If I ever need a new PC, I know where to get them. Minisforum is doing a great job creating these beasts of smol PCs.
Pulled the trigger on a MINISFORUM HX77G. Very pleased with its performance. Should be my living room PC for at least 3 years.

Minisforum should offer the bottom cooling plate for existing UM690 owners. I feel like us existing UM690 owners have been screwed over. The original UM690 is essentially ewaste without it.
were you able to somehow cool the bottom with some custom fans etc?
most definitely, mine literally popped and wouldn’t turn on anymore, luckily their customer support is great and they’re sending me a 690s, wish this didn’t happen but I’m glad I didn’t waste my money as it had been a great PC until that happened haha
UM690S looks like a nice refresh above UM690 predecessor.

I've had the drivers update online for my um730, it really helped performance, I'm really impressed of that tiny thing performance!
It would be nice to see some WiFi tests on these mini PCs, not sure this specific model would have the same problem, but the ones with metal bodies do show very drastic performance issues like in the um790 pro for example. I recently bought one and was very disappointed to see that.
In my experience, if you want to use something wireless, keep away from aluminium cases.
Really wish they'd sell those new bottoms separately. I've got a UM733 Lite and I'd really like that upgrade.
I cannot confirm WiFi but when wired I’ve never seen steam go so fast. I get about 933mb/s on my fttp fibre and it uses it all and consistently so, so the SSD and lan are nippy
I wish they would build a mini PC in console format, something similar to the Minisforum HX99G, but with the AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT GPU and the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU, it would be a dream come true.
Bought this over the cheaper 773 lite after seeing the cooling differences between the um690 and the S version. Also saw a video saying that the 773 still suffered from heat-related throttling. A bit nervous about the liquid metal use, given Gamer Nexus's experience on an older, possibly? HX90 model but fingers crossed.... unit arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to it
Just to follow up if anyone is reading. I did drop on one of these and it IS very good but, perhaps I have been spoiled by Apple silicon, I was expecting a lot less fan noise, but over and above that I found the fan, at least on my unit, to be quite a high-pitched whine under load, so maybe consider that as well - if your environment can stand a bit of a hum and to be fair it IS only a bit then should be fine, the whine was a bit piercing but playing with fan settings might resolve that. As per review, 60fps+ is achievable in Cyberpunk if you can stand 900p, low, FSR 2.1 and performance settings though.
I've just bought one... Can't wait to start playing it with. Awesome mini machine.

I wish they would upgrade the um790 cooling. If you check the user group for minisforum, there are tons of complaints about the fan on the lower case of the um790 will literally just start and stop making a terrible noise. There is no easy way to change the settings to keep the fan active or fix the off/on issue. So far minisforum has ignored complaints. Before you buy anything from minsforum keep in mind there may be bugs and they often won't be fixed or require you to return unit to china, which is expensive and a long turn around time. I like my um790, but given the guts are similar to an ROG ally or upcoming legion go, they may offer some benefits over the um790 if you can deal with 16 gb of faster ram vs your own choice of ram size and speed.
bought the um790 pro and had to ask for a refund to Amazon because i could not complete the win11 configuration : I had BSOD a few minutes after the machine had started... How is it possible to sell such high price machine which are broken from the very beginning. And I'm not the only one. I would Appreciate @etaprime mentions these issues for which MinisForum does not do anything.
You're better off asking r/minipcs sincethe um790 pro wasbeing praised there last time I checked. And that the driver issues wasn't minisforum's fault but AMD since the 7940HS were new at that time and drivers have been issued since.
And by the way i've worked for Toshiba division which was building laptops. When there were issues we never complained it was the CPU manufactuer fault just because we tested the products we were putting on the market. Should their a be a defect that was our fault not the cpu manufacturer. We were responsible for all of our drivers.

Last gen SKU, no killer features to set it apart from the competition. Difficult to justify unless it's price competitive

its 350USD vs 500USD for the 7940HX model. Could be worth it to invest in a GPU enclosure or just to save money to sacrifice some gpu performance

i just returned today this exact desktop modelto amazon, minis forum 690s due to many issues.wifi cant connect to network and usb ports not working properly.
Nice testing, can you add CitiSkylines 2 to your testing with these APUs.
Please test on other distro and with a eGpu!

