It's similar to nuzzle which is a 100% accurate paralyze with damage, and it too just ignores taunt. It seems like Ceaseless Edge's huge advantage is it cuts straight through a lot of the common counter-play.
Freezai, do you think you could do a video explaining when, how, and why you'd want to run a pokemon that isn't as high tier as what you're competing in, like how you chose Abomasnow for the Championship match. I've been wanting to see if you could run a team of nu, ru, or uu mon in say ou or ubers and do well.
The reason why you run mons who trash in is probably one reason if it has a niche. Most people use skeldirge in Uber since it is the number one Zaician-Crown counter. Like don't run something super ass like miltank in Uber since it can't do anything.
I think Freezai could explain it better, but basically you use pokemon from lower tiers when you search for a pokemon that could fulfill certain precise conditions that are not found within OU (or the tier you're in). Those conditions vary, but they're generally : -What types could cover the main weaknesses on my team ? (you can find them by using a team planner who checks the weaknesses of your team for you, there are plenty on the web) -What role does my team needs ? (A wisher, a sweeper, a pivot, etc...) -What could counter the pokemon that are the most used by other players, and that are dangerous for my team ? (If your team fear ground types, have a mon who flies/levitate or who can resist EQ from Lando-T, and who has an Ice type attack) It's why pokemon like Quagsire are used in high tier teams : they're not strong which explains their placement, but their type combination and the role they fulfill is unique and interesting enough to synergize well, even with Uber-tier teams.
Adding to the other comments, look at how Pachirisu was used by Sejun Park in the 2014 VGC finals. Sure, Pachirisu has a trash BST but it's basically I think the only pokemon that learns Follow Me, Fake Out, and a switch move (it gets both U-Turn and Volt Switch) as well as a decent enough Sp Def stat to tank the occasional Draco Meteor.
I do kinda wish you could go over why, in comparison, Kleavor isn't very good. It also gets a hazard setting attacking move in Stone Axe, and also has Sharpness, but its struggling to make a place for itself in OU, and in UU its viability is contentious. I do imagine that its failure to beat common hazard removal unlike with Samurott, and bad type in general, hold it back a LOT.
probably a big reason is that 1 free turn to throw out rocks is relatively easy to come by but the time it takes to full set up spikes is a commitment so the ability to threaten while spiking provides a lot more value compared to doing damage with the rocks
Samurott-H really earned that usage. It's not oppressively strong so it can be dealt with. It hits hard, but not so hard it can't be stopped. It pairs well with Gholdengo but Ceaseless Edge and knock off keep it from just swapping in whenever. It hits hard enough that Zapdos can switch in, but it's not without risks. And likewise it can threaten it out. It's just a really solid option. It's not power creep (maybe Ceaseless Edge is a bit) making it an oppressive "Must Have", it's just a good mon.
Another thing worth noting is how much the tier was looking for a good Water type. Did come up a bit with regards to the Great Tusk discussion, but I remember pre-home the tier had mons like Azumarill, Rotom Wash, and Dondozo holding on all at the lower end of usage mostly down to the fact they were the Water mons of choice, but the tier seemed to struggle finding a Water type with some amount of speed and power behind it to actually get momentum going. Samurott obviously wouldn't've gotten there on its own (Regular Samurott is a testament to that), but the added momentum of Ceaseless Edge made all the difference. You can especially compare to a mon like Kleavor, who also has Sharpness and a personal move that can set hazards, but just doesn't match well into the current Ground-centric metagame.
Sharpness is a cool ability but the original would benefit more from a different one like Tough Claws or Swift Swim. Hisuian makes Sharpness work due to Ceaseless Edge.
The fact that Ceaseless Edge is a stab dark type move is huge. If it was a normal type move I doubt it'd be nearly as oppressive, especially with all these ghost and steel types going around.
Dark types have really been rising in stocks since Gen 6 nerfed Steels tbh. Also helping that Ghost is likely the best offensive type in the game post Pursuit removal
I was a bit surprised that this video was mostly about why hazards without the first-turn opportunity cost are good, and not why H-Samurott is generally in a better position than Kleavor's Stone Axe which deals the generally-better stealth rock over spikes.
