With the G6 I wear it both on my abdomen and upper arm and now with the G7 I wear it both on the abdomen and upper arm plus in the last two months I have been using the chest also. I have found that the chest, in my case, has shown to be very accurate. Great video I do agree with all you said during your video. I would have also mentioned that both the G6 and G7 may be inaccurate the first 12 to 24 hours if in doubt do a Finger stick.
I have used the G6 and am currently using G7- I have found that several locations work accurately for me when it comes to rotation sites:upper chest where there is soft tissue right above the breast, abdomen- any of the anatomical 4 quadrants, thighs-rectus femoris, and either side laterally and either side of low back just above gluteal area ( to the side so you don’t come into contact with sciatic area)- very versatile and easy to apply!

Hey, I’m a newly diagnosed type 1. I have watched a bunch of your videos and I found it a great resource to becoming knowledge about how to manage diabetes and the tech that helps. Can you make a video geared towards the family and friends of T1d? Like a video meant to educate them of what they may have to deal with, how to react, essential life saving things, etc. All these videos are great for diabetics because there is so much information but for family and friends a really boiled down version explaining and hitting the major points I feel is really necessary as a newly dx’d t1d. Thanks and I love your content!
Hi, thanks for your kind words and thanks for a GREAT video idea. I’ve had some ideas written down for a while on “Things families of people with diabetes should know” but I think you’re right that a video specifically geared toward families of Type 1s would be smart; their struggles are different and specific. I’ll definitely put that into the project lineup. In the meantime, I’d recommend a channel called @Diabe_tech. I don’t know the creator personally, but he makes very good content from the perspective of someone with Type 1. The @TCOYDtv channel is also very good and doesn’t get enough attention, in my opinion. They are two endocrinologists in San Diego and both are living with Type 1. Good luck in your journey and welcome to the community.
Thanks for the video and all the rest. It should also be noted that to use this with a pump requires the use of the number in white print and underlined for Tandem hopefully they will change this to make less confusing. Thanks for a great video and all the information you have provided.
Glad you had it helpful. You’re right that the new insulin pump - compatible sensors have that slightly different appearance. Thankfully, Dexcom isn’t really making the older ones anymore and as pharmacies start to run out of the old stock, only the newer, compatible ones will be distributed. So it should be a very temporary issue.
I love the G7. I have been on a pump for about 25y. This new tech is amazing, easy to use and has a 20+/- in accuracy. I was just in the hospital and found this to be true. On the regular is was 10 or below what the hospital meter read. I was thrilled to say the least! Warm up times seem to take less that 5 minutes for me, and being a brittle diabetic ,this is invaluable!! The sleeker design is wonderful and I have yet to have one be torn off by clothing. There really isnt any difference in where I wear it. Im using the back of the arm right now but will test other areas.
Thank you! Your video was extremely helpful…I had a partial pancreatectomy almost 12 years ago, for a very large tumor. My A1C was WNL for years but now, my glucose has been very difficult to manage. My doctor has recommended CGM…after checking with insurance, they cover dexcom G7 & the CGM accucheck CGM made by roche. There is little info on Roche CGM. Think I’m going to go with dexcom G7 as I suspect I will need an insulin pump in the future…thanks again
I’ve always had a problem getting things to stick to my skin. I’m T1 since 1978, on a pump since 1998, and Tandem X10/Dexcom G6 since 2016. To keep infusion sets and sensors attached I’ve tried overlays, surgical tapes, and a variety of skin prep and glues none of which ever worked. Duct Tape did work but causes intense irritation☹️. Finally I tried Ostomy Adhesive Glue which does work quite well but can be difficult to apply to a sensor or infusion set. Applying it to an overlay is not hard and 90% Isopropyl cleans it up quite effectively. That the G7 comes with the overlay is great, cutting overlays out with scissors is actually is quite difficult and time consuming. I bought punch device to cut overlays for my infusion sets, and it looks like it will work the G7 as well!😊
I'm happy with my Tandem Tslim X2 Insulin Pump & my Dexcom G7 Transmitter/Glucose Sensor! The only thing that bothers me is The Dexcom G7 app.'s High & Low Glucose Notification Tone is too loud & makes a scene to bystanders. I haven't found a way to adjust the volume to a lower setting yet. If there's only one standard volume, please consider making an update on the Dexcom G7's app to where patients can adjust the Notification Tone's volume to their desired setting, thanks!
