New Powkiddy X28 Unboxing & First Impressions (T618 Retro Handheld)
Hello World, how are you doing?
In today’s video we will be unboxing the brand new Powkiddy X28 I new horizontal 5.5 inch Android Retro Handheld with the T618 now this is not the first handheld with this chipset but the x18S got mixed reviews so Powkiddy have got this new version to compete in the market. Have Powkiddy done enough to make a dent? Let’s find out with the unboxing and first impressions.
This is not a review, I will do a review after a long intensive play through of the x28
I will be doing a video on emulation tomorrow testing all emulations ps2, GameCube, Wii if there is anything you wish to see let me know in the comments. I will also be doing a video of the new Citra emulator with the new improved Vulcan backend.

5.5" is just perfect, i hope we get a better build quality, better chip in the same form factor sometime in the future.

I really like the X28! Got mine since the 5th and tend to say it’s the best T618 Handheld but you have to install a different launcher.
Definitely best Powkiddy device so far. Sturdy, feels good in your hands, great display, good controls

Same, have had mine for a week now and I really like it, good build quality, good sound, nice big screen and is really great once you install and setup Daijisho.
Looks really Impressive definitely a great PSP/PSVITA upgrade handheld
awesome psp performance and vita is ok but it’s more down to the emulator needing more tweaking

I would not say so. They are producing decent devices here and there for years now, while still also making the more shabby stuff.
I got mine X28 a week ago. It's the best android handheld (with the old GPD XP). Big 5,5 inch screen, the buttons are great and it feels perfect in your hands. I use the Arc Browser. The best frontend in my opinion.
Have to try that one out man and yes its awesome handheld from powkiddy

@@SonicLoveEmulation I been playing a lot of Dreamcast games and and some GC,PS2, and psp. They all work great, specially Dreamcast the graphics is really sharp. Thanks for your videos 👍.
I really appreciate this video. I ordered mine already, but was trying to find at least a little bit of feedback from anyone else. There are a few videos already, but they are all in languages I don’t understand and none of them had captions. So thank you!

I like this. I’m thinking about getting a retro portable game system but I recently saw the retro 1tb micro card. And I’m thinking about that for my rog ally? Which is better?
Performance on the Rog will be amazing but it is a tough one as I have the steam deck and I love playing retro emulation on it! But I still love to have a dedicated retro handheld to play games on I much prefer Linux to windows so I would say there are lots of great handhelds you can play retro games on and leave the Rog for pc stuff….but it’s up to you really
Thanks great video. It is a good price but I have a RP2 + which I still use on trips and upscaled ps1 games and below.. If you are showcasing game cube and PS2 can you do village section in Resident evil 4? The RP2+ does handle it ok but goes down to 15fps. I have the steam deck as well and the FC3000 that you recommended about a year and a half ago for gameboy and gamegear games. I would say if the price drops when new handhelds come out with a better chip it may be worth me picking up this then. Look forward for the other videos to come out on this though.

I’ve held off getting this so far , I kind of have been out of Powkiddy after the quality build issues of the X18S and a few other devices.

Does it come with built in games and if so how many? As I have a powkiddy RGB20S version witch came with untold games pre installed from all types of systems like PSP, PS, Capcom 1, 2, 3, Mame, Atari, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, DS, Sega etc. etc. Or do you need to put them on yourself? and finally it asks if I want a 64GB - 128GB memory card, Apart from more storage does the memory card difference mean more pre-loaded games?
Sadly no but one thing you can do is take that sd card and copy them games to a pc and then you will always have them, get a new sd card format the sd card on the x28 then take out that sd card and copy them games and bios to the new formatted sd card and then you are good to go.

Nice review, How is the screen quality in terms of contrast / satiration / colors compared to the rp3+ and 505 ? Im hesitant between this and the 505 as this has better ergonomics but screen quality matters a lot to me
to be honest with you they are the same chip set and performance but I think the Powkiddy just beats it, but the screens are both great I would say the 505 is better colours as it’s an OLED, but the colours are still popping on the x28 and the resolution is much better on the x28 hope that helps
@@SonicLoveEmulation Just use the saturation script on the RP3+ makes the screen on there pop as you put it, on par with the screens on the RG505 and this one, I bet.
This would probably make a great PSP/PS Vita Machíne.

Would this be ideal for gba, snes, sega etc? Want a big screen device actually. Already gave rg35xx but looking for horixontal gaming. If nor this, which would yoi recommend?
Big screen good resolution solid emotion and cheep I would go for the Retroid pocket 3plus or the powkiddy x28
The overall design looks quite decent to me! Though, I would have rather it been a 7 inch display. I still may just pick up one of these later. Until then and afterwards, I still have my 7 inch PowKiddy X17.
The x28 chipset in the X17 would suit you maybe 😊

it’s the best handheld from Powkiddy at the moment but a 7 inch version is what’s missing in my opinion

NGL I am looking for a dedicated PSP Machine. I don't care about Gamecube and PS2 Emulation on the T618 Chipset. I'm more of a Linux man but still. Also I hope Sakura Mods makes PlayStation style buttons for this Handheld.

I’m really liking this handheld. Does anyone know if I need a computer to play games on it? Do I have to download them on a chip? I know it comes with a few already but my other handhelds have thousands of games.
Do you have to download all the games, or does it come with preloaded games
Have to use your own roms on android handhelds unless the seller has a sd card with it
I prefer Linux because the Android side of things you can just get a phone that does the same 🙏🏽but that's me

Btw, running Batocera from an internal 2TB ssd on the win600 now. 😊
am like you not a fan of android but butting a nice front end on it can make it at least feel like a Linux handheld but this is by far Powkiddy’s best handheld to date man

personally for me yes I would, but it down to style, do you want a clamshell with analog triggers, or this or the very well made 505 it’s all down to the person needs and likes really but for me the x28 suits me better

are the games preinstalled in the sd card?
Not on here no buddy most of not all android handhelds don’t have games unless the seller states it

Did L2/R2 work for you in Dead Cells? Doesn't work on mine.
They don’t work on any of the t618 handhelds sadly I do think there is a fix for it but I will have to do some research on it
@@SonicLoveEmulation Thank you for checking. They do work on the RP3+. I don't remember if it always worked or if it was fixed via the latest update.
Big call to pick it over the RG505 and Retroid Flip. I'm torn whether to get this or the RG505. I'll have to wait to see more.
I have the 505 and I love that handheld it’s awesome, got the flip it’s great but now I have the x28 I have really enjoyed using it the past few days. but it’s definitely personal choice and what style you like is a big part performance wise they are the same but the x28 for the price it’s very good

I would say go with the powkiddy; the 505 has really poor pixel density and if you’re on anything with dark screens there is visible banding.
I sold my 505 because of the oled mura effect. I'm now picking this up.
@@Xtoffer87 I just got mine in. On first boot I noticed what APPEARED to be the same effect. Now after less than an hour of usage I’m seeing image burn in just from configuring retroarch 😬😬

it’s a lot better don’t get me wrong it’s no way perfect as I would have liked analog triggers but it’s most definitely the best Powkiddy handheld to date

ha ha it’s ok, yes you will have to have your own roms for this one but if you have a old retro handheld with roms and bios on you can still use that one

I would definitely not take this over the RP 3 plus. The RP3+ is made of much better material by a better company
