I have been having issues with using my own character Lacey Alexis Sanchez (my avatar here) in D&D. I keep feeling like I’m holding her back, since Lacey Alexis is a powerful, bitchy, elitist military brat who’s been raised from birth on the knowledge that (as a Sanchez) she’s superior and more powerful than everyone around her for being a demigod and trained as an assassin. However, in the interest of not being That Guy, I feel like dialing back on her abrasiveness and forcing her to work with the party (though she does justify it as a type of “You’re going to see the Wizard too? Might as well follow you” which feels like a compromise) but it still feels out of character.

Tulok just doesn't mention the languages, tools or background feats because they hardly ever matter for a character (I can only think of a few that would require a specific tool proficiency).

  • @YoWhatGoesHere
    @YoWhatGoesHere 4 года назад +92

    Here's my Version.
I didn't want to dump Charisma, especially when we can get two spell classes that use it.
Charisma isn't just talking well or being charming. Intimidation, Persuasion and Deception are all based on charisma as well.
Anyone who can lock themselves alone with a king in his chamber, accuse them of sleeping with their sister and then having her killed and live to tell about it is all kinds of charismatic.
We dump INT but bump it with an ASI
I suggest using point buy for this one but if you are going standard:
    15 Strength
    10 Dexterity
    14 Constitution
    8 Intelligence
    13 Wisdom
    12 Charisma
    Variant Aasimar
2 charisma 1 wisdom ability increase
    darkvision
resistance to necrotic and radiant damage (yep, you're a witcher 'arry)
    speak celestrial (elder speech)
Celestrial Legacy: know the light cantrip. *1st (baby's first igni), Lesser Restoration *5th (heals you or an ally from the blinded, deafened, paralyzed, or poisoned condition once per long rest.)
and Daylight *7th (idk, call this quen for vampires maybe?)
    Background: Folk Hero
Skill Proficiencies in land vehicles, Survival and one other skill (Arcana, Medicine or Nature could work here but I went with History)
Artisans Tool proficiency - Alchemists Supplies.
    Equipment
    Chain Mail
2 Matial Weapons - Take 2 Great Swords and silver one as soon as you can afford it.
Light Crossbow and 20 bolts - swap this for a hand crossbow as soon as you can.
    A set of Alchemists Supplies
    Leve1 1 - Fighter
    Take Animal Handling and Athletics.
    Take Great Weapon Fighting
    Second Wind
    Level 2 Fighter
    Action Surge
    Level 3 Figher
    Eldrich Knight
Weapon Bond (bond with your swords)
Take firebolt (igni) and gust (yrden) for your first two cantrips
Take Thunderwave (aard) Shield (quen) and charm person (axii) as your first three spells
    Level 4 Fighter
    ASI or Feat
    Take the Athlete feat
    Increase Srength to 16
    absorb elements (heliotrope)
    Level 5 Fighter
    Extra Attack
    Level 6 Fighter
    ASI or Feat
    Take Great Weapon Master
    Level 7 Paladin
    Divine Sense (Witcher Medalion)
    Lay on Hands
    Level 8 Paladin
Fighting Style, Take Defense for the extra AC
    We're here for the Smites.
You can prepare 3 new spells and know a bunch of good ones.
pick two from Command, Compelled Duel, Heroism, detect evil and good, Detect Poison and disease, Detect Magic and Protection from good and evil
Pick a Smite (searing, thunderous or wrathful)
I tend to go with protection from evil and good (yrden) , detect evil (more witcher medalion stuff) and wrathful smite but you do you
    Level 9 Paladin
You get Divine Health making you immune to disease (Witcher Mode Fully Engage)
Sacred Oath - Go Oath of the Crown
Champion Challenge - Each creature of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature can’t willingly move more than 30 feet away from you.
Turn the Tide. As a bonus action,. Each creature of your choice that can hear you within 30 feet of you regains hit points equal to 1d6 + your Charisma modifier if it has no more than half of its hit points.
Since this means Compelled Duel and Command are now always prepared and don't count against your number of prepared spells allowed, if you had those prepared pick a couple new ones.
I would stick with wrathful smite and detect evil and grab detect magic for more witcher medalion fun
    Level 10 Fighter
War Magic (when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action.) for a bit of sign and smash.
Take Gust of Wind for some better aard action
Level 11 and 12 are both ASI slots. One for Fighter one for Paladin. Pick in whichever order you wish.
    I started with
    Level 11 Fighter
and picked up web for more yrden
and bumped charisma up to 16 for more power to the paladin spells.
Then take the other ASI, for me that was Paladin
Add two more spells to your prepared spells list (I went with Heroism and Thuderous Smite)
Also bump Intelligence up to 10 to finally take that out of the negative.
    Level 13 Warlock
    Patron - Hexblade
    Hexblades Curse
Hex Warrior - you already have your swords bonded, use this on your crossbow.
We finally get new cantrips. Take Friends for Axii and Blade ward for more Quen
    Level 14 Warlock
    Edrich Envocations
Take Beguiling Influence for proficiency in Deception and Persuasion
    Take Devils Sight.
With eyes like those they better be good for something.
You also get 3 more spells:
Take Armor of Agathys and Hellish Rebuke for more yrden action and Hex to start really stacking damage with your pokey sticks.
    Level 15 Warlock
    Path of the Tome
Take Guidance, Vicious Mockery and Resistance because Geralt is more than a dude who plays with swords.
Take Shatter giving aard more bite.
    Level 16 Warlock
ASI. More Charisma = More Power.
Take Thunderclap (aard) giving you a cantrip for every sign.
Add blur to make quen a bit more potent.
*somewhere in these last couple levels we also got an extra paladin spell to prepare, take detect poison and disease.
    Level 17 Fighter
    Indomidable
    Level 18 Fighter
    Eldrich Strike
    True Strike
Scorching Ray for a bit more Igni
    Level 19 Fighter
    Extra Attack
Burning Hands for even more Igni
    Level 20 Fighter
ASI - I bumped Strength to 18 here but you can put this wherever you feel you need it most at this stage.
    How strong is it?
With 160 HP and AC 17 you don't look like a tank but neither does the real Geralt.
You have a ton of buff and defensive signs, a pool of 20 lay on hands points, turn the tide and second wind plus resistance to necrotic and radiant damage, immunity to disease and the alchemical know how and indomitable will to keep in the fight far longer than most.
With 3 attacks, hexes, smites, great Weapon Fighting, Great Weapon Master and a bit of offensive signage you can do a lot of damage. and with action surge you can do it twice.
The weaknesses are that because the build dumps INT, your fighter spells are a bit weak, but your paladin and warlock spells are pretty good.
It also has the common problem of having a lot of concentration spells. But That is kind of the nature of signs so it is what it is.
You probably should be sticking to spamming the cantrip versions most of the time anyway, using the more powerful versions only in an emergency. You've got 2 big swords, a crossbow and a whole lot of smiting monsters to do.
Note: you also have the option to forgo the Paladin ASI level for an extra fighter level if you'd rather pick up a 3rd level spell like fireball, counterspell or fast friends etc. I didn't but you could.