I hear people complain about the receiver. I cannot overstate the use of this. Anytime there’s an account problem with the Dexcom app or online account, you can use the receiver wired and upload it to the endocrinologist. It’s also much lighter and more convenient than the iPhone.
With the g6 my sugar goes crazy during warmup. I just got my g7 this week. I can't wait to try them. I'm using a t-slim pump with my dexcom. My a1c went from 9.6 to 7.1 with the use of a pump and dexcom sensor.

Hi. thank you. you have reached small part of England ,in this lovely middy sunshine . I hope you can help, can I use G7 for Type 2 diabetic, after over 25 years , i seem to loss control, time come need outside help. Thank your for your help.
Yes, the G7 can be used in Type 2 Diabetes. I’m not sure what the requirements are to get it covered under the NHS, but it’s definitely worth discussing with your GP.
I recently got a prescription for the G7 and it included a sensor and receiver. Did anyone in Canada actually bought the receiver or did you just use the app on your phone
Had g6 never was able to keep from knocking it off within the first month, so I stopped..G7 have not had that issue, probably because you seldom touch back if arm but you always touch your core, only issue is early g7 antennas strength was hit or miss, newer sensors much better but will still have periodically signal loss if you bump device…over all great! Went from 9.8 to 5.4 a1c in little over a yr… big fan
Thanks so much for the info, I enjoyed it very much. My question is can I have the G6 ànd the G7 app on my phone at the same time, because I have samples of the G7.
Sure. If you’re using a G6, you can connect it through the G6 app. If you have a G7, connect using the G7 app. But I don’t believe you’d be able to wear a G6 and a G7 simultaneously and connect them to the same phone.
i HAVE A DEFINITE LOVE HATE WITH MY g6. hOWEVER, TELLING ME i DON'T NEED A FINGER STICK IS CRAZY (SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS) I have had exactly one sensor give me a correct reading out of the box in over 3 years. I don't even bother trying to calibrate in the first 24 hours. Also I can't even count how many sensors died prematurely. HOWEVER , when it works, it is GREAT! I have learned more about my blood sugar in the last 3 years then I had in the previous 50 years.
I'm a new T2D and got the G7 based on a friend recommendation. I'm not on insulin, but my doctor was able to convince my insurance that is necessary because of the injection Mounjaro. I used it as the directions say and it only lasted 5 days, i have sleep apnea and only sleep on my back. Well how do your arms lay in you sleep on your back... you guessed it, my arm was pressing the sensor and lost connection for 3 hours, when i woke up the app said i needed to insert a new sensor. They replaced it within about a week, but i learned to put it on the front of my arm just below the shoulder but above my sleeve.
I had a lot of lost connections and compression lows with the G7 on my arm. I wear it on my abdomen now and no more compression low. Then again I don't sleep on my stomach. Lost connection mostly gone away. Get it if my arm is resting on the sensor.
I have had a Calibration in progress since May 18th. I need to update my new sensor and it won't allow it because the May 18th Calibration is still in progress. How do I clear this? Thanks
I I noticed that my G7 trend was erratic (jittery). Since I switched from the G6 to the G7 Sensors, I am having a big issue with the data trend being very erratic, often jumping by up to 80 units from one reading to the next. Can you tell me what causes this and how to minimize this. I did not have this issue with the G6
I noticed that on the graph of the G7 as well. From what I've seen, Dexcom changed the plotting on the graph to be "exact". Not as gradual as the G6. 80 unit change in 5 minutes seems drastic. I have had compression lows do that but not to that extreme. Also the first 12-24 hours of a new sensor can be on the erratic side. Something we have to live with. No sensor is perfect 100% of the time.
I would like to thank you.Your information on a The Dexcom G6 and G7 I've used boat products. What about a week Dexcon G6 did work well with Galaxy S 21 phone and Galaxy watch 4 but there was some issue with the Dexcon watch Interface not working on showing reading on my watch I still got alerts on both devices which was good but the Dexcon G7 would on only show me readings on my phone and would only go to my phone I will be upgraded both devices later in year I hope to see if would Samsung Galaxy S24 or 25 series and hope it will work Galaxy newer watches and thank for your podcast please keep Providing us with more information.
After inserting the sensor you pair the sensor (four digit number on applicator) to the app and the pump. Pump uses the basal rate during the half hour warm-up. After that half hour the sensor sends glucose readings to the app and pump.
I don't have the G7 yet, but I will be changing soon from G6. Having said that, I will not use their overpatch. I get an overpatch on Amazon from a place called Lexcam. I have been using it with my G6 and will buy it again for G7. What I like is the overpatch is clear and not white or another color. Adhesive is great - it's never come off for me.
