Well in this video I will be going over the most rare items you can have in the game along with the most rare things you can actually see, and some of these are so rare you'll likely never see them without knowing exactly where to look.
As a bonus I will also be including some portal coordinates to some of the things on this list in the video at the end so make sure you stick around!
Thank you for watching!

Is there anything else you think should be worthy of this list?'
And for those of you saying "only 500 hours"
1. My total play time works out to nearly 25 full days, that's not nothing
2. Other games exist and I play a lot of them
3. I had a 2 year hiatus from NMS from 2018-2020
4. I have a life outside games
5. Chill out 😂
If it were not for the China Koof, I don't think as many people would be boasting 1000+ hours. 😂
I have over 1400... but only like 500 of that since my job existed again. 😂
And a good portion was spent standing in a station hunting ships, listening for exotics while I did the dishes or watched a movie on my laptop.
A good portion was spent waiting on refiners too. 😂
lol. Only 500. I managed 500 hours in 3-4 months WITH a full time job and playing on a local sports team. Those are rookie numbers.
@@Malkavscorpio1984 tell me you don't have a life without telling me you don't have a life. It's honestly tragic so many people are bragging about how many hours they've spent in a game, so so so sad 🤣
And some of us have a full time job 😅
@@BunkzGaming Just because you can’t manage a life, full time job, and game doesn’t mean I can’t. Means I stay busy as I like to do. Doesn’t change that ya made a video of content of the rarest things on nms that been made by all the other bigger RUclipsr already made with the exact same items. And you can’t tell me you have much of a life since your dedicating it to making a gaming RUclips channel
Experienced players know the rarest things in NMS are common, always active creatures when they're the last one you need to 100% a planet😅
Ain't that the truth 🤣

BREAKING NEWS
The Photonix Core is available preinstalled in the Starborn Runner, obtained as an end result of completing every phase of the Omega Expedition. It can be repackaged and moved into any other ship. Still hunting for a way to dupe it and put it on all of my ships.
🤣
That's what I was thinking!
I've just started playing a I run across those walking rocks everywhere. If you spend much time blasting rocks to gather resources you'll find them hiding amongst the piles of rocks.
Yeah I found those everywhere on the second planet I explored on my main save. That planet ended up becoming my "homeworld" so I saw a lot of them XD
*laughs in ship customization*
Just buy a bunch of NPC ships and scrap them for parts, easy peasy.
@@Human_6181 8:17 he’s talking about this right here
My most recent playthrough has been incredibly lucky. I was surprised to see a walking rock scurry away while mining within the first few hours. I also got my hands on a really nice S class royal exotic ship. It was just chilling at a space station fairly early on. I also made my base on a really cool paradise world with this interesting visual phenomenon/filter where far away objects are tinted blue, but up close they turn green. Its hard to even describe the effect. Am I crazy or did the odds of seeing rare objects get turned way up in the recent patches?
Were you playing the expedition?
I see a walking rock in the first hours of nearly every expedition. I think Hello Games loosen up the RNG on them for early in expeditions, when players are most likely to be mining rocks. I have seen them in a free play save too... but very few. And never a big boulder, I didn't know that was a thing til this video. 😂
I think they did loosen up the RNG on exotic ships in a recent update, cus I have been seeing them way more often, even in 2 and 1 star economies.
If you go to a weird galaxy... check the wiki for which are weird... you see the strange chromatic planets and mega-flora and stuff way more often. You will see it when you visit empty systems too... ones with no dominant race and no space stations. The ones you find Cadmium, Emeril and Indium in.
I found a fissured planet right at the start of my playthrough, think it was in the system after my first warp and was where I found my very first salvaged ship after the Pillar. Had no idea how rare it was, but that crash site is also my first base.
Nice, like I said they're not as rare as some things in the game but they're probably the most rare planets 😊
I spawned on one in a survival playthrough and died to a 'wall of fire storm'or whatever the game said was approaching me lmao.
One of the first few planets I made a base on, had a bunch of walking rocks which always jumped scared the heck out of me.
They weren't as big as the one you found.
That’s pretty cool
One of the first few planets I ever visited had giant ones and I thought it was normal…
Damn, I didn't know that robotic creatures are rare! I recently found a moon with 3 types of them, I even got one as a companion. Genuinely wouldn't have known without you.
