great vid!
Howdy IowaT! I live in Spokane, and about six weeks ago I followed your westward route, only I went east. I grew up and returned for a visit to the Quad City area. It was a hoot to see you stopping at almost every Supercharger I used, but in reverse order. Your Liberty Lake supercharger was actually where I picked up my MYLR. With a little preplanning, we could have shared a supercharging meet. BTW, I am guessing you do most,if not all your filming with that excellent X3? Thanks for the excellent videos you post.
I love how you’re “slow charging times” are 120Kw charger speed. I just did a road trip from MN to Iowa and was so happy when I didn’t have to use a 5Okw charger. I was so happy to see Electrify America options, even if the reliability was always in question. Can’t wait for when I can start using the Tesla Chargers with my Rivian R1S. I did just order a Tesla M3, but not sure I’ll ever road trip it. The Rivian just has so much usable space and it’s a very comfy ride.
Worthington, Mitchell, and Oacoma are easily in my top ten bad superchargers. FYI, there is a EA 350 charger that is just off the interstate at Worthington. Have fun, seems like a fun trip.
Looks like fun. I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, worked in Iowa City til 2002 and now live in Arizona. New Model 3 owner 5 weeks ago. Do you find that the trip planning for Supercharger stops takes into account use of AC pretty well?
What a trip! ~700 miles per day is pretty strong. We try to limit our days to around 500 miles. We did something similar last year, going from South Carolina to Mt. Rushmore, then down to Texas. Total of around 5000 miles.
Wondering why you’re frequently charging to high ranges on your battery. Most places (states) charge more as you charge higher. Is that not an issue for you? Do you have free supercharging?
I just picked up my first Model Y Performance today. It seems quite a few people are pushing me to get them PPF put on the car. Gotta ask, since you travel all over in yours, do you have PPF? If not, do you wish you did? If so, would you do it again?
We just ordered the 2024 Model 3. I was sitting here listening on how much each supercharger was costing and my wife said, our car doesn't cost that much more for gas to fill up. Just got me thinking about buying the Tesla.
If you do all of your charging at superchargers you will not save a bunch on electricity. The real savings is that you will do most all of your charging at home. That and essentially no maintenance and you will realize the true cost savings.
You are scaring some of your viewers by telling us what you are paying for each charge. You might mention that you seem to be charging at the peak rate and that there are savings to be had by supercharging in the morning or later in the evening. Thanks.
What is this phone app you are using for charging stats?

I grew up in Mitchell! Many great memories. Will be going uo in september from Florida.

What software/app are you using that you’re overlaying on your video at charging stops?
I am curious about that software also.... Can you share what it is?
Have a wonderful trip.
Really cool video. Thanks for taking us along your amazing trip.

Great start & beautiful scenery. Those winds in SD are no joke!
Thanks Brian! Still working on editing the rest of the trip. In the middle of making another one.

Just got done with 3000 in the northeast. Good vid.
Great video!
Thanks!

Very interesting and wow what a trip!! Just curious what would your guess, just guess the cost vs gas on this trip …

Those first days and last days were a haul. FSD makes it tolerable.

Maps should show how many chargers and whats availaible/occupied.
I’ve always wondered why Tesla uses watt hours per mile vs. miles per kilowatt hour for efficiency numbers.
Amazing work on the editing! How come on the outro you are in another car? 😂😅
Good eyes. Needed to film the end and my wife’s MY was available.
Do you stop to rotate the tires every 5.000 miles as advised by Tesla?
I will admit, the first rotation happened at 42,000 miles. Depends on your driving style.
How is the seat comfort over all those miles?
Wonderful. Most comfortable seats I’ve ever road tripped with.
I'm not complete sure what you are doing but it looks like you did not precondition your car at around 10 mins. It was only charging at 108kw at 35%.

Did you use FSD?
As much as I could. However, avoided it in big cities.
@@iowatesla I found it worked better around traffic in cities than it did on the open road.
why no 4k :(
I’m working on it. Have storage space issues on my phone.
@@iowatesla ahh yep I hear ya. Just a pity that beautiful red Tesla with all those pretty vistas is missing pixels
The bird is a magpie.
Thank you!

The Canadians will throw you in prison with all.that stuff in the trunk
WOW My EARS are bleeding. Sort your volume out. Are you deaf
