I watched the filming at the the TNL building, when Shaker escapes through the roller door. If I remember, the film crew and actors were onsite there from Saturday till Monday.
I watched this movie over a dozen times. My dad bought me a used Toshiba VCR back in 1990 and included two movies which one was Shaker Run. Now watching it I see how real movies where back than compared to now. I love the sounds of the Firebird. I want to buy this movie in Dolby Digital and hook up the surrounds to my 7ch. Yamaha Natural Sound receiver to watch it with my kids.
I ran across this movie way back when at a Blockbuster Video. I never heard of it, but it sounded cool so I figured I'd give it a try. Best $3.00 spent ever!
Thanks for posting. I remember watching this as a kid. The actress looks a bit car sick in some of those shots. Also I notice nobody seems to say "souped up" anymore !!
I watched the filming as a kid at the TNL building in Blenheim, remember how shaker jumps through the open roller door, a guy was sitting to the right on of the platform loading edge eating Sammy's. family spent Saturday and Sunday watching this filming. I recall Dad telling me, he was working away in the home workshop one Saturday and kept hearing this V8 being worked up, he went for a drive to investigate and came back excited and announcing that a movie was being shot just up the road.. True Story, after that 2 day scene they packed up and filmed the Koromiko scene where the big explosion happened. I'm Gareth from Blenheim, born and Bred. i didnt know the name of this film and have only seen it once. i remembered just one line from the film - "i think its a capri, but its been souped up" - which i typed into google.. this youtube page appeared as the 3rd result, giving me the name of the film and showing me the exact scene i remembered and from which the one line (ten words) came. HOW THE HELL DOES THAT HAPPEN??!!!! Thanks, "the internet" - yoouuurrrrreeee GREAT! ;-)
I remember this and Battle Truck and Race for the Yankee Zephyr.... golden NZ action movie moment times.. great films - The Quiet Earth and Goodbye Pork Pie my favorite though
Well considering the trans am is technically a stunt car not a stock car like the carpi it doesn't surprise me especially since from the close up pictures I have seen of the trans am its on the vintage BFG bias ply tires and the stock car is most likely on actual racing slicks. The suspension and tires would definitely make it handle better and the motor is most likely got twice the power. I still love the trans am and I wouldn't mind building one using a late model stock car chassis and cage but still street legal
No its definitely a Lada, the New Zealand Dairy Board sold the old USSR cheese and butter back in the 8p's and the Russians not having US$ to pay for it sent ladas which were then sold by the New Zealand Dairy Board.... Lada Nivas and Cossacks, which were very popular with the farmers of New Zealand as they were cheap, reliable and lasted for ever
I got it on Amazon, but the quality of the picture is horrible. I think someone just downloaded the movie from RUclips in 240p and burned it on a disc. Let's say I was really disappointed by it. 10/10 movie in 1/10 quality. I don't know if there is an official high quality DVD/Blu Ray release.
@@thatmaninblack | Keep in mind this movie was made and produced in New Zealand. The film stock and cameras they used were not as good as a movie made in Hollywood, which can explain why the production values are not up to par with 1985. And also explains why the picture quality makes it look like it came from the 1970s.
I remember those Sigmas that the car salesman points the guy to at 3:50 could really haul the mail too, The traffic cops used to use those as their pursuit cars on the motorways back in the day
Just wondering.... The scene in Wellington as they drive left out of the tunnel...it looks like (insert close up) that Cliff is actually driving, and at some speed... Had another look 25/11/20... Seriously, looks pretty genuine, Is it possible that the car was on a trailer and Cliff was mimicking/acting? I would like someone to come forward on this. Cliff was a Brilliant actor, but what was his driving skills like? He's either really doing the driving or just a bloody good actor. I do know from what I've been told is that he did drive Shaker in the movie but in what scenes? I couldn't say. I'm sure He was very capable.
These year Trans am s we're not Fast. !! NICE! Car's nothing like that 75 or 76 Trans am s I had a 75 orange with tan interior no t tops 6.6 that car FLEW!! Cud only imagine how a 4 speed was.
@@CycolacFan Yep, that and a whole lot of other cars, the body design was arguably more advanced than lotus as it was lighter and stronger. It was from an era where there were high taxes on imported cars into NZ so making something like this was viable, as soon as tax was removed and the used Japanese car imports started the project was all over..
"We're supposed to be heading *north*!" Well you *would* be heading north on the Hutt motorway if the camera hadn't immediately cut to you mysteriously heading *south* through the Terrace Tunnel... :-)
Trans am is fiber body on cut down and modified Holden HQ floor pan, two cars were built for movie. One had 350 chev and other had 400 chev, one car went to Japan when movie was released there other one has disappeared. Am building a replica of movie car again with fiber body and Holden floor pan and advice from the guy who built the movie cars Tom Morland
Just rewatched this movie after like 25 years.. And still these 2 are the best sounding cars ever on film!!
4:26. The sound of that 350 Chev cutting through the valley brings me back every time.
Thats one of the best car salesman I've ever seen lol. Hillarious.
One of my favorite movies from my childhood! :-)

What a sweet owner telling carjack thief to drive safely.😂
3:48 And doing a sales pitch to a customer (after he was shoved/injured by the thief) like that was any normal day...

A true kiwi classic..... the car salesman cracks me up everytime "drive carefully" lol, where can i get this to watch in full?
Godspeed Jnr , found a copy at warehouse
nice one will have to check it out.
When he says now thats the sort of guy who needs a car like that ..
This car was not a firebird it was a kit car with a fibreglass body over a pretty serious stunt car tube chassis
You're telling me that you could buy a damn racecar from an Australian dealership?
Have I just seen an Austin allegro. Lol
Great movie. RHD Firebird/Camaro too ;-) Funny how is struggled to outrun a Holden Panel van. Still a fun movie.
It was a holden with a fibreglass body...
Shaker can't quite hug the turns like the Capri.

They were going soooooo freaking fast i fell asleep
Faark is that Leif Garrett? Love the V8 sound.
Its Henry Ford driving like a mad man lol
Car dealers do not keep their showroom cars fully fueled and ready to roll. In fact they don’t even start.
Classic movie, brings back memories:) Is that a Lada at 1:55? Never knew they’ve been exported to New Zealand:)
Probably the Fiat upon which the Lada was based

New-Zealand
Open her up, Casey.
I remember those Sigmas that the car salesman points the guy to at 3:50 could really haul the mail too, The traffic cops used to use those as their pursuit cars on the motorways back in the day
They used V3000's,which superseded the Sigma in 1988.Same bodies,just a 3.0 V6 instead of the 2.0 4 cylinder.Much much quicker car.Owned a few.
nope they used sigmas as well. Like you said same bodies, but they used the gsr trim model with the sohc turbo 4g63t
My granddad owned a sigma when I was little so think of it as a granddad car. We had a Mitsubishi Tredia Turbo in the 1980's :o)

I'd say he was very capable, he owned and flew some WW2 fighter planes ,people that do that are generally very capable.
Really?? A Ford Capri with a 350 V8 in it?
The presence of those ugly Utes means this MUST be Australian or Kiwi....
WTF? Mad Max Night Rider bonnet scoop😲👍😁
76-early78 firebird (has the small Hurst t-tops) with a 79 nose with the headlights and taillights changed.
It also has the bonnet scoop from a 1982-on Firebird.
how old is this movie? The guy is using a revolver. Today in more modern times they would be using a pistol / automatic.
