I love mini PCs and travel with one, so the idea of having a Oculink native setup at home would be nice. It would also be nice to see a video running ChimeraOS on this setup with the GPD G1 or a higher end AMD GPU in one of your DIY Oculink docks.

An eGPU video/s would be great. Questions you could probably answer that I definitely can't. * Will a 4090 saturate Occulink or USB or is it sufficient for all current gen cards? * If you get the new 4060 that has a built in NVME slot, will the PC be able to access that disk over Occulink/USB? * Is Occulink better than a PCI riser cable? Perhaps it can be a longer cable or is just as fast? * What open bench style options are good for an eGPU with Occulink? * Are there any prebuilt eGPU cases with Occulink worth using? * Is it worth putting an AIO or other extra cooling with things like a 4090 in an eGPU format? * Is it simple to put the card in a small PC case of some kind, and use it as an eGPU? * If so, what's a budget case that would be sensible, and what's the luxury option for the 4090 crowd? * Is Occulink better or worse than the Asus XG Mobile connector (which seems to be Occulink+USB for extra bandwidth/device support) * Do you think there's something better than either of those coming such as Occulink 2, Asus thing becoming a standard, or USB-65? * Is it possible to use a mobile GPU in a home built eGPU and is that even worth thinking about? * How long can an Occulink cable be, because that affects desk layout? * Are there any docks that support Occulink too that might help with that? * Will you be getting an ETA Prime Stencil so you can replace the tiger with your own brand? I think that's about it. For me, I'm hoping to get an Asus Z Flow 13 at some point, so I can use it as my office/work PC going forward and also to give me a tablet and laptop all in one. I probably wouldn't bother with the eGPU for that as it's unlikely to face that kind of workload and I want to avoid gaming on it anyway. But for the gaming PC, and for messing around with Stable Diffusion and ineptly using photo editing software and stuff, I'd like to move up to a 4060 Ti 16gb from this 1080 which is... well, it's a champ and it was given to me by a friend, but it's still 'ancient' and a 40 series would be a massive upgrade. Not that a 4090 wouldn't be nice to have. I love the idea of a future where I could put whatever card I use, in its own box with reliable cooling and plug it into a Rog Ally, or Steamdeck, or my office or gaming PC to use it as needed. Not to mention the cooling being easier to control. Hopefully the Occulinks of the future will surpass the speed that the graphics cards can operate at, have long enough cables to help with layout and ultimately, reduce e-waste.
You might need to do a series of eGPU videos answering questions such as, 'Why even use an eGPU instead of a massive desktop?' and, 'Why wouldn't I just use an expensive laptop with weak hardware?' Lots of comments in here have no earthly idea why an eGPU is advantageous in some situations, which is not entirely inexplicable. I have reasons to like the idea, some people are completely baffled by it though because other options seem more sensible, easier or better until someone explains what the use cases are.
Very interested in a walk through of the low profile/budget eGPU setup. Ideally, I’d want something that fits inside the entertainment unit in the living room.
I’d be curious about how a full tower with a top GPU performs vs These Okulink ports will the same GPU.. for reference I know little about the technology
Just FYI, it has been shown that there is big performance gains and advantages is maxing out the RAM to 64gigs. You're able to get full GPU power and CPU performance by allowing 32gig performance for both which in both Laptop and APU setups the system is designed to increase performance in RAM increases.
Upcoming Minisforum HX200G will have Radeon RX 7600M XT already inside! So it seems it should perform equal to the setup we have seen with external GPU
Would any of these mini pc’s support multiplayer use? How impactful are multiple players on these systems? A friend of mine would love a mini emulation pc for their kids this Christmas. Literally asking for a friend. Thanks!

Would just like to say thank you for reviewing an AMD 7x40 APU, I've been waiting for someone to put it through its paces! I've seen it in mobile devices but it's then got something like an Nvidia 4050 along side, doesn't really test the graphics side of the device. I was hoping for these to have been launched about 6 months ago - have developers been slow at releasing them or has there been problems adapting the platform? Have they released benchmarking for the AI Cores yet? would like to see that in action
Just curious, but as of today, what do you think is the best mini pc for gaming, you can buy (not built yourself). Which manufacturer or model will let you play games like Elden Ring or other triple A games as well as having some future proofing, at least for a while? What's the strongest mini pc?
If you’re looking for the absolute best I’d consider looking out for the upcoming acemagic tank 03 pc but unfortunately there are not many reviews yet since it comes out later this month. It is not quite as slim as these other mini Pc’s but it is definitely going to be the most powerful, especially if you get the model with a 3080M.
