Is there a reason you need the windows PC? I assume the firmware update tool isn’t available on Mac? And can I not just use a usb to 8k hdmi 2.1 cable instead of the adapter? Thanks
Hey thanks for the video. In fact I am using this solution for a couple of months now and it has always been working okay - In many cases the TV stated that there is no signal, I had to unplug, replug the USB-C to my macbook to make it work But all of a sudden, I ran into following issue. When using the adapter and 4k 120HZ, the screen goes black as soon as i close my MacBooks Lid - This does not happen in other configs like HDMI usage oder lower resolution. Do you have any ideas what to do to solve this?
I haven't encountered that so apologies, I'm making educated guesses: 1. It'll sound stupid but I had image issues with a certain HDMI cable. My LG was finnicky about which cables it wanted to work on 2. Sounds like it also might be a communication / software issue. Does it wake when you close the lid, it goes black, then you wiggle the mouse around? 3. Have you tried the HammerSpoon method? That's one of my next video topics - it helps the laptop control the TV / keep them in sync github.com/cmer/lg-tv-control-macos @@ralleur123
You're a godsend, and I confirm this is working on both my Mac Mini M1 and Macbook Air M1. I bought the same HDMI cable and CM Adapter 201388-A. My only struggle was to find a Windows machine with DP Alt Mode. Luckily, my cousin had a laptop with this. Thanks for the guide!
Thanks for the lifesaving video. You might want to pin this message to the top as this can help others: I bought this adapter from Amazon and I received the model number 201388. Before you rush into returning the item and asking for a 201388-A, first download the tool listed in the description of this video and check if the model number shows "VM7100". If it does, you’re safe, no need to return. Just flash the firmware as instructed in the PDF. If it the model shows something else, ask for a return/replacement. I got mine working both on macos and windows. I haven't checked linux, though.
In case anyone else has a problem where they cannot get an output from the adapter after flashing the new firmware, I had to get the flashtool from the microsoft store, use the recovery firmware included in the download (not the one from cable matters website) and then go back and flash the 4k@120hz firmware.
I followed the procedure, flashed and now can't get any output, downloaded the tool from microsoft store but still the same issue, the tool opens and says that no device is connected
@@bassheadlife492 I was using an Apple Thunderbolt Monitor but it stopped working so I bought an Asus 4K monitor and it looked terrible so I bought an Acer 4K. What if I actually just use a Thunderbolt to female DP1.4 adapter and combine it with a DP to HDMI 2.1 cable (both rated for 4k240hz, 32gbps)? Because the M1 has no problem outputting a 4K 144hz signal over DP 1.4 protocol. So if I just "trick" the Mac to output a DP signal instead of HDMI and then do the conversion afterwards by using the DP to HDMI cable, wouldn't I get the same results?
