Sébastien Loeb and Rhys Millen tested the notorious Pikes Peak Hill Climb for the first official practice session ahead of the 2013 race. The result of the team's first attempts at the course was particularly encouraging, which is great news for a track that is infamous for experiencing all four weather seasons in a single 12-minute run.

Loeb is a beast. And french cars, enginer (for a part), tires, do just an amazing job.
I've never seen a man look as relaxed as Loeb whilst driving, but huge respect to the both of them!

Despite what you may believe, drifting is almost always slower than taking a corner normally with a racing line.
@Yo ming no not always. Drifting is almost always faster on loose and slippery surfaces like gravel because of the understeer.

Didnt Pikes Peak use to be all dirt..I remember watching a video back in the day called Climb Dance with Ari Vatanen in a Peugeot...One of the best I have seen....

block's highest ranking was at WRC mexico 2013; 7th place the 13th you viewed on wikipedia refers to the championship leader board at the time not the actual placing in the rally before that he had a 9th place finish i am not a block fan but the thruth is he has guts and started rallying at an age when people retire so he will always lack the extra courage that comes with youthful vibe for glory rally portugal 2011 is an example.

So, we've got the suspension down. How about altitude change? Also, would the PPIHC be a fast enough track for the F1 car to maintain tire temp and downforce? Can they do well in snow (yes, it snows sometimes during the July hill climb)? I would love to see some crazy open wheel action at the Peak!

When i speak about enginer i think lot of time on Airbus enginers and they are not all french. European enginer and especialy french in aeronautic are amazing. Kourou spacial base in Guyane is full of amazing enginers for exemple.

New Colorado law requiring all roads to be paved. Unfortunately the stretch in this historic race was not exempt. We can dwell on the past all we want but we must push forward and see the new excitement a paved road can give. I wish I could have seen an all dirt race way back when.
Not everyone in America is as "Block crazed" as this guy. That being said, most Americans have never heard of the WRC or would care about Loeb's nine consecutive titles.
Also, if Loeb doesn't smash the record in the 208 T16 I'll be really surprised

Rhys Millen is one of the world's best drifters and an incredible driver. Loeb is more famous than Block, he is also the best rally driver EVER

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it (and I mean in person; I live in Colorado Springs). I'm just wondering what the technical implications would be of having an F1 style car on a bumpy track with that much of a change in altitude. I should think Red Bull would be fielding one were it feasible.

what kind of mpg do you get climbing the mountain?
Now thats its pavement the difficulty is much lower, however, Pikes Peak is extradonarily difficult from a technical perspective given the 10,000 ft. change in altitude from start to finish. The weather also can range from 80F to below freezing along the route.
Loeb is the Best driver In the world and i think he Will once again demonstrate what is a car driver! You ll see it...

Please compare Röhrls car and Loebs car. The S1 was a beast and it was hard to control. This Peugeot is a modern hightech monster, it's easier to control. Also when Röhrl drove there wasn't any asphalt on the complete track, only gravel. So if you're still thinking that Loeb is the best rallyedriver, continue dreaming ;)
