      Because we don't know how to develop a quarterback. When you throw a kid in and expect perfection immediately you set yourself up to fail. Manning didn't do it, Brady didn't do it, Brees didn't do it, Young didn't do it, and Favre didn't do it. The only quarterback I've ever seen go crazy his rookie year is Stroud. So GMs will have to made decisions on college tape, a players talent, is the player coachable, do they think the player is capable of making the next step and succeeding with professional coaching, etc., when it comes to draft players. With that said, you have to make your best decision pick based on potential and your due diligence. Then hope everything you reviewed and planned happens. That’s all you can do. That’s the point in this case.

      @joeiborowski9763 9 месяцев назад +1

      I think he would had eventually. He probably would not had won 3 SBs, but his talent would had been recognized such as what happened to Stafford. Too much credit given to coaches. 80% of success is the quarterback, all the coach can do is set up best conditions, not perfect conditions for him. Matt Nagy was blamed for Fields failure, he goes to Kansas City as offensive coordinator and wins a SB with Mahomes with no decent receivers except Kelcie and the most dropped passes in the NFL. Same thing with Brady/Belicheck. Brady leaves to Tampa and wins another SB while Belicheck does nothing and gets fired this year wth a 4-13 record. And he was one of the winnigest coaches in NFL history? Why was that? How come his great "coaching skills" didn't transfer to success when Brady left? A good quarterback makes 4-5x more money than a good coach.
      Now tell me, who is more important for who's success?

    The Bears offense is nearly set (maybe a question on the O-Line) and we all know Caleb has talent. It's all about the OC and if he can make it work, and be flexible enough to tune/fix the offense when it doesn't. From my understanding of the reasoning Poles' gave for selecting Waldron - the latter quality is the reason he hired him. We'll see.
    I predict several _bad_ games by Caleb with several eye-opening, jaw-dropping (to a QB starved Bears fan, anyway) games in between that will remind us of why we selected him. Bears fans that keep predicting a deep playoff run need to temper their expectations and be realistic. Don't expect a Stroud-like season - those only come once in a millennia

Fields is gone so there's no whipping boy you can blame. If the Bears draft Caleb and he doesn't immediately take off the coach and GM have to go! If you expect Fields to win in one year when given one receiver I expect Williams to do better. I personally would still trade back and build for the haul like Poles once said.

      ok you say he did well but compared to 2022...
      His qbr went down
      His rating was the same
      He took more sacks.
      And barely cracked 2500 yards. In the end I don't totally disagree with you. But this was the obvious decision due to what the rookie QB contract allows for the rest of the roster. We had one cost controlled year of Fields before possibly overpaying for his services. I think it's telling that he didn't even land a starting job.

    • @creightonc8147
      @creightonc8147 9 месяцев назад +4

      Yeah Poles had to come in and clean house when he got here, Pace left a mess, bloated contracts, offense was a disaster, he didn’t have a choice and said exactly what he was going to do, tare it down. That wasn’t because of Justin, it was because of everything else. Poles never judged him on year 2, he understood the problems. But he did bring in Moore, he did draft Wright.
      He didn’t judge Justin based off the defense having a bad game. But he looked at other things, the slow drop back, the slow release, the hitches, the 4th quarter collapses and interceptions, the inability to throw over the middle. These are not scheme problems, they are not issues with personnel, these are QB problems. He didn’t play well enough.
      And now for some reason you want him to not keep improving the team. Guy did a tare down his first year, and look at all the pieces he has added in the following two off seasons. He plans to keep doing that because it’s what is best for the Bears.

    Stop it. If mahomes went to the Bears, he'd be in the same boat as trubisky. They're not a team that's good at developing a qb. They still need an o-line, they still need another TE, they need more receivers and a running game. The defense doesn't pass rush very well, their play is a rollercoaster. And apparently, we're ignoring that their HC is on the hot seat, the GM might be on the hot seat and unless they hired waldron to take eberfleus' job when he inevitably gets fired, there will be a new offensive system next year, too. I take no joy in saying this and I hope I'm wrong, the one consistent thread throughout all the failure has been ownership, until that isn't the case, I'm going to expect more of the same.