Edit: Correction it had 2 types.
What system you play NMS on? What location in NMS are you?

one rare thing you can add is rare building generation.
I just got back into NMS, only playing it on release for a few months previously, but in those months I came across a crashed freighter that had a trading post at the edge of it, which had another crashed freighter 100 or so yards away. freighter sandwich!
You could make some really interesting lore about it. I'd also put a base right there lol
I recently found an Atlas station where the entrance was covered by a destroyed freighter. couldn't land in it.
Rarest thing in nms is finding another player in the wild
I managed to spawn with the other player on ONE starting player. We were separated in about 2 kilometers ingame between ship landing site.
I have a runaway mold farm where the pods spawn amongst a group of rocks, about once a week a rock crab will jump up and run if I hit him while harvesting. I have seen two squid ships in the wild and didn't buy either because I didn't realize (at the time) how rare they are and I don't particularly like the way they look. I do have that light ball and an electric gazelle as pets.
I found a yellow squid in a space station and even tho I wasn't interested in buying, I recruited the pilot to my squadron 🤣🤣
I built a lounge on a Light Fisure planet. I call it Light City Lounge. In Euclid.
Dope
@@auroratic9983 there's always one. Looks like it's you. Your real life must be pathetic.
Been playing NMS for about a month and a half and have discovered one of the light pillar planets that isnt in muted color and they are quite beautiful
11:47 I saw two merged planets in an earlier No Man's Sky video before. But damn, this looks terrifying. It looks like a dying star, which is about to swallow the planet you're walking on.
That planet you've shown is literally the type of planet where I set up my gold farm 4 years ago when I was a total noob lol. I also got a moving rock on that planet while mining ferrite dust to build more extractors
I literally found a mechanical pet as well now
My first and only freighter I found out in space stopping Pirates is an S class lol I felt so lucky.
You should update this as a few things have become less rare and some new things have become more rare. The photonix core is now available through the starborn runner, quad superchargers in a square and a dreadnought is rarest known, and double squid from the first ships to come in when entering or loading a new system, which has now been proven real is extremely rare. Also the rock boi and light planet is rare? I’ve seen 5 different planets with rock boi, with the surface usually being red grass and found 13 different planets with light.
I found my blue squiddy in a wealthy system years ago, I was jumping to a portal to get a red one I found on reddit and found this one on the way. I have yet to find robotic wildlife, I will 100% build a base when I do. Literally the first planet I started on had the living rocks lol, it scared the shit out of me the first time it jumped out since I was really close to it lmao. I've been lucky enough to come across several colliding planets, it's definitely crazy looking from the surface. I have never seen that multitool, I must have it, I main the alien multitool I found at one of those little outposts. I only have 400 hours, but there are long stents where I didn't play (other games do exist 🤣)
I just started playing recently (~1 month now). My second sentinel pillar had a red and gray S class royal multi tool in it!
Ive found quite a few squid ships in the wild, short ones, long ones, extending ones(which to be honest may have been long ones and i just didnt notice them extend), had a striped one, pink, purple, blue. They are harder to find then most, but not that hard. If your ship hunting, you need a disturbing amount of patience.
I haven't been leaving yellow system that much on my current main save, but back in my very first main save, I used to encounter planets of light and chromatic planets (ones that are mostly in greys as if they had a filter) a lot. I don't know if that's because I left yellow systems more often or if it was a product of the version of the game that I was playing with at the time, since it was years ago
Since this video was made, they've added a way to get the Photonix Core, if you finished the Omega expedition the Starboard Runner has one equipped. Using the new expedition sub-save feature you could also make copies of it. It's still obtainable by doing the Omega expedition offline on PC, though it's debatable whether that counts as a "legit" way or not.
Ok, the longer your list went the more items I checked off and was shocked to see on there.
I’ve got walking rocks on my starter planet. Metal creatures on a metal color drained world. A second color drained world with both the light spheres and rolling balls you showed.
However the rolling balls got listed as extinct. Thankfully I saved one as a pet and hatched eggs.
I’ve also got the XO helmet because I’ve been in it since the beginning.
I’ve got to take some screenshots and share. Cheers for the great video bud.
