Quick tip. Drill a 1/8” pilot hole in the steel plate then a 1/2” hole. The 1/2 drill bit has an area on the very tip that does not cut. The land slows the drill down.
and use tapping fluid or some kind of oil when drilling steel like that for Christs sake. no wonder that poor drill was struggling to perform as it should!
