I bought a stripmeister a couple years ago, got about 600 lb thru it and am still on my first blade, bought it because it’s made in Canada, great product
I got over two years and a couple thousand lbs with my first blade then would run a honing sharpener on it while it was running wire to keep it sharp then finally splurged on the new blade. Did a bunch of that old house wire with the paper/asphalt coating on it and as you would expect destroyed that blade lol made in Canada 🇨🇦 for sure best quality
Cheap Stripmeister Upgrades (off the top of my head): 1 - Mount it to a tabletop. Will make a huge difference for it to not tip and slip and shuffle around on you. 2 - Take apart your corded drill (or a wrecked drill) and remove the trigger assembly. It'll probably be a triac-based phase-fired controller that chops of up your AC, super simple, only be 3 obvious wires. Make an extension for those 3 wires and build this into a foot pedal (folded bit of sheet steel or plywood and a hinge, with switch at the back). Now you're not leaning awkwardly to the side to make it spin, or using one hand just to pull the trigger. You should be more than 2x as fast controlling the wirefeed with your foot and having two hands to control the wire angle and tension. And of course mount your drill securely to the same baseplate (or just grab a motor, but, hard to argue with the max $10 you'd have to spend for a garage sale old B&D drill with an annoying keyed chuck). 3 - Replace top knob with slightly bigger knob with a speed handle for fast adjustment (like the control knobs on a lathe, but with the handle part closer to the middle). Or, add a second motor (cheap powered screwdriver) vertically to control this knob, and on a separate foot pedal trigger. Two hands, two feet, lightning fast operation. 4 - Add a big eyelet to the edge of your baseplate, which'll be like, 8" in front of the stripper. It's a tiny bit slower to feed your wire through this first, but 20x safer. There is no such thing as a safe powered wirefeed. Eventually your hands *will* get sucked into the machine while it's running. Better to slam against the eyelet than straight into the knurled rollers.
You can get a foot pedal from harbor freight for $10 which works exactly like you said but the drill just plugs into it and can be used for hundreds of uses. no need to cut anything up
I couldn't agree more!! I've had my StripMeister over 3 years now, run thousands of pounds through it, and haven't had to change the blade yet!! By far the BEST money I have ever spent!!!

One of the most valuable videos you have ever done! I did a *lot* of research before buying my Stripmeister. Still on the same blade. And yes I DO strip 18gauge speaker wire.....because it's fun! PS: the advice of MattsAwesomeStuff is golden as I have done point 1,2 and 4 myself. Thank you.
I’m an electrician. I have the smaller strip leister and I have run approximately 1000lb of wire through it. It has made me a lot of money. Great purchase for $180
Also tip for you. I don’t run romex through mine (as in I don’t strip the sheathing off on the stripper) I haven’t had much luck with it but I’ve found it much easier to just strip the sheathing by hand. Not hard at all with the know how and experience.
I’ve wondered that, I did notice the smallest ones had some of the insulation getting drawn down underneath and I worried it would start to gum it up. Not good money for the time it takes anyhow
I have to thank you so much for making this video. I bought a Vevor stripper a week ago, having done minimal research. I figured most wire strippers would work the same or at least be comparable to more expensive ones. When I used the Vevor machine I wanted to shoot it out of a cannon into the sun. Incredibly frustrating cheap piece of garbage. I just received my Stripmeister today and, having only used it for 5 minutes, I’m in love with it. It works buttery smooth every time and had I not watched this video I never would’ve got it. Thanks man 👍
I have had a stripmeister for a couple years. Absolutely awesome. I have stripped wire that just barely fit through the largest hole down to the speaker wire that he shows. No issues. It takes a bit of learning to set it up right for each size but once you figure how it feels, you’ll do that in seconds. I have probably stripped several miles of solid copper and aluminum and the first blade shows no signs of wear. If you look closely at the Chinese blade in this video when he is talking about the grip wheels, it already has wear on it…. Also something not pointed out here, if you set the Romex wire properly, it not only cuts the outside case, it will also strip through one of the 2 insulated wires at the same time. That way you only have one wire left to strip on the second pass…. Buy this product. You will not regret it. Also, mount it on a bench, not a vise, it’s too hard on your drill chuck if the drill is hanging off. And probably hard on the mandrel bearing of the unit too…
I’ve had a Stripmeister e250 for a few years now and it’s an amazing machine! Paid for itself over and over, they just need to make one now with a bottom blade to double cut 👌🏼

I bought that little Stripmeister, mounted it to a table and attatched a holehawg drill to it also mounted to the table. When it is set right, it works like a dream. Some wire seems to be too small so I dont do the little stuff. Running the wire thru twice can make a big difference. Im about 300lbs. stripped. I love the process and outcome.
