    With our 3rd I had been having prodromal labor for close to a week. I was 38 weeks at the time & had gotten a membrane sweep from my OB. By the time I hit 39 weeks, I tried a tablespoon of castor oil in a chocolate pudding cup. Definitely had a BM, no diarrhea or anything thankfully. That night I gave birth to our 3rd kid & 1st son! Worked great for me. But I couldn't stand chocolate pudding for a while hahaha.

    I am wondering about one thing, if our body was ok to induce labor so quickly and benefit from that, we would have castrol oil gland in our bodies. For me it is like adding gasoline to start a fire, instant reaction but it might do unnecessary harm. I would prefer matches and air flow, it will take a bit more time, but the result ain't going to be that drastic, however safe and pleasant, because there is a joy from seeing the fire growing gradually. That is part of pleasure of bbq and fire place :) If I was in a life threatening emergency and all condition were against, then I could probably use a bit of gasoline, carefully. I would probably use the castrol oil only if no other safer option was available.

    You will have to distinguish:
    - In the case that your liver will be without any toxins your gall will be without any toxins too. So, moving the bowels by taking a good dose castor oil will be experienced always as harmless, for the PGE2-synthesis will not happen and you will not be able to induce labor.
    - In the other case that after having swallowed a good dose castor oil a lot of toxins will be liberated in the liver and excreted with the gall in the duodenum the PGE2-synthesis will occur with cramps of the bowels and the womb, and this one may be experienced as harmful and you will be able to induce labor.

My second was 150% more easier as his head was facing the other way and his was fast and almost painless, no fear but I was 40wks 1day. This one I am 39wks 1day atm so want to induce with the oil but the risk of it being painful and terrible like my first.. might give it a miss. It definitely works. If you take it will something fat based like peanut butter, almost butter or even pudding it really cuts the nausea and likeliness of diarrhea. The biggest thing you forgot to mention is that the castor oil is a laxative which can pass through the placenta and cause the baby to pass meconium in the womb which can cause lung problems for the baby. I learned this a couple hours after taking the oil at 38 weeks and upon my internet research the only way to tell if this has happened or not is if the amniotic fluid is green or brownish when your water breaks so if your water doesn’t break for another 2 weeks after you take the oil your baby could be at a huge risk

    So if it’s the laxative effect that starts the contractions, wouldn’t it be the same for other laxative methods? Like laxative pills? Or an enema?

    • @birthtoolbox
      @birthtoolbox  10 месяцев назад

      Yes, they could also start labor, but I would consult a care provider before choosing any of these methods.