I don't think dumping Intelligence is a good idea for Geralt. You're not going for booksmart, you're aiming for someone good at history, nature, arcana, and religion. The build you have absolutely works, but I definitely agree Geralt should dump Charisma. He is not good at convincing people to change their minds, or honey-coating anything he says. He is blunt & dry, but people listen to what he says because he's right. Well, sometimes they listen. Too many don't.
Charisma is convincing the King to confess without locking the King's advisors outside. Charisma is being able to talk someone into doing something because of the way you say it.
Jaskier can talk people into throwing coins Geralt's way because of the way he says it. Geralt, by comparison, is lucky if he can convince the person who hires him to pay him at all.
      Still like your build!

I'd say that this is a pretty good build. The only thing I personally might do differently, is to go for the Monster Hunter subclass for the fighter from the Gothic Heroes Unearthed Arcana.
It gives you some extra proficiencies (if you didn't have them already), Superiority Dice and some nice abilities to spend them on, especially Sharpened Senses and Superior Willpower.
It also gives you Detect Magic as a ritual, and one free Protection from Evil and Good per long rest. The level 7 ability, Monster Slayer, really caps it off, since it allows you to add an extra Superiority Die to damage rolls, and it maxes out the damage from those dice against aberrations, fey, fiends and undead, really making you deal massive damage against the targets you hunt.