Thanks so much for this video. It was really instructive. Whilst we don't have the stripmeister in Australia, you have given me a lot of ideas about what I should be looking for in a stripper.
Thank you for the review. I was on the fence about which one to buy. The lower price of some of the others was very tempting. Now I know which one to buy.
I just purchased a CREWORKS Manual Wire Stripper Machine, 0.06"-1" for $60 including tax on Amazon. I first purchased a $20 hand stripper, which my hands hate me for. This CREWORKS was my best investment. It is solid and sturdy. I do suggest lubing it.
Now, with stripping the wires, as you first feed it through, attach something to where you have the wire on one side and the housing on the other side, that way it separates it as you're stripping it, then you just have it separated already. Great video, wire stripping videos are my favorite for some odd reason!!!
2 by 4 with several different size holes drilled it it. a drywall screw mounted in each hole as the cutting die. works like a dream. ive been using this method for years. mount it to your table or wall or smething when u pill wire thru it.
I own the other one, branded Vevor. Once you go through the learning curve, it's still faster than manually stripping each conductor, and $80 isn't all that bad. There is an improvement on it since yours, the feed wheel has the actual grooves like the Meister. I've found feeding the conductor below the blade height with the curvature of the feed wheels works well like a V-belt pulley works. I also didn't realise the Stripmeister was a Canadian company.
Ditto. Much trial and frustration but yes, I feed the wire lower down. Also grade the wire by thickness so I only have to set the cut depth once on each thickness.
I have the China made for three yrs now. All I can say is why spend that $100 it costed to ship when you can use that for quality. But what I learned with the China boy: 1 bolt it down to a table. 2 use the crank instead of a power source. 3 get rid of that guid plate and just use your hands to guide the wire. My China boy also kicked the wire off to the side so that’s why I got rid of the guide plate. Plus the V wheel dose not grip the vinyl so well when using the drill, it seems to spin more than pull. But on a budget I say keep on saving for the better stripmiser or another Canadian base stripper called copper mine. Thanks thub for this review.
I would like to thank you for this video. While I didn't get the stripmester I got the vevor electric powered one during black Friday deals. And while yes I was having trouble at first. But your suggestion of watching their videos on how to set up the cheaper machine, well I decided to do the same... and it helped me tremendously to get it at least working like it should. And it appears to have the same type of design on the backplate now. I have a bin full of wire from installing car audio and clipping power tool wires when tools burnt out. So hopefully it pays out. 🙏
if your going to spend this much time stripping wire, I recommend getting a wire stripper with a 1/2hp motor attached. the one i use has 12 different insert slots for different gauge wire. much easier to handle
Did you ever choose either of them? I was looking at both manufacturers like you. I was looking at either e250 from stripmeister or bluerock 808 model .
He’s right , seriously good production quality and just a humble , down to earth kind host. Really enjoy your vibe and style . Would love to have a friend like you . Take care of yourself buddy , love from Southern Ontario, Niagara Region. If you are ever in my area holla let’s go for beers would love to show you around town !
The stripmeister is the best stripper in my book. I've been able to strip down to a 20 gauge wire. You only have to score the sheathing not cut thru it. I've stripped wire with it for 2 years and I'm still on the original blade. Well worth the money.
I've been debating buying a stripper haha I'm in the US but if I couldn't buy a comparable USA made one I love Canada and would be happy to support you all.
I don't know why I found that "and a piece of scrap metal" for the hand crank so funny, but I even showed my mom and had to first explain why I was watching a video of a guy stripping. Good job on the review!
I have E250 and love it. One of the best investments I have made for scrap processing. Whenever I change wire sizes, I cut a short piece to use for setting the blade depth.
