    I experienced the same slipping issue. I got a usb-c hub that has a card reader so I don’t have to use the one in the studio. Yes it takes 2 hands to plug something in. But performance of this machine is incredible. Yes I paid for more cores and a memory upgrade but I really don’t think I needed to do that.

    Does the better performance from 1 TB ssd work only when you are using something like FCPX off the internal SSD or even if using a project that is on an external SSD? I bought the 1 TB SSD version Studio Max 2 and waiting for it to arrive but was wondering , My projects are pretty big and with all my apps and plugins on a 1TB SSD drive, I won't have much free space to edit off the internal SSD. So is that performance better with all tasks anyways no matter where my editing projects are located? Thanks for clearing that up..

    I recently graduated college and while my 2017 MacBook Pro got me through, it was painfully slow booting up any Adobe program (After Effect basically unusable). I really wanted a Mac Studio, try out that desktop life, but coming off a student income I opted for the Mac Mini with M2 Pro & have been super happy! It runs Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign amazingly well which is the bulk of my work. I do want to get into Premiere & After Effects more, which the mini may struggle with, but still miles better than what my intel mac was capable of 😅

    I just finished hooking mine up. I order it with a 1TB drive. I love it; quiet, plenty of ports (got rid of my TB4 dock that was attached to my M1Pro MBP) and I saved $$ by tading in my MBP. They gave me $1300, so my out of pocket cost will be $800. I will gladly pay $800 for a M2 MacStudio! Keep up the good videos.

All your media and assets would run smooth (I think the manufacturer is named Acasis). Normally 2/4Tb NVME 2 Gen 4 would be more then enough for me to work around. Late to the conversation but buy a cheap roll of non slip shelf liner (it’s like rubber material will small bulbs) and cut a small circle that fits under the Mac Studio. Will no longer slide and you’ve spent ~USD 1.00 and no gluing or screwing anything to your desk. I did this for my M3 iMac and works like a charm.

    Question for you or for anyone who picked up this model. My Macbook was dying, so I ended up upgrading to this model last week, and it is just excellent and quiet. My main issue has been a 'warm' smell from the back that my wife described as "alkaline." I'm unsure how to describe it, so opt for her description. The first day, I could smell it from my chair (the unit is on the back corner of my desk), but now, after a couple of days of use, I can only smell it if I move right next to the unit. I looked on discussion boards and whatnot, but I haven't found anything about this. Everything runs normally. And some have said this is a 'new computer' smell. I'm wondering if you noticed something similar on your unit?

I just made the switch from a massive Threadripper pc to this tiny beast. Question for you, I am considering going from 3 ultrawide screens to one 4k OLED panel. • @KyleErickson
      @KyleErickson  8 месяцев назад +1

      I would assume looking at that monitor that the issue would've been with the HDMI spec not being able to support the monitor bandwidth. Previous Macs before the M2 Pro/Max/Ultra only supported 4k/60Hz, so I'd assume this would be a problem area. That'd be my assumption anyway, I don't know any specifics as to issues people may have been having.

    Nice review! I got mine about a month ago. M2 Max, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD. Primarily for video editing.
    Similar observation about needing two hands when using the SD card slot. The Mac Studio just slides too easily! So far no problems with it not recognizing SD cards, although an older 2019 iMac I have is quite finicky.
    I have noticed that the left 10Gbps USB port on the front of mine is a bit fussy now and doesn't always recognize external drives. The right port is fine so far. Hopefully this doesn't become an issue.
    Now I need a better monitor. Would love the Mac Studio display, but I still have a Windows machine and need more than a single Thunderbolt input, so still considering my options.

      @@thuytrinhnguyen8497 Yes, After Effects for animation. And mainly 4K footage -- usually 3 or 4 camera shoots editing in Premiere. @kevini8634 7 месяцев назад

      @@thuytrinhnguyen8497 The T7's are great drives, but I ran into situations where the 10gbps transfer speed wasn't fast enough for smooth multicam editing. I ended up getting an external case that supports Thunderbolt, and put a Samsung 980 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD into it.
      Also, previously my main editing computer was a Windows machine where I used T7 drives for footage. Something I found to be VERY important when I switched to the Mac Studio is that you need to format the external SSDs with the APFS file system. Even with a fast drive, if it was formatted as exFAT, the timeline would be very laggy as the Mac hunted for the footage.

      Hey I do similar dev, threeJS, lot of Node some C# / C++ and with Parallels I can test / run on Windows 11 ARM for windows builds. I only have a MBPro M1 w 16GB RAM but it literally never breaks a sweat, no fan, etc with multiple VMs running (fully 3D accelerated in the VMs as well for Win11) and boots my Windows VMs faster than I've ever booted a full-blown Windows custom built server, etc...
      After almost 30 years of dev experience (heavy Windows C/C++ dev and using Windows as my desktop), I switched to this MacBook M1 two years ago and can't believe how much better the entire experience / performance is compared to Windows (desktop or server builds). But, as I'm sure you know, for massive 3D scenes, high-poly / rendering games, you prob would get better results from the AMD cpu + NVD gpu. So, I'm mostly just commenting from the perspective of day to day dev experience performance, building / testing / etc...

    I've had the base M1 Studio Max since it released and am completely satisfied with it, the device exceeds all of my needs, so the M2 must be a beast. I've always had the Studio hard wired to the internet so I don't know if the wireless problem you're experiencing is unique to the M2, but I can say that the speakers in Apple desktops have always been pathetic --- they''re only good for the startup chime.

For the sound issue really I’m not really surprised and understand your point, the internal speaker has always been for the chim to tell u it’s alive! On my g4 etc always had speakers! And when u have headphones it’s just a blast. For the slipping issue well since this is not a tour anymore it can’t stick into place, on the Mac mini ports are in the back and it’s always the same thing but if apple do something to get your computer to stick to your desk people will complain ahahah for sure on the old imac it’s heavier so don’t move that much .. but we are at a time where it’s becoming difficult to find negative things so people always have their own little things, life ain’t perfect but when you see how the computer has evolved it’s outstanding! Imagine people still using G5 tour that are really heavy !!!
