Eskimo is a derogatory term for indigenous peoples of northern Canada, Greenland, and Russia. Its theorized to have originated with the Algonquin tribes of the East Coast, pretty much the Europeans asked the name of the people in the north from people who warred with them, and got an insulting label (indigenous on indigenous racism, go figure). So its absolutely appropriate for them to stop using an insult for a name, and kudos for them to doing so in consideration of northern indigenous peoples.