The market doesn't seem to be turning out alot of 7000 series devices (would really love a sff based on a 7x40hs or desktop 7000) are they holding back for the 8000 series maybe? I have built a few msi pro dp20z systems based on 5000 series over the last year and really wish for a 7000 series version.
i would like to see this hooked up with an external GPU. i really like how this has a 2nd fanset on it for better cooling.

I just ordered the 690Pro direct from Minisforum and it took less than a week to deliver. if you have any DDR 5 SODIMMOs lying around, or an nvme, order the barebones and save $
One thing i'd like to see on these small form factor devices(i have several, like the beelink SER6 Pro and Minisforum UM790 Pro) is BIOS controlls and better boards to support faster RAM.
My minisforum with 7940HS just would not run my kits of 5600 and 6400, defaulting to 4800.
IIRC the 6940HS and 7940HS can see as much as 20% faster GPU performance with faster RAM.
oh, and my 6940HS (RDNA2) with 5600 is faster than my 7940HS (RDNA3) with 4800
just sad to me that these 6 and 4nm parts are held back so much by RAM. heck, my 7nm 5700G could run DDR4 in gear1 up to 5000, or 4933C16-17-17-30, and thats with desktop dimms with long traces that, according to laptop manufacturers, means lower speed and reliability.

Edit, sorry, i thought you were replying to a different comment about how i'm excited to get my hands on the 8700G and finally get control over RAM speeds as the last 2 notifications were on this other comment for a different video.
I dont have any of the Beelink Zen4 hardware, but if their Zen3.5 hardware, or Minisforum Zen4 hardware is any indication, i doubt i'd be given adequate controls.
The RAM is crap anyway, the best i can get is 6400 EXPO, it would be nice to get that running, but instead on both the beelink and minisforum it will drop down to 3600-4000 no matter what options i select, even if i try to put it at 4800.
maybe because its a 64GB kit and i know that both DDR4 and 5 are harder to run fast the larger the kit
Take B-dye on DDR4, my 5700G will run single rank 16GB kit up to 5000(4933C17-17-17-28 without touching voltages on CPU) but with dual rank 32GB i've got to up the voltage on the memory controller just to get 4600C19-19-19-39 running in gear1/cr1
@@denvera1g1 unfortunately i'm not a well educated pc nerd but the ser7 comes with 5600mhz ram installed also the um780xtx (at least it' stated that it supports up to 5600mhz)
@@snubdawg1386 As does the um790, but if you want to swap it out for other 5600 you have to find a compatible kit, but they dont tell you whats compatible(at least not when i was doing my testing) so i went through 4 different kits to find a 32GB kit that worked at 5600, and so far, no 64GB kits as these are too expensive for me to just buy all of them to find out none of them work.

Do you have an official local importer that deals with warranty and repairs, or do you also have to send back the computer to HK?

@ksandysid2 Even if you don't have them sodimm ram and ssd's have gone down in price enough you save so much money over markups from manufacturers. Plus they are pretty easy to install it's a quick 10 minute swap.

Does the BIOS allow ram speed adjustment? Seems like that's a waste of silicone for the ryzen 9 6900hx if the ram speed is so low.

Very informative video- I'm thinking of getting one. Never had this form factor of a computer. I have always been a Mac and AIO Pc user for the past 24 years. One Question: Do the dual fans make noise? Iv'e had all in ones like Dell and Lenovo make considerable annoying noise due to the fan speeds, etc. Is this quiet sitting in a very quiet room and desk environment?

Hello, I really like your videos and have been watching them for the last few months. I’ve got it 17-year-old HP all in one I five with 8 GB ram which barely moves these days. I’m looking to replace it as a back up computer, I’m a Mac guy using my every day machine as a MacBook Pro M1 with 64 gigs of ram and a 2 TB SSD. Absolutely overkill but I bought it hoping to keep it 10 years my last MacBook last me 10 years all of the last year was painful. My question is can you recommend just one mini PC for less than $1000? It is the best bang for the buck. I don’t do gaming although I’m a pilot and would love to try flight Sim 2020 but I know I probably can’t do that on many PC but really I just want to use this PC as a back up in case my MacBook fails as I do zoom calls every day and maybe hook up some portable hard drives to it and maybe use it as an ass or something like that you do such a great job of reviewing all these PCs that sometimes it’s hard to keep up and I can’t figure out just one to go with. Personally, I would love a 2 TB hard drive with 32 gigs ram and it would be cool if it was expandable just in case if I ever got crazy and wanted to add an external GPU to it one day. Thanks again.
At current prices, it is about 1/6 cheaper than the UM790 that I bought, and about 1/6th slower on CPU benchmarks.

