Thank you for the video. It is very comprehensive on the effort involved to do this project. Painful that Toyota made the thermostat so hard to change. Waterpumps always a project.
my water pump making just noise, its not leaking and AC is not ice cold.So should i only Replace water pump or the whole thing ,serpentine belt,Tensioner, idler pulley,Thermostat as you did. Please let me know. Thanks
I would just do the water pump and the belt. I would just inspect all the other parts. For the ac go buy a can of freon with a gauge. You can plug the gauge in and see if your freon is low.
thanks, wish you would have actually shown doing the work though and not just pointing to the general area after the fact. But do appreciate the list of parts.
Thanks for the video! I’m getting the grinding noise and believe it to be one of the pulleys. Your video definitely shows is to be a little easier. The idler in other videos, they remove the grill and radiator. I wondered if there was room to do it without. The AC pro is all you need to recharge the AC system? No previous experience with that.
My tensioner was still fine, nothing was wrong with it. The reason I changed my tensioner cause it starts to loose its tension over time. Not sure if there was a easier way to remove the tensioner without removing the ac. But ya when everything is back together just get a can of ac and recharge it.
good man....with out a lift to lift the car i have a 2012 sienna im having the belt changed.... i bought it with 78 000 miles now has 114 i wonder how long it will last before things start to go like water pump alternator and stuff.
@@michaelswank8685 I replaced mine. The outside diameter of the pulleys are the same, but the inside and ball bearings are different. The tensioner pulley spring arm can go bad and may need replacing if it no longer provides tension to the drive belt. But if all you hear is a grinding noise, then the ball bearings are bad. The price for the idle pulley was $48 if I remember correctly, but the ball bearings are only $5. I ended up buying two different size ball bearings for $10. They have a number written on the side to tell you exactly which one you need. It was labor intensive, but I saved a ton of money and that gave me a lot of satisfaction. Good luck!
Mine is making noise when AC is on and the compressor is starting to work/ working. Which is to recognize by the fact, that the radiator is starting too. Did you manage to simply get the tensioner pulley out to replace the ball bearings? Or did you have to remove the whole tensioner including the mounting and the arm? How long should it take? Do I simply push the tensioner counterclockwise all the way to the passenger, the put sth in the hole to hold it in place and then turn the bolt holding the pulley clockwise to remove it or is it more complicated?
Yes I have the v6. If you doing just the water pump it's easier but if you replacing the tensioner its more longer. So I say about 2h water pump and 4 hour tensioner/ water pump.
Thanks for showing the bleeding of the heater core and the comments about no heat. That is part of my problem too.
The bleeder valve wow i need to see if my wifes highlander has it, takes ten minutes to heat up shes gettin crazy about it.
Thanks for showing where to put the allen key! I looks like its a pain. I appreciate your making a video to share.
I own an older Sienna model with the same noise. You gave me a good idea of removing the belt and test all the bearings by hand👍.

Great job with this video. Helps a lot. Thank you.
Thanks for posting.
Thank you very much for the video,it was big help for me.
Don't release the refrigerant into the atmosphere. It needs to be recaptured
My sienna 2017 w 52k miles making same noise but just water pump bearing was damage other parts are good expensive car with cheap parts

Sig220Euro. Thanks. Needed it to finish quickly.
Good job!
What was the mileage on the car when your water pump failed?
69.000
I would replace all those 2 to save future issues. Whats the mileage?
I did this at 69,000mi
Do not mess with the AC refrigerant unless you know how to put back the right amount of.
I did put back the right amount. Still have the van and AC works great.

All of these happened on 69xxx miles Van? hmmm...I may have to watch over mine...
Ya just the water pump was making noise. Everything else was fine.
Not sure if this question makes sense but, can't you just remove the tensioner pulley by removing the center bolt in it?
Yes but I wanted to replace the tensioner.
@@SwimmingintheDeep I was told that the tensioner can loose tension over time.
Hi, I wanted to change just the pulley on the tensioner not the whole assembly. Are the idler pulleys the same as the pulley on the Tensioner?
I'm not sure.
Did you ever find out?
@@psosa98 nope.. but when I do the water pump in the spring.. I bought an extra pulley in case

My water pump just started making this noise and it straight up broke off.
At what mileage?
Andrey Andreychuk about 75k
how long does it take to do this job? Is it a 3.5L engine?

I can't believe you have to remove the Compressor?
You need to fix my car lol
I cannot for the life of me get that bolt out that scratched up your paint ..
Ya I remember that bolt. I think I unscrewed one of the mounts? Or try jacking up the motor and see if it will give you more room to slide it out.
Ok
My Toyota Highlander 2017 on 84000 water pump broke that is BS no more Toyota plz
It cost me 1200$
Honda?
@Shawn Kemp I still have this Sienna so far still good. Has 86,000mi.
What was the mileage on the car when your water pump failed?
70k
What’s the issue of your water pump, why did you change it,is it leaking?
