Hidden trick: you can repair almost any S class upgrade module with a C class upgrade module of the same type. The reason is that these modules, regardless of class, can be dismantled to yield the same materials (rounded down from its base cost) needed to pay for the repair costs (rounded up from its base cost). For example, if you wanted to repair a broken S class Pulse Engine module, just install a C class Pulse Engine module, dismantle it, and repair the S class module with the gained materials. Works almost every time except for a few technologies like Rememberance and the Pulsing Heart Node.

I find it really important to note that I feel you should have added a really important point to this video. You actually make a ton of EXTRA money if you augment the ship to 48 storage slots, then sell it (never augment the technology slots on a ship you intend to sell as they don't add to the value). This way, the rate you accumate storage augs is slower but you're making tons of $ and nanites at the same time. I sold an S class tri-wing this way for 120 Million and bought it for 7 million
Very true, but early on you will still limit your storage augments. If you use 20 storage augments you won't get all those back, so it makes sense to lose money early in order to build your stock pile of storage augments.

You can do this with A-class ships as well for nanites. A-class have given me up to 4 modules per ship scrapped, which is more nanites than you got from your S-class. Also you don't really lose units because you can sell the scrap parts and make up the negative equity you had scrapping it. Some of those parts are pretty expensive too.

Great video... this worked out so well for me I went to the anomaly and started handing out storage augmentations and module upgrades as a way to pay it forward. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
when you fill out an S or A ship with the storage augmentations, the price often goes way up and you can sell an S or A ship that way. (Be careful though to not buy an A ship of eg 40 million, the effect will be minimal is my experience). You can then scrap the ship with lots of profit. I am aware Jason knows this, just for the people reading the comments.

Great video Jason! I just got back from a trip there, where I scrapped 4 of them and kept the 5th one; I never owned a squid ship and the one I kept had 19 slots.
Nice! Don't forget, you can max that thing out and it will be so awesome. Exotic ships have great general stats, more of a jack of all trades kinda ship

I like to keep scrapping after I get the storage slots filled on my ship then get more and upgrade all the general slots on a few S class ships with storage augments then sell and make most or all my $ back from earlier.
you arent making even close to your money back, as part of the value you get from scrapping the ships included the sell price of the storage augments. so buying the ship for 10m and upgrading storage to scrap it for 110m isnt giving you a 100m profit after you figure in the mods and augments you got from scrapping.
@@jjmitch87 If you buy an S ship, and then fill it storage until it opens up a new section it moves the ship from one tier of pricing to the next, and causes a massive increase in the sell price, so you loose 1/3 of the buy price, so say 3 of 10 mil, but then you sell it for 30mil instead, easily making back your money. I just checked while upgrading my newest S* ship (not the squid) and it went from 48 mil sell value to 120,500,000 sell value, so if I sold it I would easily recoup the 30% sell price tax, and the +/- 1mil per upgrade slot 'purchase price' of the augments
I think you can still do this with any class ship, it just isnt as worthwile (it gives less storage augmentation units and worse class upgrades which sell for less nanites) but it is still doable
No Jason, but I don't believe so. If you look at the icon on the ship, it's a player's ship. To be fair, I don't know if living ships land on space stations and trading posts, if they do, then probably?
UPDATE: This no longer works. (2.19.22) Great vid but it ain't happening here on PS4 no more. Too bad, I wasn't looking to exploit anything beyond just finding a single squid ship for my collection. The hunt continues...
PRO TIP (No bait): If you want to put a ship "on hold" (dont want the ship to leave the station but dont want to buy it yet just to see if a better one comes later on - kinda important if you want to save the 30%, just, WAIT FOR IT....................... Jump on top of the ship. The ship wont leave the station until you come down but you can continue to scout for newer ships incoming until you decide to either buy that one or go for a different one) Thank me later ;)