As someone who turned around yesterday in the space station to see a Squid sitting there. Believe me when I say I QUICKLY bought that mf. And I didn't even know they were THAT rare. Just knew that were an exotic
Within the first 15minutes of playing this game a player found me struggling to survive, gifted me a squid ship fully loaded and showed me how to build a base.
He became the best friend i ever made in the online world.
so we just saying anything on the internet now
How😔
I haven’t even ran into a real player yet
and how would u be able to know if he was lying
@@mello4712
Tell him I’m new and could use a squid ship too
my buddy got this game and his starting planet was a colliding one, he just continued to die
The light planets don’t seem any rarer than the other exotics to me, I’ve found one each of the last two nights I’ve played even and I just logged out in a system with one. Having the near black and white chromatic light on one is a rare combination though.
Yeah I think planet type isn't as rare as some other things in the game, but worth mentioning it anyway 😊
I have found 4 squid ships in my 3000+ hours in the game. There was even a yellow one that I had found when multi-player first came out that was a guaranteed 1st spawn in the space station. It got patched out eventually but I gave a squid ship to so many people.
One of if not the rarest thing is white grass, paradise, with blue water, biolumenece grass, planets. I have only found 1 since day 1
Started by preordering NMS (PC Version), have been with it from day one. I have a red squid, found it in the wild, didn't think much of it at the time, I wanted the Tentacles to actually move like a Squid in the water, but alas not to be. I am KRLL in-game if you care, if you see me at Nexus hit me up for supplies, always glad to share. 3,026.5 hours in and 4 Galaxies reached the hard way. Any time spent in-game is worth it, still find crazy stuff these days. My first truly awesome discovery was of a Triple Star System, 3 Different colored Suns make for an interesting effect on some planets. Good presentation btw, subscribed!
3k and you've been to 4 galaxies😅 I have 1.5k and I still haven't been outside the first one
@@l0lkil3rcz26 max out your freighters hyperdrive, you can get like 5000 light years+ per jump. Make sure your engines on all vehicles can reach Blue, Red and Green stars. Use your freighter to reach a system with a black hole (as close to the limit of its hyperdrive range as possible.) Launch in a single seat ship, enter black hole, once through, call freighter to you. This way you can get about 7 or 8K (or more) light years in the shortest amount of time. Save at space stations so you can return at a later time, then use stations teleporter to board freighter. Wash, rinse, repeat. This works for me, but perhaps a better way, but not for me.
@@l0lkil3rcz26you haven’t completed the main storyline yet?
@@l0lkil3rcz26- only reason I left Euclid was for the Steam achievements. So much to see and do in the first galaxy there’s really not much point moving on in my opinion.
so, the coliding planets, collision will only be enabled on the planet you landed on. however if you summon your freighter, you can walk off of your freighter onto the planet
Ok so I have a little over 70 hours of play and have already find a planet with 2 robotic "lifeforms". Got both as pets. I think it was called a shattered planet in Euclid. I also have the yellow squid ship and 2 of the royal ball ships{the red one with the tall fin on top and the blue one that looks like the white one you showed here. Also have the blue ball ship that doesn't have the pointy bit on the nose on another save}. But i did find something today that I think is rare. Found a Monolith that had a portal interface that took Atlantium and gave a b class multi-tool reminiscent of Dissonant stuff. Looks cool but not sure of the rarity.
I call the dragonfly icon Q. anyone else heard of All Tomorrows?
YES some else noticed
I remember colliding planets or rings colliding with planets was much more common 2-3 years ago.
8:14 that aged well 😂
I believe the Photonic core is now available on the new starship you get as a reward for doing the recent (Omega) expedition. There is also a way to duplicate that ship on a second save so you can pack it without removing it from your original save's starship reward.
Soooo about that ship customization thing......
The colliding planets happened to me on my first time playing the game lol......thought it was a glitch. Was on a planet and then boom a planet with a ring just started going up from underneath the planet I was on 😅
I feel like if they added full customization, ship hunting would just completely die out, I think they should just let us recolor and add decals if we'd like to, like what they did with exocrafts and freighters
they could do it like where u have to get the ship then salvage it to get its "parts" to use on another ship
@scu11slayer that would be awesome. You'd still have shiphunting, but with the goal of searching for rare parts instead of hoping you come across the perfect ship.