This is the best so far, I'd say. That oculink port performs essentially as well as a straight PCIe slot. This is about as future proof as a mini pc gets. As long as the CPU keeps up, you can just swap out the GPU to better ones down the road and be fine.
When do you think they'll update the hx77 an put the 7600m in it? I'd like to see an update to that over 2 year architecture and what kind of price point it can be
For PD in do you have to have a monitor that can deliver 120W like the power adapter? Or would you be fine using a 90-95W PD monitor with no risk of things blowing up?
Would be be nice to know when CPU is bottleneck and maybe make no sense invest in more powerful GPU card for this. So some kind of recommendation for best high end GPU for this PC.
quick question... my monitor has a usb-c port that besides video input can also reverse charge up to 90W. so, could I use that port to power this mini pc (running everything with this single usb-c cable for video and power) only using my monitor's power brick, or does it really need that 120W brick it comes with?
Just got mine today. Wifi is useless. Sometimes getting less than 1 Mbps. Goes up to maybe 10 at times. Even causes wifi on my laptop to be trash. The interference is horrible. Ethernet works fine, but I wanted this to be a mobile setup, so it's going back.
So Oculink gives you better bandwidth than USB4; but how much of performance hit % would get with Oculink PCIe4 x4 but PCIe4 x16 (so like 50% performance hit?)@@jondonnelly3
@@jondonnelly3 yeah that's my question about it - I wondered if Occulink gets saturated by more powerful cards. I mean, not the Radeon or Intel ones obviously but the Nvidia ones. I'm kidding Radeon fans, their cards are great they're just utterly useless for my own needs. :)

Great video! Some basic Oculink, vs. M.2 vs. USB 4 testing would be awesome. All out the same device, no one's done this and my curiosity is at it's peek!
Yeah, definitely would like to see some more videos with this system and oculink gpus. Also would be interested in seeing how linux is with this setup, if that's at all possible.
Given that you lose an m.2 storage slot they should have added a 3rd m.2 slot or at least a sata slot for a 2.5inch sata ssd. Games are huge these days and you need the extra storage. Would be good if you did a comparison of performance between using that gpu in usb4 and oculink to see if theres a significant difference.
Forgive my ignorance of this had been shown already, but I'd really like to know if these all AMD Oculink systems run well under Linux. There's a lack of small form factor gaming systems with all AMD. The only other I can think of is the HX99G family - and that's gone out of stock.
It includes the OCulink adapter? Very nice. I have a friend who loves this form factor but still wants to game hard, and eGPU can definitely help with that, though I'd need to see some actual FPS numbers for games running @1080p High with a 3060 and a 4060, as well as @1440p and @4K with a 3080 and a 4080.
Wouldn't it make more sense just to buy a gaming laptop at this point? You're into 4070 territory there on price, plus you would get the mobility of a laptop.
Can you easily share a GPU between two laptops? Because one occulink eGPU can be shared between an unlimited number of devices, as long as they too have oculink.
@@sirdinkus6537 how many people actually need to do that? That would be one of the only reasons to take this route. In this video's use case, it was just to bump the stock mini computer...
I would be SO grateful if you would please do some VR testing with this UM780 XTX using Quest 2/3 with the GPD G1 and a GTX4070 and/or GTX4080 attached, including Half Life: Alyx benchmarks. I bought the UM780 XTX, it works ok for some VR apps, it generally works solo but really bad frame rates for games like HL:Alyx using BIOS Performance (70W) setting.
I feel like the Raspberry Pi may have influenced the development of mini computers, but whether or not that's the case, it's a very interesting direction to go in for gaming and desktop use alike. Interested to see if integrated graphics start to get beefier as companies maybe start creating powerful all-in-ones like this more.
I'd say the Intel NUC was a pretty major thing but it came out after Pi. It's probably more likely that there was an inflection point where the hardware shrank back down to the size that could make the whole thing possible, and of course, Microsoft stopped bloating Office and Windows so normal office usage requirements remained similar. (Don't get me wrong, they're still buggy, bloated and awful but a better CPU isn't going to make Word, Outlook or Acrobat Reader perform much better anymore.)
I was running Atom based X86 PCs in 2009 well before the Raspberry PI came out. The Pi and the NUC were just this generation's foray into the idea of what used to be called "nettops". Those Atom based machines would run Windows 7 or Linux (I ran Lindows for a few years) like a champ, game on basic stuff, browse the web, and even run some versions of photoshop. I traveled with one of those for YEARS. My favorite was the ZOTAC that was the size of a cigarette pack.
