I think your advice here is spot on. It can't be said enough that the base models of even 2-3 year old Macs are still more than powerful enough for 90% of users out there. Love your thoughts on connectivity too. I think the need for the MagSafe really depends on your use case. My MacBook is docked at my desk 95% of the time where it's connected to a USB-C hub, so I rarely use my MagSafe charger. For someone who regularly takes their MacBook on the go, I could see the MagSafe being super useful...except that they have such great battery life too! 😄
Same, I thought I’d like mag safe and if the battery didn’t last as long I’d probably use it more but the battery still lasts forever so I just use usb c overnight
my mom's macbook pro 2015 is almost as snappy as my macbook air m1 when just doing normal browsing youtube, facebook, playing music & searching on google..
Personally, I prefer Magsafe due to the magnets and the way it doesn't just mean someone can accidentally drag your laptop. On top of that it won't damage the port, unlike the USB-C version when someone might just have something that's slightly too straining.
This is some amazing production for someone with only 1 thousand subscribers. I would rather have watched this video than MKBHD!. Keep up the good work man.
I bought an M1 Pro MacBook Pro in Spring of 2022 and have used it ever since every day. It is a powerhouse for everything I need. I have never had a single hardware or software issue with it. I can easily get through a day to day and a half with the battery with out charging. I love the MagSafe charger. I bought it refurbished too to save some money and it’s one of my favorite purchases. I use my MB more than my iPhone.
Got one MacBook Pro M1 13 inch with 16Gb of RAM and 256Gb SSD in very good condition for 690 EUR, and I am still thinking if it’s a good deal or not 😅, never used macs before, I got a bunch of Thinkpads from T series to P series, I want to use it with my iPad 12.9 M1 and if everything goes ok, I will start thinking about the 14 or 16 MacBook Pros.
Yeah that’s a pretty good deal! Now it’s tough to beat the keyboard on the thinkpad, that thing is freaking amazing for typing! But overall I think my favorite computer of all time is the 14 inch MacBook Pro, so I hope you like the m1!
Same... M1 Max and for everything except for video editing it's great. Apple Silicon sucks balls for things like magic mask or crazy intensive effects. The lack of a dedicated GPU on apple silicon is it's achilles heel sadly. They have done a pretty good job "hiding" it with the on chip video encoders, so rendering and basic cutting is lightning fast. But it's a huge trade off with how slowly it crawls at doing magic mask or mrotoAI. I'm talking an hour and half to track a mask on a 7 min clip
M1 Macbook pro for $500! In the UK, they are still around $1000 used. I just picked up a used 16 inch M1 Pro with 16GB and 1TB for £900, which I think is still a good price. It is good enough for AI engineering (with cloud use for heavy lifting)
What makes you think that adding the MagSafe port somehow reduces the number of USB-C ports like theyl they could have? Do you think there’s not enough space on the side of the computer? Do you think that the chips it won’t allow an extra USPC port because somehow it charging via some propriety Paul?
I use iPads for everything but I keep my 2019 MacBook Pro just in case I run into something iPads can’t handle which has happened a couple of times, not because the iPads are not powerful enough but because iPad OS limits
Yeah man, most people can’t tell the difference between ddr3 and ddr5, I build pcs as well and always have blisteringly fast ram, my wife uses that computer sometimes and has never noticed a difference between that and an M1 Mac
You have the keyboard history a bit wrong there. Old old macs used to have scissor switch keyboards. Sometime after the unibody stuff and race to get thin started they switched to butterfly and stubbornly stuck with it for WAY too long, they were awful with the stuck keys. They simply switched back to the OLD scissor switch keyboard, there's nothing "New" here about it. You give apple too much credit. Same for the HDMI and SD slot.... they used to have those on macs ages ago, they just gave them back.
If I were to buy an 2020 M1 Mac Book Air how many more years would I get out of it. Thats the question nobody is really answering. Ive never owned Apple before and would like to start off small.
@@JonAdamsTech thanks for taking the time to reply mate. Do you think that going for an M1 Pro 16 in 2024 over an M3 Pro (considering that the major factor is that it is a 3nm chip architecture) would be still okay? I am currently having an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2020 with Ryzen 5 4000 series 4600 HS CPU and an Nvidia GTX 1650 ti GPU, 16 gigs of memory and 1 TB storage. so which one do you think is wise to go with for a person like me?
@@JonAdamsTech Shit, I forgot to include that, I am a Graphic Designer and a Photographer from India who works on multiple layers in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom Classic, Figma and Canva, also I am planning to start learning video editing using Adobe's Premier Pro or Davinci Resolve and motion graphics using Adobe After Effects. What do you think, MagSafe or USB-C port?
USB-C. Don’t need a single use cable when one does my laptop, phone, headphones, camera, erc
@@paigelaw5799 Heck ya!
MagSafe. Better one single use port that keeps my dog from ripping the laptop off the table than an extra USB-C port on my broken $2,400 laptop.

Should i ditch my Intel MacBook for M1?
BTW, i would love to have magsafe, its such a laptop saver!
I definitely think it’s worth it. You may want to go with the m2 though just to give you a few more years. Thanks for watching the video!

I believe you have 6 years of support so about two full years left for updates then as long as the computer lasts from then on
Thank you, answer's my question.
What brand backpack you showed in your video?
That was the Peter McKinnon nomadic backpack. The other backpack I use a lot is the goruck GR1
I’d buy one but won’t it just get 3 more years of software updates?
That’s the game you have to play. If you can get a good enough price it’s definitely worth it
Prefer MagSafe on my MacBook but it would’ve been convenient to have a MagSafe USBC. Don’t ask me how it would work but that’s what I want 🤣
There’s some 3rd party companies that did it! Didn’t work all that well but people have attempted haha
can we charge the MacBook Pro 16 with a Type C charger over the Magsafe if I want to?
Yes but you can’t do both at the same time