I love this up until Cavalier it doesn't really fit Geralt. In 99% of cases Geralt fights on foot as a normal fighter and not on horseback. I feel he should be a Battle Master, Eldtrich Knight, or Monster Hunter. Any of those 3 archetypes bring things that work for Geralt as a character much more than Cavalier.
Battle Master brings maneuvers which are things Geralt uses all the time specifically Disarming Attack, Evasive Footwork, Parry, and Riposte he uses these a lot. In addition there is Know Your Enemy which is something that works very well with Favored Enemy and is something Geralt would intrinsically have. He'd be able to see certain creatures and based on information he has on that type of creature or similar creatures he could deduce certain traits of that creature.
Eldritch Knight works well seeing as Geralt is a fighter who uses magic. It brings Weapon Bond which would work well since Geralt depends on his sword/s so much. It has War Magic which would let Geralt use a cantrip and still make a weapon attack which works with him Geralt could then use Aard(Gust) to knock back an enemy that could get an opportunity attack and then go and attack a different enemy. And Eldritch Strike is something he'd learn after years of experience using his signs and fighting. The only downsides to Eldritch Knight is it uses Intelligence and not Wisdom and the other 2 archetypes are better for Geralt imo.
Monster Hunter what else can I say this UA class is literally Geralt. It has Combat Superiority which brings things to the table that Geralt needs. Such as Superior Willpower Geralt has a strong mind and is resistant to things that affect his mind, Sharpened Senses Geralt is very perceptive and has strong senses so this further enhances his perception, and Precision Attack/Sharpened Attack are added bonuses. Hunter's Mysticism gives a free use of Protection from Evil and Good along with another language. Next we have Monster Slayer letting you expend 2 dice when adding damage to an aberration, fey, fiend, or undead you add the die maximum so that's 16 damage. And finally we get Improved Combat Superiority making those Superiority Dice D10's.
All in all this is a great Geralt build up to Fighter 3 where it uses an archetype that doesn't quite work with the character and makes the build miss out on things that match Geralt far better.

I came up with a build that lets you play master chief from Halo:
highest scores must be con, intelligence (this will make sense later), and strength.
Variant human: take heavy armor feat, boost con and intelligence. speaking of feats, grab war caster and tough asap, and possibly tavern brawler for all the punching he does.
first class: fighter. there are several ways we could go in terms of subclass; you could do cavalier to emulate all the vehicles Chief gets into, but champion would be indicative of his nature as a super soldier. I chose eldritch knight, since we're going to need as many spell slots as possible here (this will make sense later). for fighting style, take defense. also, the second wind can emulate the health packs from combat evolved.
second class: abjuration wizard. you get a freaking energy shield, created and recharged by the casting of abjuration spells. but this shield will only be up for as long as you can cast abjuration spells to recharge it, hence eldritch knight.
all these spells can be used to emulate the non-shooty stuff chief does throughout the games. the shatter spell can emulate his grenades, for example, fireball his spnkr, levitate emulates that lift he can deploy in 3, deployable cover and the bubble shield probably have analogues too, etc.
    also, use this picture: imgur.com/EO4KeoC
build pros: tankius maximus, decent damage.
cons: probably low charisma, not likely much in skills department

A nice substitution might be to pick up Magic Initiate with one of those ASI's. Wizard list gives you Firebolt (Igni), Ray of Frost (Aard gets some cold effects later), and Shield (Quen). Could do that, forego the level of Druid, and then make up the ASI at Fighter 12.

Neat build. I built my version of Geralt for a series of a short high level wither themed homerew campaign. I took 6 lvl of Bladesinger, 4 of Scout Rogue for the Natureystuff and 6 level battlemaster. My friend played a bear school witcher with heavy armor. He multiclassed Eldricht Knight 7 With Ranger 9 at the start of the campaign. We both took the Reborn race from Van Richtens. Poison resistance and advantage on poison saves and meditating instead of sleeping is just pure witcher. We both reflavored spells as bombs and of course signs. I achieved a stand in for blade oils through the feat Gift of the Chromatic Dragon. My buddy through the Elemental Weapon spell. But I quite like this version of Geralt. I might try something similar in the future.

    Alternative build for this:
You only need a druid level for the Spells. You can take magic initiate for the cantrips and charm person, but you'd have to sacrifice protection. However this leaves you with ranger 7/x 13, or Ranger 8/X12.
Take the 7-8 levels of ranger and depending on how you feel, go hunter or monster Slayer. The latter will give you the spell you dropped from druid, and hunter'd multi attack fits well thematically for the way that Geralt is described when fighting (pirouetting). The potential extra level will give you the ASI needed for the magic initiate feat. It will also grant you land's stride, which fits in character.
Next hop over to monk, specifically Kensei. Yes, unarmored defense doesn't really work for this build, but all the other stuff does. 11 levels of kensei will bring your swordsmanship to the legendary status Geralt is known for, as well as unarmed proficiencies that we see in the series. There are in canon instances of him being fast enough to deflect crossbow bolts, and you can use ki to overcome resistances
Depending on how many levels of ranger you have (7 or 8) we have 1-2 levels to play with. If you have seven levels of ranger, 2 more monk levels will give you a final ASI and tongue of the sun and moon, which can be reflavored to being well read. Or you can go fighter for the extra fighting style and action surge. Ranger 8 has a similar path, with one less level to play around with
Regardless of how you build it, have fun!

