    The KLR250 actually was made from 1984 until 2005 (21 years).

    I just purchased a 1997 with 2600 original miles ( 113 miles a year) on it with maybe 2 scratches. You said you stole that one, I stole this one also for $1k in mint conditon barely broke in. Very happy!!!

      i dont mind paying even $2k for a nice one...there is a nice one in my area with 3k miles and really clean...but seller wants $3.5k...very tempting because not too many are selling dual sports in my area

    I recently got a 2004 250 didn't run so I replaced the piston rings *after 80'000 miles it had 65 psi so I replaced those looked brand new in the engine and then it had a electric problem replaced everything cdi pulsator and coil didnt work 😑 TURNS OUT one of the previous owners looked the kickstand safety switch off so I sliced thos 2 wires together and it works great and now I have a whole spare electrical system I love how good of condition your bike is great video as well are those the trails that you ride alot?

    If you want more horse power get a 300 mohive cylinder and piston kit, also buy a mohive cylinder head, mohive is a quad, I did that to my 1989 klr 250 and a super trapp muffler with half of the plates and rejet the carb 3 sizes up on the needle one slot down to bring the needle up also two sizes up on the idle jet

    im starting a rebuild on a 2000 model of course it needs a new rear shock..

  • @michaelschmidt4618
    @michaelschmidt4618 3 года назад +1

    Next buy a klr650 rear shock and widen out the inside of the lower mount to fit the 250, totally rebuildable also get a 500 pound spring and have it put in so you can carry your sweetheart

    Hey! Im about to get a 1997 klr250. Are they good> Is it true that they're slow as hell?

    • @Jeep843
      @Jeep843  4 года назад +3

      i've heard that the earlier models had a higher horsepower rating it changed from something like 38 to 30 (dont quote me on that), but this one has plenty of power and pick up. I havent had the chance to really open it up on the trails near my house because theyre all pretty small, however, its a trail bike so i'm not really trying to break any land speed records. In short, i'm please with the power output of the bike!

      Hey I happen to own a 1998 KLR250 or on paper (KL250-D15) I can tell you the horse power on the 80's and early 90's models was about 28hp at the crank (being chain drive, I doubt there is much loss to the rear wheel..) and the mid to late 90's like my 98 and your 97 should have 22hp with the stock carb... IF you upgrade the carb to a larger one, or just re-jet the existing CVK carb and get a exhaust then it should make mid 30hp range like Hunter said. lol In comparison to my last two dirt bikes (CRF230F, and YZ426F) both modified beyond what is acceptable, I'd say the 250 is right in the middle as it should be... The 230 might be a little more snappy in the low end but when you wind out the KL250 it definatly picks up and has more to it than a 230cc bike does.. but its absolutely not going to keep up to a 400-450 class bike, the suspension is like a Cadillac/Mercedes its not meant to jump thats for sure but its smooth in every situation. A good all around bike in my opinion.

      They are slow its only a 250. But they are great. Just found an 87 with 4500 miles. Check my channel

      My 96 is all stock , I live at 5000 feet elevation , I ride on the interstate daily , knobby tires and all very well built bikes , parts are available and cheap on Revzilla.com.
      You can ride this for 5 years and it will not see a mechanic , if you do normal maintenance.

    The 250 went from 87 ( maybe a few years earlier
    ?! ) to 05 / 06, after that it became the KLX all the way, could be wrong but I believe 03 / 04 was when the KLX started. The Super Shepa and the Mojave are similar engines

    To answer the question below... all 250 dual sports are slow as hell.

    • @IceCubeJohnson
      @IceCubeJohnson 4 года назад

      65 up a reasonable hill, 80+ downhill.

    • @jhackett9482
      @jhackett9482 2 года назад

      Yeah I mean it’s slow compared to a lot of other modern bikes but for me it’s about perfect. Doesn’t do bad on short highway runs.