Thank you for doing this video i was looking at a cheap model off ebay im taking your advice i save my money for the stripmeister I'm new to scrapping I've learned alot from you i appreciate all the videos
Man, I found that the Copper mine manual/drill driven setup is one superior piece of equipment for people who aren't doing major wires or a whole hell of a lot of wire at one time. I got one for Christmas from my girlfriend and have made 6 times back the price she paid for it. It also has two blades, two different setups for different sizes and one of the blades come with adjustable side shields for different size wires to prevent slipping.
I made the cheap purchase and now regret it. The fight with wire feeding is real. I wish I would have waited and invested in the quality product. Thanks for the review.
I have the powered version of the C0-Z stripper. Fortunately I purchased it for a low price on Amazon. Decided to try it based on another review. And I 100% experienced all the frustrations that you did with the unit. I feel your pain.
Most of my scrapping is wire stripping so I strip whatever fits through the stripper without getting chewed up by the blade. I have an electric drill connected to my stripper and it really speeds things up however I still manually strip the thicker stuff because the drill can't handle it. Better still, the drill I use with my stripper was found while scrapping
Thank you for this video I've watched alot of your videos and they have helped out a lot with separation and identifying scrap but I literally was about to buy the vevor brand like tomorrow and remembered I saw this video when I wasn't gonna buy one so I didn't watch it and decided to B4 I purchased the vevor and I'm so thankful I'd rather spend $200 and save time than save $100 and waste it and for that I appreciate it alot!!
Eh like the new shop! 😁 Keep up the good videos... Hamilton 🇨🇦 I've borrowed a friend's stripmister and have been able to strip the smallest wire due to , being able to adjust my feed hole "down" at the same time as using the drill to catch the wire. I strip just about everything now except for computer harness practically. Come to think of it, I was able to pull a speaker wire in 2, then run it through also. That had to be close to a 1/16.
@@thubprint ..So I got a job cleaning out a house, and so far we have 3 large garbage cans, and 3 totes full of extension cords! I was running one of the larger cords thru the stripper and noticed that the back plate had split and started bending in the direction of the (wire out). Guess I just bought it! ☹
I totally agree, I own the cheap one and I'm not impressed with it. You called it exactly, the gripping on the wheel sucks. It is diffucult to keep it from slipping out of the groove and ending up on the side of the cutting wheel, especially with thinner wire. Bad design all around. You're spot-on with your critique. Love you videos. 🙂
When doing small cables place the small hole on the cable guide on bottom just so that you guide the cable up and over the rollers I found out by trial and error very frustrating at first but now runs like a dream and goes down to 1mm easypeasy.
I'm a sparky and I support you in your stripping also. Thanks for this review . I'll be getting a stripmeistet. I could see you struggling with the vevor model well before you gave up on it.
The bigger one comes with a guide to prevent it rolling out so easily. But it sometimes happens on twisted cable I just have to hold it up in the back to keep the slack from pulling it sideways. I've stripped 1500 lbs just today with it and I damaged the blade but a quick sharpen and it's as good as news.
I went and bought the blue no name motorized wire strippers you see everywhere for about $175us. Had it for years. I have both hands free to dig through the wire pile, and can just keep feeding wire into it non stop because it's always on. I don't have to hold the trigger. Your model looked like it works pretty good. But if your going to be stripping a lot of wire, I would recommend the motorized/hands free one for under $200us. Best money I ever spent. Paid for itself first day.
Was beginning to wonder why you hadn't put out a video in a bit - you were spending all your time trying to get that cheap amazon stripper to work! Stripmeister all the way. I took a motor I found, added an controller and it blasts through the wire. Tip - sort your wire into sizes/types as your largest time killer is the resetting of the cutting wheel and guides. Going back and forth between them just wastes time.
I’ve used the cheap Amazon stripper for a about a year now and the biggest issue I had was the wire slipping off the wheel. If I had the money for a strip mister I’d buy one right now.
Got a strip meister a couple years ago for Christmas and I love it. My only issue was some times on smaller wires they tend to ride up out of the groove but other than that great
Yeah, me too. I try and strip smaller wire that we probably shouldn't be wasting out time stripping. But i need something to do when relaxing in the garage having a beer and listening to music.
George try lowering the guide so the wire is being pulled up at an angle for small gauge wire, It helps to seat the wire down into the drive rolls so it doesn't wonder out of position. That helped me alot using mine.