As usual a nice review :) Would be nice one day to talk about these usb port that share power and that are fragile on the long terms...2 of my nuc got problem with power and if one of the two died the other one also :( For me its kind of not clever to put 4 usb port that are like 2

Hi, I got the UM690S and it's a bit noisy, a constant wishling sound, even when just watching youtube videos. Is this normal?
When I play pixel like games I can hear a sizzling like noise.
It's my first mini pc.
Power wise seems fine.
not normal. Check if the fan power cable is hitting the fan (you will need to remove the bottom plate by pulling the rubber feet and 4 screws)

No because Nintendo doesn't make the law
Downloading roms off the internet isn't exactly legal especially if it isn't abandonware but emulation itself isn't no matter how much Nintendo wants you to believe that it is. Now, they are integrating DRM like Denuvo to stop people from doing it anyway.

One thing i reccomend trying is 5600, as long as the IMC or FCLK dont downlock significantly, my 7940HS likes to drop to as low as 800Mhz with fast RAM
I have 32gb of 5600mhz ram available, and I am ordering um690s on the way, how can I use it with 5600mhz frequency? I heard it defaults to 4800???

My UM690 died so this was prolly a good idea from Minusforum. Doesn't boot and the light on the PSU simply strobes.

@ETA PRIME - Does the "S" version still allow increasing the memory speeds like the original 690? [EDIT] Also, does the installation of a 2.5" drive affect cooling at all, since it seems it would block a some of that air flow? If it no longer throttles, how does this run/bench with faster memory?

Can you show how to increase the VRAM? I've noticed that the VRAM in a lot of your reviews are 512mb to 2gb of VRAM. The 4800h that you did a few weeks ago to a month had 4gb!!! Of VRAM.

No Wifi 6e, and no Zen4 or 780M....😢 I feel like if Mini is going to make something new, back tracking isn't the way to go. They literally just made this to add a new cooler. These components can be found in the HX series.
Can the ram be brought above 4800mhz in the bios? I know there are kits over 5000 now and I know that these iGPU's love that extra memory speed.
Is it true this chipset is not as good for gaming as the Z1 Extreme. Everywhere I look it says the Z1 outperforms this chip. just wondering if it would be better to get the Ally instead?

I have not much knowledge in computers and im looking for a mini pc for producing music. At thw moment im only running a i5 7th gen with 16gb ram. My cpu is pretty much maxed out after opening so many plugins/vsts. I know i need to up my ram so i was thinking of buying this with 64gb ram and 1tb hd. Should i go for the R9 chip? Or go for intel. Im just not sure... thanks for any help

I bought an albeit older model now in the HM/HS80 (Ryzen 4800U) and the fan has failed on me three times now :) I wish I could show the rediculous picture of my system's open top, and USB powered fan aimed at the heatsink... It's ghetto... but its also my main work PC! So... not gonna spend anymore on it. :P

This is not so much directed to MinisForum, who I salute for actually doing this, but to AMD who develop and manufacture some fantastic hardware and then cut their legs off by having average at best drivers. Since ATI days. FFS! Yes I know AMD is not as big and as rich as Nvidia, but ffs this same excuse for 25 years now is getting a bit silly.
Still, bravo and I hope this is only the beginning.
PS. AMD, please do something better with the power consumption of your dGPUs. The difference with Nvidia's is just...
How it handle Proxmox for some virtualization?
There are so many of these computers ! I had a question : is it better to have a ryzen 9 with a 680M or a ryzen 7 with a 780M ? I would aim to do ps3 and switch emulation.
Probably the 780m since newer architecture on both cpu and gpu

As cool as these mini pc are, I'm finding it hard for me personally to justify buy one. For travel, a laptop is far more convenient with a screen, keyboard, mouse pad, and battery for work off a main. Also pc handheld is more alluring for travel too.
At home I already have custom built pc, so it would be used at all there either...
still cool, though, and i still kinda want one lolololol
In my experience they're more suitable for low-power homelab use cases.

Minisforum hx77 or hx80 is almost ps5 in terms of power overall. Its more of a midi pc but it is capable of 1440p at way past 60fps on some aaa games
Mini pc rarely have discrete gpu so gaming laptop maybe , dont even think to pair mini pc and egpu cuz it that case better spent on mini itx pc