Will 96Gb finally be enough for Adobe Acrobat to scroll smoothly, I wonder? :D Seriously though, that's insane. You could load some pretty decent games entirely into RAM (not that I imagine that would really happen). I would be doubtful of the cooling supporting it though.
Love you ETA Prime ❤ Can you do a video on how to have the best Apple Setup to play Apple Arcade games? (You actually can just use a Apple TV. I suggest because a new exclusive Sonic Game is come to Apple so I thought it’d be a cool idea for you to show off some Apple setup with Xbox controller or something.)
10:40 don't get fooled by the scores, this mini PC barely scores above an ROG Ally with tweaked settings. The advantage is obviously the 32Gigs of RAM and the occulink connection to add any GPU you want.
When you test new machines, could you show hard to emulate games from each generation of consoles? That would give a real good indicator of what is possible.
I’d like the see the difference in usb4 egpu vs oculink egpu how much of a gain you get In performance or if it’s worth using up an m.2 slot. Many thanks

FPS counter software shows GPU RAM usage hitting 6.5-9.5GB usage and regular non-GPU RAM hitting 15-16GB usage. One question : can you exchange DDR5 rams with faster Rams, above 5600MHz ? Does this mini PC (I mean the Bios...) is able to support higher speed ? It's always unclear.. Same question for M2 slots ....
Yeah, the manufacturers get super vague on the specifications and it can be really confusing. Yes, I know you say it supports 2TB but there's two drive slots... do you mean it supports 2TB drives in either or both slots, or 2 TB in total...?
I would love to see a video on that 4060 with the pico power supply. I a more parts friendly and budget friendly half slot card would be nice and still fit well with these smaller computers.
I've just bought one of those, with a coupon 150€ off! 🤩 super stoked with antici-.... It's gonna replace my big chonking Fractal Define R6, B550 ATX mobo and 5600G. The upgrade im looking forward to most is the jump from Vega7 to RDNA3 - if i'm counting right, i'm jumping 2 generations. Since i'm keeping my SSD, i got the barebone variant and ordered 32 gix of dual channel Kinston Fury Impact 5600 CL40 RAM. That OCUlink port really sold it!
Really wish they had more USB-C ports.. those USB-3 ports seem out of place here. Also, it would be really great if you could test this model with your beefier eGPUs.. running games in 4K. I'd appreciate that as that would be my own use-case. Finally.. when you are running Cyberpunk, are you able to turn on Ray Tracing with the setups you tested in this video? Thanks!
im really wondering how much RAM was allocated to the GPU. if you said it i missed it. Would like to see it maxed out and the GPU to be overclocked and the CPU tuned

Why no 7940HS or 7945hx? I am getting tired of these underwhelming mini PCs. This is like the 10th iteration of the same outdated setup. Tiresome and uninspiring. Also, the Oculink port should require you giving up a M2 slot. Total fail.
That gpd card linked over oculink versus linked over usb4, as it has both interfaces onboard. Interesting to show how much performance of that external gpu stays on the table (or not).
Own a H31G. Broke down 4 times. Can’t plug anything more than keyboard and mice without external powered usb hub. Why? Because the motherboards ics burn out. I have these good component level technicians who fixed it for me

Forza Motorsport is a surprising result. I know it's the game optimization, but it's amazing if we remember how bad it was before.
What about the quality ? Several ppl say that beelinks are better and more reliable.
Yes please show more videos with other eGPU options! Can you also show the performance difference between GPD G1 with Oculink vs USB4?
20 Gbps difference...
Why didn't you show it with your Logo LED Cover? 🥺
You can buy 4 and 8tb nvme drives now
@@jamesharnish650 right but if you can afford those options, you probably wouldn't buy this machine.
@@jamesharnish650 Yeah and those 2 options cost alot more than the 1 and 2tb options. 2 m.2 drives is far cheaper than a single 4tb or 8tb drive.
Exactly 💯
These reviews are probably sponsored
Can you easily share a GPU between two laptops? Because one occulink eGPU can be shared between an unlimited number of devices, as long as they too have oculink.
@@sirdinkus6537 that’s a VERY limited use-case. How many people use multiple systems without GPU’s?
@@sirdinkus6537 how many people actually need to do that? That would be one of the only reasons to take this route. In this video's use case, it was just to bump the stock mini computer...
Web site says Windows 11 not pro and blue tooth 5 not 5.3....
what is better if you dont care about an external gpu? UM780 XTX vs UM790 Pro ?