I have the bigger one and it took me a few times to figure it out, but if you feed the wire to be stripped from the BOTTOM (adjust the plate accordingly), and this forces pressure on the wire being fed, adjust the blade as necessary for the wire. Works like a champ even with the very small multi strand electrical cord wires. Don't line up the hole evenly with the blade, drop the hole down some to create a little tension.
I clamp my stripmeister in a vise. I always use my battery operated drill. I rotate the entire drill by hand to feed the wire into the machine. Back and forth a time or two to get the desire scoring on the sheathing. Then run the drill until 4"-6" of the sheathing is scored. Then take a utility knife and slice the sheave to start peeling it. Then I can peel the sheathing as I run the wire thru the machine. Someday I will mount a peeler stud up thru the mounting hole on the base of the machine. I've tinkered with a bolt there but it needs to be grounded into a wedge shape where the wire meets it. The trick is to peel the same size wire at a time. Romax wire I always clamp in a vise and peel the ground wire out first before I run the others thru the machine. The stripmeister is fast and efficient.
I personally bought the cheaper machine and those are the same issues I was having with it. The cable would always go to the side and I'll have to stop and adjust it. It was really annoying. Thank you for the demo on the well built machine, I will be buying o e very soon.
I got the stripmeister base model 2 years ago for $170-180 + shipping and running the quick math it paid for itself in less than 2 weeks; and clearly I was being lazy. 2 Years later I still haven't yet needed to change the blade and I only have 2 complaints. 1) though feed grooves can get gummed up with paint chips and dust, and the only method I've found to clean them is to trace each groove with the tip of my pocket knife (and if I don't it leads to some annoying jamming issues). 2) I can atripp anything smaller than 18 gage wire and occasionally I get in 20 gage wire lol. Oh and it has a hard time with MCM that's 3/4 inch diameter. If those are the only two problems in two years of use I'd say this is the best out there and well worth the expense.
excellent video, exactly the info a scrapper needs, a stripper that doesn't fight you, and gets the job done quickly. spending extra for something that works way better is the way to go... and very timely for me, cords and wire piling up everywhere, i need a stripper in a bad way.
Thank you! A lot of people commented thinking I was favouring one over the other as though I was being dishonest. The reality is the cheap one does kinda suck haha, I just wanted to show why! All the best to you as well 👍
I bought my stripmeister 2 years ago also and still haven't changed my blade as well. Even stripping extension cords or vacuum cords are easy to strip.
Yes, the Chinese stripper's knurled wheels don't have not enough grip. I have the Chinese model with motor and the wire guides are in front. I think you might be using it backwards. I don't use the guides anyway and have to push /pull the wire too with the wire. It doesn't cut through or the cutting wheel depth changes because the threaded rod has slack. I did a lot of mods on mine mostly electrically.
the stipper on 2:00 i have other brand but its works ;) and its about you handel it, mine works fine and you have to know how its works that is the problem and i know it, kan film it if you whant great video
I am in favor of the stripmeister. now I just need the funds to buy 1😣 thanks for showing the difference between the two it is a big difference. I enjoy your videos 😊
The one is just so much easier than the other! I realize the comparison could’ve been more fair but this was still an accurate representation of my experience with both, and I believe anybody else would find the same
I have had the E250 for a couple of years now, works good. Wish I had of bought the larger version though. I have not checked the blade, I probably should !
Yup, the crew works stripper (on the left) doesn't work as well as it should, just as mine does. I was searching YT for that very confirmation. Found it here. However, based on the Amazon link in this video's description, the inner split wheel on the smaller unit, on the right, looks almost like the same style of wheel/teeth as the crew works on the right at 10:46 So, how would that work out any better?
I have the cheap one and it needed adjusting. The blade wobbles and the traction on the drive pulling wheels was not very good. A couple of shims on the blade shaft fixed the wobble and a file fixed the traction drive wheel. I also made an improved version of the feed plate with several more wire sizes and one hole just for 12-14 awg Romex. Total cost was $ 69.00 free shipping for the stripper 16 cents for the shims with 8 extras in the package for later if the installed ones wear out. I already has the file in a small file set. The metal for the wire guide was a piece of scrap so free again. Total cost of the upgrade is 16 cents. so I have a cheap wire stripper that works just great almost zero jams and wire strips first pass. I strip power cords for computers in a single then adjust the wire guide and blade height and strip the 18 awg wire inside in one pass as well. Nothing is perfect but 69. bucks and 16 cents for parts against over 400 dollars American is a huge difference. BTW it took several hours of time to make the adjustments. Thanks for the video. We all can see the pro Canada point of view in the video.