For me I'm gonna make my own Witcher OC *(don't fuckin judge, if I'm gonna be Geralt of Rivia I'd just go play the Witcher 3)* so, I'd just go for a Fighter/Ranger multiclass, Eldritch Knight at 3rd lvl fighter keep going until lvl 5 Fighter for the extra attack then go into Ranger until 3rd lvl to get the Monster Slayer archetype then mix and match as I see fit until lvl 20, my race would be Variant Human slightly homebrewed to get redish orange cat-like eyes and Darkvision, my spells would be Burning Hands for Igni, Shield for Quen, Hold Person/Hold Monster for Yrden, Charm Person for Axii, and Thunderwave for Aard, my background would be Outlander with the Bounty Hunter origin, and my fighting styles would be Dueling and Defence, I'm choseing Dueling because Longswords are versatile weapons and by Witcher lore Witchers like to have a free hand to cast their signs, Defense for the extra armor point, seeing how this is my own Witcher OC, I don't really need a horse, but I'll talk to my DM about buying one during the campaign when I can, so yeah, I made this build a bit simpler 😊👍, also if I could be a Witcher in real life I'd very much would like to be in the School of the Wolf 😄

Only thing I would add, instead of taking the defense fighting style, take the "blind fighting" style from the alternate class features UA. Geralt has been clearly shown to be excellent at fighting while unable to see, mentioning in the games that he could beat people "even if I had a bag over my head". You can then take fog cloud to blind your foes, and demonstrate your superior senses by fighting unhindered in them, this also gives you advantage on all attacks while you fight them in the cloud.

Most of thr druid dip was these cantrips, anyway. Youll lose the 1st level spells, sadly, but you'll get access to Medium Armor (no more metal restriction), and you can snag 3rd level ranger spells. Witchers are enchanced in comparison to normal humans but what makes them unequalled fighters is their speed and techique rather than a brute strenght. Monsters often are so strong they could destroy every withcher in one blow and its only their dexterity that allows them to avoid the heaviest blows.

    *THE DOCTOR*
From Doctor Who, any regeneration or just The Doctor in general. I'm thinking Lore Bard with maybe some levels in Cleric and Artificer.
    Are Time Lords Aasimar?
Leomund's Tiny Hut but it's Mordenkainan's Magnificent Mansion on the inside.
    Mage Hand+Knock= Sonic Screwdriver?
    But how does regeneration work?

Maybe this is too on the nose, but a changeling? That way, you can "die" and come back as someone different.
Also, Artificer is an official class now, so that's probably the closest thing to a sciencey type.

If you are going with blood hunter I would recommend following the same stats and using great weapons and when it comes to what order I would say either lycan(Geralt is called the white wolf) or mutant(witchers are technically mutants) but I would go with the first for survivability and tracking for race maybe go human variant because action economy and finally you can dip fighter for action surge and a another fighting style most likely defense if you are going to be on the front lines.

    • @Troleandocreyentes
      @Troleandocreyentes 4 года назад

@@FirstnameLastname-kn5sw I was actually thinking in a Fighter/Artificer, if you see army of darkness he bulid a mechanic hand, gun powder, and modify his car in a war machine, and in evil dead 2 he chop his hand and modify a chainsaw into a prostetic hand, and maybe sprinkle a little of paladin to have protection against the evil.

Also, thanks for making Geralt. Someone I know wants to play a Witcher and all I could find online were these super OP builds that I don't think any DM (and party, for that matter) would allow for anything save for a single-player one shot. I don't think the Bloodhunter lines up with the Witcher perfectly, to be honest. Dark as Witcher origin stories are, they don't damage themselves every time they want to attack.

drop strength, bring charisma up take 3 levels in warlock hexblade, take pact blade as your boon at level 3, when summoning your blade make it look like Geralt's. You can alternatively take 5 levels in warlock and get the warlock smite but that's not necessary, next take ranger for 6 levels and take the gloom stalker subclass, so you can get that sweet sweet advantage, also if the monster your tracking relies on darkvision it will not see you coming as you'll be invisible so long as you stay in the shadows. After take fighter for the rest and take either battle master or cavalier, if you take caviller take the feat: Mounted Combatant.
