Bravo! Under Sir Mark Elder's baton, the Scherzo movement of Beethoven's masterpiece could at times be characterized as a perfect and Mozart or Rossini-esque operatic overture. A brilliant new light and singular perspective on Beethoven.

This movement is underrated! Most people think only about the first movement of the Eroica - if they know the Eroica at all!

I noticed that the Cellos and Basses split up. Although this is interesting, but what purpose does this serve?

Ross Lemon each orchestra has a different reason for it but mainly it allows the bass to be heard across the stage instead of in one section on the stage just like how the violins are on either side to allow treble to be heard across the stage