I have the cheap one, and no it's not the quality of the stripmiester. However I've got down pretty good. Always feed in the large hole. Might it at the edge of the bench toward you. Pull down on the wire as feeding it in, which pulls the wire down into the "v" rollers. Use a 18v or more drill. It's not perfect but it will work.
I have one of the cheaper ones. the best way to get it all to feed correctly is you have to separate all the wires by size. this makes it much easier to run wires because you don't have to constantly keep adjusting the adjustment plates. however, the adjustment plates are key to speeding up the process. if you put the correct gauge wire in the correct hole it will feed correctly
Absolutely, swapping back and forth between gauges is a huge time loss. I’ve really got nothing against the cheaper one, it certainly gets the job done 👍
While I love my Stripmeister, there are 2 things they could improve on 1. have a detachable cranking handle 2. being able to strip wire as small as #28 AWG

Great machine. I have had mine for about 2 weeks. I am glad I paid up for the Strip Meister
Now, with stripping the wires, as you first feed it through, attach something to where you have the wire on one side and the housing on the other side, that way it separates it as you're stripping it, then you just have it separated already. Great video, wire stripping videos are my favorite for some odd reason!!!
Ooo, clever!
But what I learned with the China boy:
1 bolt it down to a table.
I just used the strip-mister. I was really impressed with it.
On sale for $145.00 US ! Saved me a ton not a scrapper but have hundreds of pounds of scrap copper wire. Thanks for this video
6:30 ROFL the pain is real. Your sacrifice will be remembered in the annals of gas stations & restaurants everywhere. Salute.
if your going to spend this much time stripping wire, I recommend getting a wire stripper with a 1/2hp motor attached. the one i use has 12 different insert slots for different gauge wire. much easier to handle
Any thoughts on the bluerock vs the stripmeister? I'm looking at the biggest models of both. Thanks
Did you ever choose either of them? I was looking at both manufacturers like you. I was looking at either e250 from stripmeister or bluerock 808 model .
Love the review videos, I think you’re really good at it, very enjoyable and entertaining to watch!
Thanks! 😊
Thank you so much I've been debating which one I was gonna get, definitely willing to spend more for the higher quality product
I’m really surprised at how much easier it makes things tbh
😆
I have the stripmister and it's awesome! Of course I had to pay for mine lol but it's paid for it's self 3 to 4 times over. Appreciate the videos
Great content & love your honesty (and humor) on side by side comparisons. You have me sold on the StripMeister which is selling for under $120 US.
Great job! Buy local if you can! Nice to see you indoors and staying warm!
Right of the bat the stripmeisters guide looks like a winner. So much less effort just to get it started
I just got the smaller one from Canada and it works great. I only paid $147.00 bucks on Amazon. Best money spent.
I've been looking at investing in one, thank you for helping me make up my mind, great video
I bought one about the same size as the big one from amazon and it worked perfectly. But i will be buying a stripmeister in the future.
I bought the little one on temu for $30 and I love it
I made the cheap purchase and now regret it.
A circle of life! Yeah the big stuff isn’t so bad to do by hand, I don’t get much of it anyway haha
Keep up the good videos... Hamilton 🇨🇦
I've borrowed a friend's stripmister and have been able to strip the smallest wire due to , being able to adjust my feed hole "down" at the same time as using the drill to catch the wire.
I strip just about everything now except for computer harness practically. Come to think of it, I was able to pull a speaker wire in 2, then run it through also. That had to be close to a 1/16.
I wasn’t planning on using this space for this, but I knew this video would be a lot more fun if the wire wasn’t frozen lol
Yeah the new space looked dope! But I also dirty spaces too :)
2:01 "a bit of scrap steel" lol😂
love the video Thub. Just ordered myself one of them. Thanks man!
