  • Chatting through the temporary basal function that comes with the Omnipod insulin pump and is GREAT NEWS for type 1 diabetics.
    ~MORE INFO BELOW~
THINGS I DIDN'T SAY THAT I SHOULD HAVE SAID:
    - You still need to bolus for your meals with an insulin pump, alongside setting your basal rates.
    - You can reduce your temp basal as well as raise it, and many people require this function when they are exercising.
USEFUL PROFESSIONAL LINKS THAT EXPLAIN THINGS PROPERLY:

Sorry the music is a little too high. I sound like I'm in a Super Mario Bros game.

Im getting an Omnipod, switching from a T-Slim and I didn't know of this feature! I love it because I swim in the morning but taking a pump off then makes it so I have no basal while swimming so this will be nice to have a slower correction for the rise in the morning, rather than putting in a few units of insulin before getting in the pool to swim, then leading to a low possibly. THANK YOU!

No worries, glad you found it useful, I hope the Omnipod works out for you! What is making you switch?

Well, the site that I have now makes me get an allergic reaction which leads to bruising and scars. The other options for sites is limited and I have tried all of them and they dont work for me being 13 and having small arms and thighs. The Omnipod auto insertion is my favorite! its pain free and you dont have to deal with the needle(site) at all. I love the T-Slim as a pump though! Its is very easy and up to date. I got the Omnipod yesterday in the mail!🎉 Although I am not allowed to use a pod yet because I have to go to a trainer even though I feel confident with it... I get this though because like the temp basal, I didnt know it was a feature!

Thank you for the video! I'm hoping my funding will come through very soon, but at the moment I'm set up nearly to use my mobile with Omnipod and Rilylink, but if I have a PDM too I have a backup! Would be nice a video on how best to get a good basal rate and how we calculate for it! Not sure if you have already done a video on basal but will check. Hope you don't mind me adding your videos to my web site?

    Hi Jen ,
Just checking to see if you are OK?
As you have not been on your RUclips channel for a long time.

Aw thank you Rex! Life just gets busy, I've had big work projects but I also produced a Type 1 podcast last year which was really fun! Hoping to produce more videos again, thank you so much for checking in. I hope you're safe and well

I've had Type 1 for 22 years and I'm 52 now. Using the Accu check Spirit combo. Getting tired of the tubing. Is the Omnipod all that or are the cons outnumbering the pros? What are the pros and cons of the Omnipod? Love your accent, but your eyes are stellar. Cheers from Canada.

Where did you get your omnipod from? Is it the mylife omnipod?

+Shannon Parkinson Hey Shannon, yes it's the mylife omnipod, I got mine through my diabetes team at my hospital in North London.

+Jen Grieves (missjengrieves) is this on prescription? I'm really interested in switching to pump after watching your videos, been looking into some more pumps and this one seems like one of the better ones I could find! Love how much more discreet it is to others.

+Shannon Parkinson I didn't even know it existed until I went to my hospital to talk about the possibility of switching to pump. Your hospital has to apply for funding and then when you are approved you get the pods directly from Ypsomed. Lots of people prefer pumps with tubing, and I've only ever used this one but I didn't like the idea of being attached and getting caught up etc, I find this pump works well for me. Maybe speak to your hospital team and see what they advise/if they offer a tubeless pump?