3 BILLION units? Cray cray. Wish I never stopped playing. Beautiful game and they have done a great job since the release. I played right when it came out for a month or so. Maxed all achievements but two.
Niche tip to go along with scrapping: Do it in a system that pays more for power generation items (manufacturing/mining?) Then when you scrap an expensive ship you usually get an expensive power source that sells for a few mill an selling it at a good + demand along with the other 700k + items can help you break even scrapping. Started last night doing it with 18m with 2-5m ships, got couple thousand nanites from the mods and money stayed at 18m and change only did 4-5 ships so might have been rng but its a theme ive noticed because i go scrapping alot to save up the storage augs when i don't have time to explore so ive tried to minimise unit loss. Still think landing on a lush world an wondering around digging up data is more chill to get nanites though but i like the 'rng' of the items you get scrapping if you go long term profits not breaking even or losing money you can store them all up and sell them where most profitable all together when you're passing through rather then straight away at whatever station you're on.
Something you can do to get these for free is get an insanely expensive ship exchange it, then quickly run over to your original ship and claim it for free. It's how I buy the majority of my ships now if I can help it. Note however that this trick ONLY works in SPACE STATIONS. Don't try this at an outpost, or on your frigate.
Just a side note, when you do this while multi-player is active. If you let someone grab the squid first and let them scrap it, it'll trigger the glitch that allows you to upgrade your living ships.
Do I have to be in the same Galaxy? when I go thru the portal the planet looks a bit different and the space color is blue for me instead of Pink no matter how many times I enter the code, also the ship doesn't come
you make brilliant videos and you are really helpful in helping people I have followed your videos and that's how I got my Exotic Squid ship so thanks for your help mate love your videos mate
Squid isn’t here on xbox one version. Reloaded auto save 5 times and waited for the ships to cycle 3-4 times. Had a variety of different class ships, not even one s class ship.
This channel turned me into the Wolf of the Euclid Galaxy. Gayest fucking term, best way to describe it though. I literally have billions of units and nanites, I’m literally throwing them away at this point, unlocked everything thanks to this channel lol
You actually don't lose that much money and sometimes gain some depending on what you get after scrapping. Some of the items that are just for selling can be woth in excess of a million.
when it says it will scrap for 5m, it is giving you parts, including the storage augments, that sell for a total of 5m. so no, you wont ever make money from doing this (or get close to breaking even) unless you were given everything by a friend already.
This looks to have been patched, at least on PS4, spent over an hour reloading saves and not only is there no 'first wave' squid ship I've gotten zero to spawn in that over an hour of save loading.
This has definitely been patched out. After trying repeatedly without seeing a squid I went to comments and noted not a single post stating this worked during the past 7-8 months
I scrap on lots of stations, and any that have lots of A and B class ships can also be farmed to get the same amount of nanites per hour. If class A modules give half as many nanites, most locations can more than make up for it by having three or more times as many Class A ships as Class S. You end up making about the same number of nanites. The only difference would be in approach: you need at least 3 or 4 empty ship spaces so you can buy 3 or 4 ships at a time. And you have to be a little more efficient with your time since the waves can get busy. The S Class ships are more useful if you want to hoard S modules specifically to upgrade stuff, but since you have tons of nanites scrapping, you can easily just buy those as well. Of course if you want one of those exotics for yourself, then it's worthwhile.
if you're just after farming nanites, an even more effective way to do that is to use a Nutrient Processor to cook items for Cronus on the Nexus to sample, for which you'll be awarded a random number of nanites; veggie and meat stews work particularly well and are easy to make.
I never will understand why people dislike videos that are only here to help you. I always hit like that way I know if I have already watched videos. Don't think I have ever unliked a video, especially one of Jason's.
to everyone in the comments- no, you wont make more money by upgrading the ship before you scrap it. you wont break even either. the value of the storage augments you get from scrapping are included in the scrap value of the ship. lets say you scrap a 7m ship for 5m. you get parts, including storage augments, that combined sell for 5m. lets say storage augments sell for 500k (to make the math simple). and now lets say the ship you scrapped gave you 4 storage augments (4 selling for 500k each is 2m) and 3 other parts that sell for 1m each. this would give you the 5m scrap value. if you dont sell the storage augments, your scrap value went down from 5m to 3m. if you put those augments into a ship to sell it, the scrap value doesnt increase by the same value of the storage augments you put in. putting 20m of storage augments into a ship doesnt make it scrap for 20m more. it will always scrap for less than what you put into it. you will ALWAYS lose money from scrapping ships, unless it was a crashed ship that you did not repair the slots on or upgrade, as crashed ships dont have a cost to them if you didnt repair the broken slots. you will NEVER break even, its just not how the system was designed. you DO get ship mods basically for free, which can be sold for nanites or kept. those are the bonus, theyre not calculated into the scrap cost, as there is no conversion for units to nanites.
If you find a good enough crashed ship in that system you might be able to use the abandoned ship glitch to spend no cash on the Squid but I’m not sure if the ship locks in when you reload
as of Sept 18 whenever I use the first wave spawn ive set up in Eissantam, im only getting 1 storage augment. I was getting 3 before, but now im not so im confused.
I have followed this and other videos to a tee, I waited hours upon hours and tried loding the save hundreds of times, I have played for over 90 hours and not one time have I even seen one exotic.
Squid is still there. I pulsed to Space Station, reloaded, then flew out and summoned my freighter right outside the entry which forces a quick spawn of 8 ships. Then I scanned the ships that spawned, and the squid was the 2nd ship. I followed it into my freighter and bought it. I will export it into a save file on my PC, then delete it from my fleet and go chase down more exotics just for fun. :)
This is easily the most reliable "1st wave" ship I've found in the game. Thanks so much for this video - it solved a lot of problems for me - namely ship storage and nanites.
Oct 2020 - saw the tiger-striped top variant today. Had been buying/scrapping ships for about 20-30 mins. There were periodic times where I entered/exited my main ship to have an Auto Save Point (the ship it gave me after scrapping). I don't know if the spawn is related to total time/waves spent in the station or if the timer/waves reset after doing the Auto Save Point.
if you're not afraid of using some of those storage space augs, you can also gain a goo d amount of money this way too. The thing is, it does take time to build up enough to upgrade a ships loadout fully. So have at least 2 of the squids. Then take one and upgrade as you buy and sell the other, then once it's maxed you earned back all your money and some. It takes longer but well worth it.