Nice review Thub! I don't plan on buying a stripper, but if I was - I know which way I'd jump! 👍
The bigger one comes with a guide to prevent it rolling out so easily. But it sometimes happens on twisted cable I just have to hold it up in the back to keep the slack from pulling it sideways. I've stripped 1500 lbs just today with it and I damaged the blade but a quick sharpen and it's as good as news.
i dont think i have to say this but after you set the stripmeister to what you're cutting cut everything the same size. love this product i have 2
Dude, love the videos. Keep doing the thing! Wish i would've gotten familiar with RUclips so many years ago. From the state of Indiana.
I think a lot of people are wondering how soon you can pay back the investment. Loved both videos on the subject. Many thanks for all the hard work.
I’ve seen those ones too, people really seem to like them!
The Stripmeister feed wheel is way better. I have the cheaper one and it does slip all the time. Great video.
Thank you! I was surprised at how significant the difference between the was
Was beginning to wonder why you hadn't put out a video in a bit - you were spending all your time trying to get that cheap amazon stripper to work!
Stripmeister all the way. I took a motor I found, added an controller and it blasts through the wire.
Tip - sort your wire into sizes/types as your largest time killer is the resetting of the cutting wheel and guides. Going back and forth between them just wastes time.
Wow. Thanks for the review. I just placed an order for the Stripmeister.
how much scrap aluminum does the big one yield?
Appreciate your advice. I want the easiest possible for my family that has taken up stripping wires.
I agree, I have the same one
I have noticed the grooves will probably get gummed up, I was hoping it could just separate them completely by disassembling the unit
I found a 2by4 with a screw works the best for me on most wire. I have a few machines but 2by4 seems to go faster and less trouble
i saw your video. good job with the comment AND the video.
thank you for making this video, looks like Canada for the win! Im in Canada, didn't think we made ANYTHING lol
I have run over 600 pounds of wire through my strip meister in 2 months... best stripper for the money never broke down 👍👍👍👍
Mine’s working like a champ too!
excellent video, exactly the info a scrapper needs, a stripper that doesn't fight you, and gets the job done quickly. spending extra for something that works way better is the way to go... and very timely for me, cords and wire piling up everywhere, i need a stripper in a bad way.
I have the the cheap stripper and I quickly came to the conclusion that hand stripping was quicker and less frustrating
I ended up hand stripping quite a bit as well even after getting the first one! Glad to have the upgrade 👍
Thanks my friend for leading us in the direction of a great tool over one that isn't so great. Stay safe and blessed brother.😎😎⛏⛏🔥🔥
I’m not sure I’d go that hard, but it’s always nice to add some clean copper to the pile 😊
I have the crappy one. Works great for what I use it for. The big Aluminium hard plastic power line.
Enjoying mine so far. Going great. Went by your strong recommendation. Thanks! 👍🏻
the stipper on 2:00 i have other brand but its works ;)
and its about you handel it, mine works fine and you have to know how its works that is the problem and i know it, kan film it if you whant
great video
Just bought the E250, have a bunch of well wire to go through. Can’t wait!
I am in favor of the stripmeister. now I just need the funds to buy 1😣 thanks for showing the difference between the two it is a big difference. I enjoy your videos 😊
The one is just so much easier than the other! I realize the comparison could’ve been more fair but this was still an accurate representation of my experience with both, and I believe anybody else would find the same
@@thubprint do u live in Canada or USA?
Great video. I’ll support my neighbor to the north!
However, based on the Amazon link in this video's description, the inner split wheel on the smaller unit, on the right, looks almost like the same style of wheel/teeth as the crew works on the right at 10:46
So, how would that work out any better?
I have a Stripmeister and it is great. I adjust the gap as I need in accordance to the material I'm stripping. Hand down.
I appriciate an honest review even if its a little brutal. thanks!
Thub knows all the best ways to pull your wire
😆👌
I just leveled up because of this video
Stripmeister shows good old Canadian know-how. Deserves a maple leaf sticker on it.
It certainly does the job, I’ve used mine for some time now and didn’t really think much of it until trying out the fancy one
While I love my Stripmeister, there are 2 things they could improve on
1. have a detachable cranking handle
2. being able to strip wire as small as #28 AWG
Hey I’m gunna test these two products…… iv powered one device with a jet engine and the other with a phucking hamster in a wheel 😂
😂😂
