    This works! I accidentally ordered the display port adapter instead of HDMI, so if you're wondering if it works. I've seen a few comments about the displays being mirrored after install. You just have to go back to system preferences, open displays, and deselect the mirror displays option. I need 3 displays for home office so this is a big help, thanks!

    Just a heads up, as of current, the DisplayLink driver is only compatible with up to 4 additional displays, and it does not support screen rotations or, clamshell mode (where the MacBook Air/Pro is closed and you use the external displays). DisplayLink displays also have limitations in macOS for protected content, and so if you play that you may need to disconnect all DL connected displays.
    If you use the Thunderbolt 3 for multiple displays, make sure it's a Thunderbolt 3 adapter, and not USB-C. USB-C to multi-display mostly use MST (Multi-stream transport) which macOS does NOT support. If you're uncertain, ask the maker of the USB-C solution if MST is used for multiple displays or not.

    Great video but do you just have a diagram somewhere? That would be so much quicker than me trying to follow this and write everything down. Also, you mention the 3rd display is connected via USB 3.0 but it has HDMI or DisplayPort ports, so does that mean you're going HDMI to USB 3.0 to the DisplayLink, and then DisplayLink goes to the last Thunderbolt port?

  • @devcybiko
    @devcybiko 3 года назад +2

    Nice work. But technically, you have added an external graphics card. The DisplayLink has a graphics chip in it that the MacMini can use for a third display. So, while technically you're running more displays off the MacMini than spec'd, you've really just added more display cards.

  • @Soaresbruh
    @Soaresbruh 2 года назад

    in case you have an old display and try USB-C to VGA, the Mac Mini only recognizes two displays (1-VGA and 1-HDMI or Thunderbolt), also if you use USB-A to HDMI (it only will recognize 2 Monitors as well)

      Yes. It works. I have one internal monitor. Two external monitors. And one Sidecar’d iPad. One of the externals is run thru the DisplayLink UsB3 adapter; the other via HDMI thru a dongle. One weird thing. One external is rotated vertically (HDMI) and Mac wants to change the resolution to 720. The only way I can get hi-res is option clicking scaling. And it seems to want to default back to 720 (adding Sidecar for example will switch it back to 720.) Haven’t really stressed the system yet but it does seem to work.

Could you inform what Thunderbolt Hub you are using? What is your recommendation? Also one more thing annoying me, when remote to my PC at the office, I found an obvious delay in displaying the movements I performed on the remote PC. Have you purchased the M1 Max Macbook Pro? I'm very curious on what the maximum number of displays it can support. I'm hoping I can run 3x 1440p 144hz displays and 2x 4k 144hz displays but I might be dreaming, maybe the bandwidth might be too much for the M1 max to handle 5 displays.

      I’m very torn because I have a 2019 iMac + eGPU. Strongly considering buying a maxed 14” and if I do I’ll make an iMac + eGPU vs MBP vid and now also an updated video with the M1 Max. :)

    Thank you so much!!! Just bought a macbook pro 13" 2020 and 2 ASUS 4k 75hz screens, what do I need to set up the 2 monitors? DisplayLink (StarTech, 4K@60Hz DisplayPort, 1/2 Monitors), a USB-C to HDMI, and 2 HDMI cables? Do I also need the "Active" DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and display port to HDMI cords? The thunderbolt 3?

    Has anyone found a work around for the 2020 MacBook Pro with the M1 16GB memory and 2TB SSD... Bought a top of the line monitor I thought that year and in less than a couple months it was trash. I have a 32" XDR Pro Display but don't want to trash that MacBook Pro because this particle model for some reason doesn't want to function.

    I had read that it's not possible to run two displays at once via the two thunderbolt ports. This isn't true then?

    Thank you so much for making this awesome video! My situation is a little different. I would use my MacBook pro 2016 with my 27" iMac as a display using Thunderbolt 2 to USBC and hit Command F2. Now i bought the MacBook pro M1 13" and when i installed the cables to my 27" iMac and hit Command F2 nothing happens??? Is there a way that i can use my 27" iMac as a screen with my MacBook pro M1 13"?

    What kind of hub/dock connector are you using?
    We have a Belkin 11 to 1 sent by our work we are trying to make work.
    Currently the monitors are an Apple Thunderbolt display with a thunderbolt to usb c adapter, and and an LG with a USB-c connection. It appears that we need adapters as the only display ports available on the dock are vga/display port and hdmi. Also, the DisplayLink manager application will not open from the desktop, it is downloaded, but I cant access any management screens...is that because the monitors are not yet connected with the right cable adapters via the dock?
    Would you recommend getting rid of the Belkin dock in favor of another?
    Thanks

    I’ve got another experiment for you. Can you try to connect two thunderbolt displays on a Mac mini m1?
    I tried with the following configurations
    1st monitor TB2 >TB3 adaptor (works)
    2nd monitor: mini DP adapter to display port then another adapter, DisplayPort to hdmi.
    and haven’t had any luck.

    Great video. Can you also display the M1 chip in vertical mode with your docking station display manager and adapters? My docking station display manager only works in horizontal mode with the M1 chip and not in vertical mode, I was told from the docking station company that I have that this feature is not yet available (developed). I currently run 3 screens in vertical mode and 2 in horizontal mode with my old MacBook Air with the intel chip. Please let me know. Thank you.

Or has anyone tried? Really want to pull the trigger on this and dump my MacPro for video editing. Appreciate any help here.