Yeah man its definitely patched done this for about an hr and nothing.
Same
Yea tryin it myself and not not one squid has come through😭
I think you can still do this with any class ship, it just isnt as worthwile (it gives less storage augmentation units and worse class upgrades which sell for less nanites) but it is still doable
You are honestly my favourite nms youtuber!!
Mate, cleaning up with this. Have used this method before, but having the first wave S class make life so much easier. You Da man!!!
Your videos helped alot on here and I'm only 28hrs in the game and it's super fantastic!!! Thank you man
Best no man's sky videos right here, keep up the good work
Went back to Euclid and it was the third ship in TYVM Jason good work.
Awwwwesome. When I first get there a huge banner pops up and says 'Jason plays brought me here' lol pretty cool
Worked 4 out of 6 times for me on xbox too! Liquidator Pajulam did not look happy. Thx and subbed!!
Jason when you return to your ship there is a living ship in the hanger can that be bought and scrapped?
No Jason, but I don't believe so. If you look at the icon on the ship, it's a player's ship. To be fair, I don't know if living ships land on space stations and trading posts, if they do, then probably?
UPDATE: This no longer works. (2.19.22)
Great vid but it ain't happening here on PS4 no more. Too bad, I wasn't looking to exploit anything beyond just finding a single squid ship for my collection. The hunt continues...
Subbed and liked. Thanks for the video, this game is so fun!
I honestly didn't even realize that I wasn't subscribed but I got you! I made sure to subscribe because you do make some great videos, thanks!
Thanks for all your clips!! I just started playing on xbox. You are the man!!
Idk if you said it or not but do you have to be in the euclid galaxy?
Yes! I totally forgot to mention that. Good looking out Bazooka
PRO TIP (No bait): If you want to put a ship "on hold" (dont want the ship to leave the station but dont want to buy it yet just to see if a better one comes later on - kinda important if you want to save the 30%, just, WAIT FOR IT.......................
Jump on top of the ship. The ship wont leave the station until you come down but you can continue to scout for newer ships incoming until you decide to either buy that one or go for a different one)
Thank me later ;)
No thanks
@@BENYEET filling the quota?
thanks buddy
Yes I do t know why I was not a subscriber ether with how many of your videos I watched. So I fixed that now
Only been playing a couple of weeks, your videos are really helpful. This one is amazing....thanks 😊
I'm hopping on this soooo quick! I have a ton of ships to upgrade. Awesome video bro!
I subscribed. 😁 been watching your vids for a couple weeks now and never realized i didnt sub till now...
Just got back into NMS and your videos have helped the most to get me back into it. Thanks!
Best nms sky RUclipsr thanks for the help been playing 2 weeks today farmed for a large sentinel s class dreadnaught happy I got one found a large star destroyer too but my mate has that so we wanted to have large of each aha subscribed
Thanks man, went through several other videos before finally finding one that worked.
3 BILLION units? Cray cray. Wish I never stopped playing. Beautiful game and they have done a great job since the release. I played right when it came out for a month or so. Maxed all achievements but two.
Didn't realized I wasn't subbed. Stay up! Good content!
Might be nice to make it clearer that this is in Euclid, otherwise, great video, keep them coming. :)
Dang it, totally forgot about that
@@JasonPlaysNMS Got there eventually and now have me a fully maxed out Squiddy ship of my own. :)
FYI I got the notification. Love this method. Flip Cobalt so you have enough units to start. MAXED!
Nice man! This actually works! Gonna pimp up my starship like a god lol. Keep it up!
Do I have to be in the same Galaxy? when I go thru the portal the planet looks a bit different and the space color is blue for me instead of Pink no matter how many times I enter the code, also the ship doesn't come
Have to be in Euclid.
you make brilliant videos and you are really helpful in helping people I have followed your videos and that's how I got my Exotic Squid ship so thanks for your help mate love your videos mate