I may be LADA patient. The idea of me getting a pump has been discussed too. Just started insulin last month. I’ve been looking on RUclips for any and all things diabetes. I’ll subscribe to your channel so I can learn more from you.
I use the G6 myself on my thigh, and it works really well. But where did you get the idea that it's 15mm thick? I only measure it to be 8mm. The reason I haven't switched to the G7 is because it's fairly common knowledge that it has a VERY poor range, with a decidedly poorly designed antenna. Don't you hear about this in conversations with your patients?
One last time: Finger stick bG tests have a theoretical error margin of +/- 15%. Many of these systems are routinely off by as much as 35 to 40% according to extensive testing by the Diabetes Technology Society. Yet people who should know better routinely hold up finger stick bG results as some sort of Gold Standard...which they most definitely are not. Using a finger stick meter to test the accuracy of a CGM system has two main problems. First the finger stick method is testing blood glucose levels while the CGM systems are testing interstitial fluid levels which run as much as 20 minutes behind blood levels. So in effect you are comparing apples to oranges. Secondly as I already pointed out neither of these systems provides reliably accurate results. Thus checking the accuracy of your CGM by using a finger stick meter is kind of like checking the accuracy of your car's odometer by remeasuring the mile with a yardstick. Good luck with that project!
I had NOTHING but problems with G7 so I went back to G6. The biggest problem was how wildly inaccurate G7 was for me and how it had to be calibrated in steps instead of all at once. It also frequently would not take the calibrations so I was stuck losing a bunch of sleep because it would say, for example, my blood sugar was 40 when a finger stick said it was actually 140. Dexcom needs further R&D on their device!
Watched your video and some i understood and some i didn't. My dad is 97 1/2 and I request his Dr. to provide him with a ztick less method for his glucose, he has been taking shot for o er 30 plus his fingers were bending in to where it looked like it hurt. WT hing different videos and, still not sure . I'm sending out an sos.
It actually depends on your insurance company. Humana said no, but Aetna does not need prior authorization, just the script from the doctor. My insurance changed this year, and I am able to use the Freesyle Libre 3. Dexcom would have been available to me as well.
My rep payee is my parents and they’re also my lame people and I get full health benefits through them because I contributed tax wise at a young age nice start working when I was younger I was never offered the full health benefit package
So let’s find out how we can use G6 supplies, after they discontinue it? I’m not impressed by Dexcom customer , their tech dept sucks. Now explain how much more we are going to be bled dry for the cost of all these “improvements” those of us with shitty insurance can’t really afford any of these “ great improvements”
I am new to the G7 blood glucosesmarter than you and although I have most of how everything works together. The one thing that your video did not show or even tap. One was how to insert the codes. Either manually are especially using the scanner that is made into the G7. Monitor.😮😮😮

Calibration is certainly needed sometimes. My dexcom g7 recently had a reading of 32 (uhh I would be dead) and a finger stick of 91
Watched your video and some i understood and some i didn't. My dad is 97 1/2 and I request his Dr. to provide him with a ztick less method for his glucose, he has been taking shot for o er 30 plus his fingers were bending in to where it looked like it hurt. WT hing different videos and, still not sure . I'm sending out an sos.
being one-armed only I use the D6 on mt stomach only. If I had to use the G7 I would apply it on my stomach as well.
I works fine on my stomach.
That's what I need how does G7 works on ur android phone
11:11 this is so frustrating because I can't afford to keep buying new phones that are compatible with each different app.
😡
Actually, they are not the new standard yet. Unless you are type one, Insurance does not cover CGM's and they are not cheap.
It actually depends on your insurance company. Humana said no, but Aetna does not need prior authorization, just the script from the doctor. My insurance changed this year, and I am able to use the Freesyle Libre 3. Dexcom would have been available to me as well.
Depends on the insurance and your circumstances. For Medicare, anyone using at least one dose of insulin per day can get it
I’ve only ever used G 6 on my arms
But with it being put on and starting the count down to 30 mins soon as its on then you dont get the soaking time !!!
Poor attitudes done help here
All I can say is waste of time and there’s no point to it
The included overlay is a joke and dexcom should be ashamed for including that piece of garbage
Works fine for me.
I am new to the G7 blood glucosesmarter than you and although I have most of how everything works together. The one thing that your video did not show or even tap. One was how to insert the codes. Either manually are especially using the scanner that is made into the G7. Monitor.😮😮😮