@@InsaneGarrison25 but ceaseless edge only inflicts one layer of spikes, so that comparison's not really relevant. Great video as always. Why would you say that Kleavor is a UU mon? Is it mostly that it matches up poorly against Great Tusk or is there more nuance than that?
Ceaseless Edge have nearly no way to stop it from happening. beside protect and semi-invulnerable move. and that if they press it right away and not sword dance if you do that and they sword dance you instantly shit your pant.
I'd ask if Justified would be a good way to punish this, but water STAB and sharpness boosted Sacred Sword cover all your dark-resistant options except Keldeo and Virizion super effectively. 72 attack and 72 defense, awesome...
Still a bad typing on kleavor basically you aren’t doing any relevant damage to the top mons from your stab options, also stealth rock can’t be stacked and the mons who would normally hate rocks the most would already have heavy duty boots on, but with spikes if you get enough moves off it can cause massive damage to the entire party
In addition to getting damage, another advantage over Spikes is that Ceaseless Edge cannot be Taunted or Magic Bounced.

Great video as always.
Why would you say that Kleavor is a UU mon? Is it mostly that it matches up poorly against Great Tusk or is there more nuance than that?
This is awesome
1:47 calamity reference!!!!1111
I love this mon sm, its not broken, but its fun to use and rly great for the meta
4:27 i mean, superman teams exist.
This dude just got flip turn
And now it also got flip turn...... It's gonna be insane
Thanks for the video
May you please do Why Goodra-H is so good compared to Goodra? I love your videos!
Type and stats
@@OneMoreBookMatt i know, but it has a worse movepool
I'm surprised court change Cinderace isn't seeing any play
did dude just sponsor himself
First time is seen spikes was vs Steven in saphire. I was so happy he didn’t attack lmao
I love your sponsor!
it's amusing how often Ceaseless Edge misses in the vid
Ceaseless Edge have nearly no way to stop it from happening.
beside protect and semi-invulnerable move.
and that if they press it right away and not sword dance if you do that and they sword dance you instantly shit your pant.
Get that sponsorship grind!=
I'd ask if Justified would be a good way to punish this, but water STAB and sharpness boosted Sacred Sword cover all your dark-resistant options except Keldeo and Virizion super effectively. 72 attack and 72 defense, awesome...
SAMUROTT SWEEP LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Man I wish regular samurott’s hidden ability got changed to sharpness
Can you make a video on why Kleavor is not used in OU?
I thought this was an FSG vid because of the thumbnail haha
Love this one 😊
Imagine if they made a move that did damage and setup rocks.
I thought the usage stats meant % chance that the pokemon was on either team.
Now id like to know why stone axe on kleavor isn't as good
Mostly you can't stack it and Kleavor's defensive typing is really bad
Bug and rock are really bad types
the regular samurott would make quite a jump with shell smash he would be better then blastoise and torterra
Ceaseless Edge: the pokemon. if pangoro got Cedge it would be decent too... probably not OU though
Already when do we get ceaseless web? A move that does damage and sets up sticky web and it's exclusive to a regional variant of shuckle
Love assault vest
volt switch into a rocky helmet Pokémon break samurott sash and kill him with helmet without letting him put his spikes
on the other hand, Kleavor signature move Stone Axe isn't as popular
Now it gets Flip Turn too
Cease compared to Stone is more spammable and matches ok with a lot of mons ...
i Guess that helped a lot
Samurott made it pretty good, but then how come Kleavor didn’t make it? (I don’t play OU)
@@leftistdegeneratejs makes sense.
ZoroDark got fucking HAXXED goddamn
All those who were here before he was cool, rise so we may bask in his splendor!
✌️
I just run defensive toxicroak and wactch Samurott H cower in fear
As a doubles only player I gotta say, y’all singles players have weird ass meta games
Punishing people for switching mindlessly is a part of the game.
Those who reject baxcalibur now there praying for him😊
It's definitely because of the stache. I think.
cool video, here's a comment for the algo
Is there a reason that Kleavor doesn't see the same kind of success?