Squid isn’t here on xbox one version. Reloaded auto save 5 times and waited for the ships to cycle 3-4 times. Had a variety of different class ships, not even one s class ship.
Works great. Showed up almost every time. Sometimes as late as 10-15th ship.
Triforce + Trivial pursuit got me to subscribe. made me giggle :) great content too!
Yeah same man
Same here.
It’s now been patched on Xbox
Same
Have u tried doing the inventory refiner dupe a go
Love your videos Jason👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Helped me a lot to find some ships 😋
This has definitely been patched out. After trying repeatedly without seeing a squid I went to comments and noted not a single post stating this worked during the past 7-8 months
Do you know if that same ship still has a chance to spawn there still though? I can wait that ship is sick
Thanks man, Love your videos, Thank god I have a similar amount of units to you so I can do this a lot lol. Appreciate it
Nice!
Very good video, such a very nice way to show how to get a lot of nanites.
Great video, really informative. Subscribed!
if you're just after farming nanites, an even more effective way to do that is to use a Nutrient Processor to cook items for Cronus on the Nexus to sample, for which you'll be awarded a random number of nanites; veggie and meat stews work particularly well and are easy to make.
Yep, I waited for almost an hour and still no squid. Doesn't work any more... :(
Yeah, what a downer! Doesn't work for me either! JASON!!! Sort this out! ;)
and me too hahah
They have had a major update since then. I would suggest one of his other videos since they change how and where ships spawn every major update
I never will understand why people dislike videos that are only here to help you. I always hit like that way I know if I have already watched videos. Don't think I have ever unliked a video, especially one of Jason's.
Well I appreciate that! Truly! I like the thumbs down though, helps keep my ego in check 😊
to everyone in the comments- no, you wont make more money by upgrading the ship before you scrap it. you wont break even either. the value of the storage augments you get from scrapping are included in the scrap value of the ship. lets say you scrap a 7m ship for 5m. you get parts, including storage augments, that combined sell for 5m. lets say storage augments sell for 500k (to make the math simple). and now lets say the ship you scrapped gave you 4 storage augments (4 selling for 500k each is 2m) and 3 other parts that sell for 1m each. this would give you the 5m scrap value. if you dont sell the storage augments, your scrap value went down from 5m to 3m. if you put those augments into a ship to sell it, the scrap value doesnt increase by the same value of the storage augments you put in. putting 20m of storage augments into a ship doesnt make it scrap for 20m more. it will always scrap for less than what you put into it.
you will ALWAYS lose money from scrapping ships, unless it was a crashed ship that you did not repair the slots on or upgrade, as crashed ships dont have a cost to them if you didnt repair the broken slots.
you will NEVER break even, its just not how the system was designed.
you DO get ship mods basically for free, which can be sold for nanites or kept. those are the bonus, theyre not calculated into the scrap cost, as there is no conversion for units to nanites.
I’m new to the game and your videos have helped me A LOT, subscribed to help you get to 100k
If you find a good enough crashed ship in that system you might be able to use the abandoned ship glitch to spend no cash on the Squid but I’m not sure if the ship locks in when you reload
Your positivity made me subscribe, well im here now, might as well stick arround
as of Sept 18 whenever I use the first wave spawn ive set up in Eissantam, im only getting 1 storage augment.
I was getting 3 before, but now im not so im confused.
Has something changed since the release of this video? I cant seem to find it and i know im in the right place
I have followed this and other videos to a tee, I waited hours upon hours and tried loding the save hundreds of times, I have played for over 90 hours and not one time have I even seen one exotic.
Love watching your videos Jason
love the energy, my man, very awesome vid! 👏
Liked and subbed, thanks for the helpful content my dude!
