    Type One for over 30 years. Still doing injections because it has always been how I have done it. Going to go see the doctor tomorrow about getting a pump and am terrified. Not sure why I am crying but it sort of feels like I'll be losing a part of who I am by switching. HOWEVER, here is what I know will happen. One week after I get going, I'll curse myself for taking so damn long doing it.
    Thanks for making it a bit less scary.

      T1 for 40 years. I’ve always refused pumps because previously with the wires they look like a colostomy bag. I’ve always done MDI and I’m very well controlled. In the next few weeks I’m finally moving over to this device. No wires, no looking like a disabled person with wires everywhere. Hopefully this will be the first time in 40 years I won’t have to inject. It’s amazing how fast things are moving for the better. Only critism with this device is man it’s bloody big. 🙄

      @@kristatinajero2196 I started in July. I absolutely love it. First pod I put on I got an infection from it. Think the body wasn’t used to a cannula. Since then no more infections and it works very well. The first 3 weeks id say there was teething problems with the sensor staying connected, but this was ironed out with the nurse and speaking with omnipod. My control was pretty good on MDI but even better on the omnipod. I haven’t injected since July. I also now Don’t have to secretly inject if in public. I just press the controller to give me x amount of units and it does. I think you’ll love it. Good luck.

    To avoid bubbles in your insulin vial, keep the vial upright and inject the syringe full of air into the vial. Because of gravity, the insulin automatically remains at the bottom of the vial and no bubbles are created. Then tilt the vial upside down to draw out insulin.

    Thank you very much for the clear, easy-to-understand, and honest information. Of course we all experience glitches when managing our diabetes. Stuff happens! I don't have a pump yet and am trying out the Omnipod, by which I mean that my diabetes educator gave me two trial pods filled with saline in order to give me a sense of the physical aspects of wearing one: weight, bumping into it, sleeping with it, keeping my dogs off of it, etc. I've been wearing my DEXCOM CGM for several years and frankly the Omnipod doesn't feel any different to me, yet. I guess I won't really know until I have the cannula inserted and it's pumping round the clock. Does it make a noise? Will alarms beep in an annoying way or will it allow me to sleep undisturbed as long as my readings and pumping are going smoothly? So much to learn.

    Just found this video and Im amazed how complicated and cumbersome this system is. I switched back to pen delivery and a freestyle Libra and my life is much better. I had a pump years ago and didnt get along with it. My Freestyle Libre is great allowing me to check my sugar every 10 minutes if I needed to. The Libre also lasts for 2 weeks. I would not trust the automatic delivery.

    Ohhh man, thank you for the video and your observations + tips!! My partner has T1, but also has pretty severe needlephobia. So when he finally got the dexcom 6... First 3 months were traumatizing to both of us tbh. He cannot place it himself, and if he was forced to, he would just go back to finger pricking. He's built up enough scar tissue so that the pen isn't a huge issue, but man, there is no goddamn way that countdown to the cannula insertion and beeping would go over well. Plus, he's an arm only type of guy. Could never use the abdomen, lower back, buttocks, or even the thigh because of the physical activity he does + the needlephobia. The arm works well because he can't watch me place it, and it's out of the way of clothing etc. This was super helpful, because as his partner I've been thinking lately after about 9 months of dexcom usage, an automated insulin system would be awesome. But with not only those caveats mentioned, the fact it only lasts for 3 days? Woof. Every 10 days is already too much poking in skin that hasn't been totally desensitized. Oh well, I'm just so thankful for the benefits of the dexcom outweighing the cons, moreso than the omnipod. He no longer wakes up in the middle of the night in a complete stupor because of low glucose, and we both feel better about him driving after a few too many close calls. This is all Definitely TMI, but whatever. Some things are worth the hassle and fear, some things are not, and are totally manageable with the 'old ways'. If its not broke, don't fix it, y'know? Thank you again for the honest review!

    Thanks for this. I had been considering trying these but I won’t now that I’ve seen your video. The thing I hate doing with my pump is filling the reservoir. I only use about 30 units a day so I would have to do the thing I hate far more often. I had thought that the pods would just end when you run out of insulin not after 3 days. I was also told they run through an app on your phone not a whole new device. Definitely not suited to me. I always learn something from your videos. Thanks!

    • @kirstenkay1399
      @kirstenkay1399 Год назад +1

      Not so fast. I love Omnipod and could not ever go back to a tubed system. The pod only requires that you put in 80 units, if you are using 30/ day, I would put in 100,just in case you need extra for any reason. You can use your phone and app if it's an approved phone. I only use my phone. If you activate with your controller you have to use it for those 3days. You cannot switch back and forth during a pod session, but you can when you apply your next pod. I love Omnipod and could never go back to a tubed system. Wait until you have no tubes! 👍🏼 You can also push the end time by a few hours... It will let you know several hours before, but when it expires, it expires. I just aim to not have any of it when I'm trying to sleep. I think you'll love Omnipod.

      @raygiordano1045 15 дней назад

      @@AintNoFool Thanks, and I hope your experience is better.
      When the pod controller, pod, and sensor work they do a good job at keeping my blood sugar levels normal. Before the latest adjustments I'd get a lot of crashes, now they are fairly rare.
      The G7 does have its problems, but I was having problems with the pods even with the G6, so I think the pods just have a very inferior Bluetooth compared to every other Bluetooth device I've used. I mainly don't like putting the G7 sensor on my arm, it gets in the way a lot compared to my stomach, and it's hard to do. I do like the tiny magnet on the G7 applicator, I pry them out and collect them.
      The best part of the G7 is my phone can't run the Dexcom G7 app. That app darn near driven me mad with its constant alarms at all hours. The bad part is the insulin controller doesn't warn me about crashes at all, which are my greatest concern, and even if I wanted to set alarms, there's no way to do it.
      Dexcom and/or OmniPod5 need to aggregate their feces and resolve the Bluetooth connectivity issues. I think the most annoying thing that happened to me recently was when the insulin controller had me trash two new pods because it couldn't connect to them, then while trying to get a 3rd pod to connect, it connected to one of the pods I had to trash!
      Good luck with your OmniPod5, when the Bluetooth works, they work well. When they don't, it's a royal pain in the neck.

    Why would anyone want to have an entire insulin pump attached to the body? Looks really uncomfortable😕

      The alternative is 6-8 shots per day.

    218 mg/dL equals 12.1 mmol/L-do you truly consider that high? My goodness, what would you say about the countless times over the past 20 years when my readings soared beyond 35 mmol/L (over 630 mg/dL)? Watching all these so-called 'diabetic' individuals on RUclips, with their picture-perfect glucose levels, feels almost surreal. Their numbers barely scratch the surface of what real diabetes can look like. Let me give you a glimpse of what a genuine diabetic like myself endures: blood sugar levels plummeting as low as 18 mg/dL (1 mmol/L)-and still being conscious enough to check-before risking unconsciousness. On the other end of the spectrum, I’ve faced highs as staggering as 900 mg/dL (50 mmol/L). That’s the unfiltered reality of living with diabetes, a reality far removed from the polished narratives often presented online.

    I’m sorry not too be rude and yes I’m a diabetic I have been at the age of 21. I feel like this a waste of time, dangerous and honestly a lazy way to let machines handle our bodies. I started with a Libre 3 and ended up with a blood infection and most of them fell off. I’d rather die and take insulin and kill myself before doing this. However I go in for my Wednesday not looking forward to it