They’re almost the same aside from the oculink port. The UM790 pro will probably be cheaper so in that case: better.
I am trying to find it on Europe and buy it with installments but I haven't found anything yet. What about noise while playing ?
I would be SO grateful if you would please do some VR testing with this UM780 XTX using Quest 2/3 with the GPD G1 and a GTX4070 and/or GTX4080 attached, including Half Life: Alyx benchmarks. I bought the UM780 XTX, it works ok for some VR apps, it generally works solo but really bad frame rates for games like HL:Alyx using BIOS Performance (70W) setting.
You forgot to mention that it defies gravity 😂
How cool is it to have your logo on a mini pc?! That’s amazing
Would have loved to see it displayed.
NOT at all ..... just part of engineering and progress .... if anything else both come from the same engineering vision
Would this PC fit on the stand for the B550 mini pc they made a while back? thatd be a much easier dock for the all out build.
I believe this mini PC actually supports up to 96GB of DDR5 ram (2x 48GB sticks).
Will 96Gb finally be enough for Adobe Acrobat to scroll smoothly, I wonder? :D Seriously though, that's insane. You could load some pretty decent games entirely into RAM (not that I imagine that would really happen). I would be doubtful of the cooling supporting it though.
Love you ETA Prime ❤
Can you do a video on how to have the best Apple Setup to play Apple Arcade games?
Many thanks
OMG... I got this to run Half Life: Alyx at low graphics settings at 55-62 sustained framerate on a Meta Quest 3 using 120hz refresh rate on the headset, Virtual Desktop set to 120fps mode, also 90hz+90fps mode around the same sustained framerates, shockingly smooth. FPS counter software shows GPU RAM usage hitting 6.5-9.5GB usage and regular non-GPU RAM hitting 15-16GB usage.
Specs
UM780 XTX
64GB RAM
BIOS Performance Mode (70 Watts)
BIOS UMA Frame Buffer Size 16GB
Win11 Pro
Meta Quest 3
120Hz Refresh Rate
Hello, in cyberpunk game test with iGpu you said İTS 1080p but on screen it was written 1440p which öne was true? Thanks for the videos!
damn this is sexy AF, it beats my 1080ti, would be perfect for my boat, to save energy. can the egpu be powered by 12v?
I've just bought one of those, with a coupon 150€ off! 🤩 super stoked with antici-....
It's gonna replace my big chonking Fractal Define R6, B550 ATX mobo and 5600G. The upgrade im looking forward to most is the jump from Vega7 to RDNA3 - if i'm counting right, i'm jumping 2 generations. Since i'm keeping my SSD, i got the barebone variant and ordered 32 gix of dual channel Kinston Fury Impact 5600 CL40 RAM. That OCUlink port really sold it!
Price is what? $2000?
Hey Eta, please make an video of this oculink-dock, this would be great 🙂
Agreed , I’m interested into the full blown card vs the compact oculink setups you had going , great review!
Thanks!
does it have the proper hdmi 2.1? like full 48Gbs, so im able to play at 4k 120hz HDR and VRR?
I really want Ultrabooks with oculink in 2024
Please consider including running linux desktops on your reviews as well as all the windows game stuff you already do.
Why should s/one choose 780xtx instead of HX80g for gaming ? (other than the size). Prices in amazon Germany are almost identical.
im really wondering how much RAM was allocated to the GPU. if you said it i missed it. Would like to see it maxed out and the GPU to be overclocked and the CPU tuned
I ordered of these PC's but I am super interested in building that eGPU dock you made. Can you share what's needed?
Thanks for the video very good information, thank you.
Please show more on these eGPUs!
As these start to go up a little in spec and down a little in price they will be pretty compelling.
What mini pc would you say is better UM780XTX or the 790 pro?
I see plenty of requests here for the proposed comparison, but id really like to see noise measurements on the cou cooler. I've been looking for this kind of information for a PC in a noise sensitive environment (Studio recording). Would add a lot of value to your videos for viewers. Thanks for hughlighting these machines!
I bought a UM780 XTX from Amazon, which stopped working after a few days. Customer service was not helpful. I am not a fan of Minisforum products.
Hi ETA Prime... could that oculink adapter be used on the rog ally 1 with the adapter you showed in one of your videos to install full size m.2? Could you test it?
I have these good component level technicians who fixed it for me
Can the RGB thing be disabled ? That's the only negative to the box it seems ... I am not a fan of glowing PCs ...
I have a spare red devil 5700 XT. Was thinking about using it with this setup. Would that be a worthy bump in performance or a waste of time? thanks in advance!
