This is the first game in the series where I believe stats matter just as much as the types your team has. More specifically, having things sporting high HP and defenses. Because of the new turn system, you WILL be taking hits rather than being able to sweep without taking damage with a fast sweeper like you could in the past, so having a couple tanky Mons on the team is critical. My Ursaluna and Goodra were key to getting me through the toughest fights in the game as a result.
That’s interesting. I wonder at what point in the game that becomes most relevant, because so far my high defense pokemon aren’t doing great since they get doubled a lot and don’t have the sustain to keep going. Any tips?
@@emblemblade9245 It probably does matter more the further in the game you are. And I would say it isn’t that typing become irrelevant. One of the reasons Ursaluna and Goodra did so much work for me is they have a lot of resistances and immunities between them, so sending out the right thing for the job helps. All of that said, one tip is that I would make sure you are using grit to boost your Effort Levels on the bulky Mons you have, and specifically prioritize HP, then Defenses. My Ursaluna is my team’s MVP because of this, eats Hydro Pumps in spite of type disadvantage and being ganged up on for breakfast. Another tip is make sure those bulky Mons have a defensive stat boosting move and Rest, then two offensive moves. For Ursaluna I use Bulk Up/Rest, for Goodra Shelter/Rest. Lead the fight with the stat boosting move, then start attacking and Rest when needed; re-use your stat move when it runs out. Even with drowsiness reducing how often you will attack, after the stat boost I don’t find it incapacitates me enough to matter. My Ursaluna was single-handedly able to wipe half the opposing team on every one of the hardest teams you face in the game with this strat.
@@pathos7527 that actually lines up with what I experienced with using my beloved tangrowth and realizing he is kinda bad defensively for this game cause no regenerator, leech seed, and pure grass just not working out which is a real shame. I also think you are right about using the grit for defensive use because you can just augment your attack and speed more with strong and agile style
While I do agree with hisuian Zoroark having an amazing type combination, it's not very...useful in legends arceus since almost everyone has bite/crunch xD
The issue isn’t everything having Bite/Crunch tbf, it’s lack of Abilities. Because it doesn’t have access to Illusion it can’t fool the AI so it can’t misdirect to take less effective attacks from enemies.
With ghost you also left out that almost every threat in the game likes to drop a strong style HB/GI, double edge, or close combat. Which whiffs beautifully against ghost... Until they use crunch or high horsepower/earth power at least
Finally got my Hisuian Zorua. Wish it was available earlier in the game so I could really spend time with it because I absolutely love the design of it and Hisuian Zoroark, and they were both favorites in their original forms. But as a lover of ghost types, along with dark, the fact they got such a unique type pairing is awesome. Interested to see how or if they allow us to use Hisuian forms or the new evolutions of Pokemon introduced in L:A in future games. Because I love a lot of their designs and typings and would love to be able to use them in other games down the line. But seriously loving L:A and how its shaken up the series formula. Hope they tweak and improve it to use in future games going forward.
No matter how many weaknesses my man Arcanine has in this game, nothing will stop him from being my favorite Hisuian Pokemon by far! But man did they really pile on the weaknesses to these Noble Pokemon... Haha. Amazing video as always JPR!
It’s a shame Fire/Rock is such a weakness-filled type, because aesthetically I think it’s pretty cool. I wish Rock wasn’t weak to water, I feel like a case could be made for it
I totally understand. Hisuian lilligant is my new fave grass type. But one good flying, fire, ice, pyshic, fairy and poison but it can hit like a freaking fast bus. Still choose it as my grass coverage lol.
2:27 I feel this on so many levels man. Thundurus, Landorus + cohort never gave me any trouble, but tornadus gave me so much trouble, not only with the glalies everywhere, but also the terrain leaving me very susceptible to get hit by its random moves. But, at least they made the idea of roaming legendaries in this game competent and more challenging then tedious.
however decidueye did draw the short end of the stick here as it's the worst of the 3 Hisuian starters, plus lilligant exists who is a vastly superior pokemon
what i find really interesting is that usually Fire Water and Grass types are typically a must have for the games but in this game the only one i have is a water type because of my starter. im using pokemon and types that ive never thought of using before in the forms of my Drifblim and Rhypior. my drifblim has coverage on any pokemon where i need fire with mystic Flame and if i need an electric type move my rhypior knows thunder punch being a hard hitting physical attacker ive never been keen on Fairy types by Sylveon is a solid pick and i have mine knowing Magical leaf for if i need a grass type move. Mothim is awesome too i usually use either butterfree or Beautifly if i go bug type but Mothim is definately better since it can learn Psychic and Ghost type moves which helps out for if my Drifblim is out of commission. im just loving everything about this game and how its affording me the opprotunity to try out new pokemon ive never thought of using before
I dunno man. Those noble, trainer battles is so rare what you dont even need to consider it. Especially with new revenge kill mechanic. But in terms of fighting usual pokemon in the wild type list is similar, but not exact. For example water type is not that cool tbh, because most of enemies is normal, grass, bug and electric. Sure you can counter some geodudes, and other rock types but thats it. Fire types is so rare in Hisui, so in legend arceus they leave water types without a job. And electric is not that bad. With it you can counter common flying and water types.
Liligant may be the not great grass/fighting typing but special shout out has to go to its signature move, Victory Dance, which in this game boosts Atk, SpA, Def, and SpD, and gives a 50% boost to all damaging moves on top of that. Great stat spread on top of that meant she did a great job soloing a lot of fights without much trouble. Also while steel types might be middle of the road in this game, Hisuian Goodra being Steel/Dragon does an amazing job against a lot of major fights, especially the ones towards the end.
it also helps that goomy is available very early in the game in the 2nd area so while it can take time to get a goodra, it's well worth it in the long run
Had two ghosts on my team - Hisuian Zoroark and Basculegion, but somehow the MVP in the final post-game fight (managing to tank several attacks from the last last Pokémon and still live) was Decidueye. If it wasn’t for him, I couldn’t have revived the others that hit with super effective attacks and would’ve lost.
I wouldn't rank grass as badly as you say. It's not the best but hisuian lilligant still carried me throughout most of the game. Including against hisuian lilligant as mine had aerial ace. And lilligant gets the objectively best setup move in the game with victory dance. And that postgame fight you mentioned? I was able to do the majority of it with just lilligant. I'm not saying it's the best pokemon in the game or that grass is the best type, but I personally wouldn't put it in competition for the worst. Hisuian lilligant is good enough to save the entire type for me.
Indeed. Lilligant and Luxray were easily the MVP in my playthrought. Shinx has early access to ice fang and thunder wave making it a really strong option, and Lilligant is fast and hits hard, taking great advantage of the new battle system.
I do think Lilligant is a step above most Grass types in this game due to pairing nicely with Fighting, plus it's one of the fastest Pokemon in the region with a great signature move. I don't believe it carries the rest of the type, but it does make it better than Electric imo.
