I deeply recommand Mr A's, very good restaurant with an awesome view over downtown SD and the airport.
...sitting on the Carnival Spirit on a low-IFR afternoon waiting to cruise, watching the flights go MISSED - quite entertaining - glad we came in the day before. Bound to have been some folks that didn't make the cruise - circling around up there...
that southwest’s right gear was aligned with the runway line 10/10
Stayed in the holiday inn hotel downtown in San diego, was such a good place to stay being a wingnut! I was so happy when I opened that door and had a perfect overview of planes on app and the runway.
Its one awesome airfield, love KSAN, my home airport!
Really best spotting location on the world! Stunning quality! :O
Notice the vortex bending light at 1:28!
One great spotting point was the roof of Building 26 (The Gray Ghost) on board Naval Regional Medical Center San Diego. We used to joke that if the planes had one more coat of paint, they wouldn't have made it.
It's always fun when spotting and thinking to yourself sometimes that "I can't believe I fly that machine!" Nice video.
Nice video. I lived for many years under the departure path out of KSAN, a special airport!
I soon as I can, I'm close to finishing the video. I'm making sure it is perfect because I can pretty much guarantee this one will attract more views than any other airline pilot videos.
God I love that place!
We used to sneak up on the roof of Building 26 at Naval Hospital San Diego to watch these. One more coat of paint and some of them would have scraped it.
I can't believe this was filmed with a compact camera, awesome!
Never seen the vortices coming off the flap outer edges diffract the light so much before!
Awesome! I noticed you even got the disturbance in the air from one of the 737's flying by! (1:23)
Because that's all there was when I was filming (didn't stay for too long on top of that roof). I filmed a Bonanza but it touched down quite far from the threshold and that was too small in the video frame.
Only one word can describe this... Wow.
super awesome spotting point!! thanks for sharing!
Drove by KSAN for 14 years and never realized how famous it was for crowding and low arrivals until a few weeks ago.
cool
Great place for spotting!:)
Spectacular view point :) greetings from the Caribbean !
Is that a bombardier with a train horn at 0:56 lol
HAHAHA! that. would. be. AWESOME!
So that's what the APU fire horn sounds like!
Nice video! I flew many approaches into SAN. The real shocker is why they allowed a 6 or 7 story garage to be built in the approach plane. Before that the runway didn't have the displaced threshold cutback; it was required for obstacle clearance after the structure was built. Usually arrivals were light enough to easily operate on the reduced available runway. Departures to the west could use all of the runway for line-up and take-off. Once in a while the breeze off of the Pacific would stop and if it was IFR with East winds (usually in the AM) the departures would be to the east. That was mostly a show stopper since most jets couldn't meet second segment climb milestones in the WX over the garage and the hills. If the easterly winds were less than 10 knots (max tailwind for most transport jets) and the weight and performance permitted a downwind departure you would sit at the line up end of the west runway for up to 30 minutes until approach could build a hole in the flow for a wrong way take-off. Tear down that garage!
because of america's irrational addiction to cars
Je m'étais fait engueuler comme pas possible en montant dans ce parking, tu l'as échappé belle !
Do yourself a favour and don't bother replying to comments like that one. Nice video. Left a video response of the spot I go to at Adelaide Airport, I live just around the corner and go there often when I have the time. I think you'd like it. It's awesome when the big birds come in. We used to have a 747 come in once a week, I always wanted to go there to film it, unfortunately the flight was scrapped before I ever did, big regret.
Sensationally EPIC!!! greetings from Canada
Such a great place to spot planes!
Loved it ! Favorited !
Hi Peter, this is a small compact camera: the Sony HX9v.
Overall it does a pretty good job. It's now been replaced by the slightly improved Sony HX20v. By far the best compact camera I've ever owned.
I just spent two months in San Diego and now wish I took the time to Planespot. I did get to watch some fly overhead at Balboa Park though!
He you make great well made videos!!!
sounds gooddd, bravo !
Awesome great job
I've seen a lot of aviation videos, this is probably the best yet. May I ask what type of camera. Best wishes from Melbourne Australia

Total lenght is 2866m, but only 2314m is available for landing on RWY27.
I just uploaded a video of my departure from SAN just recently on a United Airlines Boeing 737-800 to SF. First of many more to come
one of them was taxing off, one was crossing it, and one was lining up
Super! Good place for spotting. What is the length of runway?
GO up to balbou park and the Air plane musemu. there is a great spoot.
80kts v1 vr v2... positive rate of climb gear up, select LNAV select VNAV autopilot on..... after t/o cheklist
looks like the centerline was out of service on that southwest landing ;)
hello ok we're happy Christmas and your video more special and outstanding cuidate thanks friend ..! and the well pasate
If you love the sounds, go to singapore, there's airport like that. Too bad Kai tak closed though...
That would be a glide 'path.'
what a great spot for airplane geeks like me
Because of the approach, San Diego requires that the first officer must land the airplane.
Les pistes sont super larges ! J'avais jamais remarqué les différences de largeur, elles sont un peu plus étroites en France non ? Genre à Orly ou CDG ?
Belle vidéo en tout cas !
cool
You are filming from the Laurel Travel Center roof, right?
I’ve wanted to do that. Are you on Hawthorn Street?
