I just spent nearly two weeks in Penang on my fifth visit. Georgetown is far and away my fav city in SEAsia. Were it not for the prohibitively expensive residence visas, I would have moved there already. You've got Taiping, Alor Setar, Ipoh, Hat Yai, Songkhla, Langkawi all within a day's trip. Direct flights to Bangkok, Saigon, Hanoi, SG, etc. For me, the best option for urban living in the region.
If you not yet leave Penang, please come 530am Morning to queue up in the cable car station and 6am take the first cable car up to Penang Hill, 7am if not cloudy / no fog you gonna enjoy the sunrise on top of the hill. After the sunrise you can go to the Kopi Hutan cafe (they have free cab to fetch you to the cafe) enjoy their coffee and cakes for your breakfast.
Josie.. Even the public buses services is the best in Malaysia. Every buses is link to Google map. It shows you the time and every stops on google once you get onboard. So its really good for tourist ise
you are right josie.. both dishes, char kway teow and pad thai are somewhat similar but very different, especially in terms of flavour. there are some who say pad thai is thai chinese fusion, but its still uniquely very thai though. char kway teow finds its origins within the chinese community in south east asia, and doesn't exist in china.
Nice vid. George Town is one of my fave places - the Kek Lok Si temple complex is amazing! Penang Hill is impressive enough ..if you get there. And CKT is one of the world's great dishes :) Great food and street art all over GT. I particularly liked Larong Stewart and the Indian Quarter. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I think you're right- your Mum mightn't like being called 'a little older' 🙂 But I'm sure she's very happy and proud that you are off seeing the world and making such great memories on video. I bet she enjoys watching every single one!
Hi! Still watching your vlogs even if you're now in Malaysia. Char Kuey Tiaw & Nasi Lemak are my favorite Malaysian food. Take care & keep safe always.
Love Penang! I had the wonderful opportunity of attending university there some years ago. The food and people have my heart! Glad you enjoyed it, and I was personally satisfied and proud of your reaction to eating char kuay teow haha. It's a simple noodle dish with vegetables, prawns and chinese sausage, but the flavour is explosive and lots of skill is required when frying with the wok for that signature 'wokhei'. Wish you could have experienced Penang Hill at night though! The night view of the city lights and sea is amazing. :)
After watching your video I would put George Town as the top tourist attraction in Malaysia. The streets have many amazing heritage buildings, street art, murals that are not usually seen and it is very relaxing to enjoy the city on foot. The Buddhist temple is stunning and a great place to get a beautiful view of the city. Your food is really tasty and tempting, especially the way it is prepared is another reason for the popularity of the place.
If you're up for some nature in Penang, head down south to Balik Pulau and stay at Malihom Estate for a night or two. It's absolutely stunning. Can also check out Kampung Agong ❤

Hello Josie and Michael, i hope you guys enjoyed your stay and yes, i do love your contents. Please stay hydrated and safe. Weather is kinda brutal these days. Keep it up and will continue support your channel !
Char Kuey Tiaw is something you can't miss if you go to Penang. It is indeed resembling Pad Thai, but Pad Thai is slightly sweet with crushed peanuts. But CKT is more charred and drier than Pad Thai. The green you saw may not be sweet onion/scallion, it could be chives (we called it kucai) which is usually fried in penang CKT. The way chinese fried their CKT is like what you had, dry and charred with cockles. Our malay style CKT is wetter with gravy and tastes sweeter and more peppery. Since you're in Penang, perhaps you should also try Penang Tambun Biscuits and Hneoh Pneah (hee-oh pee-ah, though local pronounce it in a nasally voice).
Don't worry.... We like your video.... Hehe... Thanks for making vlogs about our country.... So that other travellers can visit our lovely home... Seriously, you have done a good job... Like I'm personally like your vlogs... Thanks and really appreciate it...

Buy the Penang hill fernicular ticket online and buy the fast lane one. I did that a few of months a go. It was after new year. So the crowd was worse than what you saw haha. We drove their, picked up our fast lane ticket at the counter (there's even a line for picking up fast lane ticket.). We were on top of Penang Hill less than an hour later.
Just back from penang few days ago. On the 1st attempt to go up penang hill, the Q was so long. Then we buy online fast lane ticket for the next day. The fast lane ticket is a bit pricey compare to the normal ticket but it really worth it. Hope u enjoy ur stay in Malaysia and do keep upload new content always. TQ
Josie first thanks for sharing your Penang trip video. Amazing as usual. You seems to be always very happy which is good. My best wishes to your mum and Mike’s mum. Hope they get back their health soon. Yes health is very important. Anyway love the char Kwai tew and no wonder there’s a long queue. Yes if you see long queue with the locals you know that the food is good. Anyway I hope you will continue to enjoy your trip to Malaysia. Ouch too bad you didn't get to go up penang hill the day you planned to, but as michael said you still have a few more days in penang, you two will make it! 👍 Try to go early though, it gets more crowded beginning 9am onward. But first don't forget breakfast, either have a quick one at/near the hotel you're staying in or pack it to bring up the hill. Oh and don't forget to bring a bottle of mineral water too. And your coffee. Or milo 😊 I myself brought along several packets of instant milo to england, just in case I couldn't find which stores sell milo fast enough. Then I discovered tesco superstores do, but not tesco express