@@EzraBridger167 yes it would cuase i went to a website to make a custom see for sentinal ships and was surprised how many parts they actully have
sooooo my theory came true lol
@@EzraBridger167
We now all got up to 3 photonics cores from the expedition.
I have had the colliding planets a couple of time and i dont really play that much. It looks absolutely bizarre when you are on the threshold between planets

Walking rock attack
I've gotten really lucky with the squid ships, I've played
i just started playing this game, never played before, and I did come across a walking rock. I thought it was just a thing in the game. I didn't realize it was rare
not me literally finding a planet of light right when you said it was the most rare 😂 mine was also just gray with weird light fauna
8:14this aged well 😂😂
"If they add ship customization, which i highly doubt" aged funny
I encountered those walking rocks before. Was funny when I was mining rocks but didn’t know they were super rare 😢
Oh yeah. The robotics! Actually my most beloved mount, quite good fella. Didn't know they're the rarest so this makes me extra happy.
I've found 2 squid ships in my 8 years and 3k+ hours of play.
Ya I will only keep a squid I found , I refuse to get one someone else found . That being said I have 2 squid in over 3000 hrs of play .
Walking rocks can be found on any planet, even airless 😊 I call them rock lobsters, have seen huge right down to the size of the player's boot lol
I didn't realize just how lucky I was when I played this game a long time ago. I got back into it and my old save had an S class royalty ship and matching S class royal multitool. The last time I played was just before the sentinal update I think because I had never seen any of the sentinal gear until I logged back on and saw dozens of them in the nexus along with the staff multitools.
Bro that’s hilarious. You mentioned walking rocks. Just came back and started a new game after only playing on release. Saw a walking rock within the first planet right in front of my first base 😂
I am the only person I know who accidentally stumbled across a squid ship. Never felt so shocked in my life
I just got into the game a few days ago and stumbled upon an abandoned A tier solar ship that I’ve fixed up nearly all the way(still have 3 storage slots to unlock) and I still don’t know if I was like *supposed* to find it through the campaign or not
I once found some walking rocks at the start of my first playthrough… I didn‘t notice they where so rare :O
I don't know if it was a glitch or not, but I actually got the Atlas Stone as a reward for a mission from a pirate system yesterday. So perhaps it's still available rarely from them.
I remember having tons of atlas stones back in the day and not thinking it was a big deal and now they are the rarest item 😂
Oh, I found one of the light planets! And it's not gray like in the video.
Portal glyphs: boat, bird, eclipse, diplo, sunset, face, galaxy, galaxy, fish, face, tent, balloon. (First galaxy)
I didn't realize robotic creatures were so rare. I found a paradise planet right next to my starting planet and it only had 2 lifeforms on it. Both were robotic. Can't remember the planet name but it's pastel pink and green.
Coordinates are: Bird, Sunset, Dragonfly, Galaxy, Sunset, Bird, Moon, Hexagon, Diplo, Balloon/Waypoint, Bird, Moon.
I also landed on a planet devoid of colour. I named it 'Noir'
Another thing I only seen once is a planet with anti-gravity storms.
I started a new normal save and found an A class royal multi-tool within the first hour. I instantly sold and scrapped everything to buy upgrades for it and to repair it
I have a Red & Blue version of the " Squid ". Found both at Trade Posts, on paradise planets with prosperity.
They are Both S-Class, and absolutely wicked in a fight. My Red has 1988LY jump range.
I haven't been playing the game for long, but I have come across 2 sentinel towers. And they both gave me an A-class multi-tool(both the same). Either I got extremely lucky as that being the first omni tool I found, or the changed the rate at which you get it.
Sadly, I think the walking rocks are a little more frequent now, at least for me and my friend, we recently started a fresh save and within our first day or 2, we both encountered one and have every now and again when mining for ferrite. I can say that we've yet to see one as massive as the one you showed, I'm looking forward to stumbling upon them now!
Damn. I got an S class Royal multitool on my first day. Didn’t know what sentinels were, let alone the towers. I just walked into it randomly, like I didn’t even fly over it, I just wandered on foot into it. I really wish I remembered where I got it. It is red with gold trim.
I could probably determine what planet it is on, but I don’t know how many sentinel towers one would need to search for it.
In the over 2k hours and 4 years I've been playing, I've randomly come across a squid ship twice... and I come across robotic animals all the time, and most of the planets I've come across, has 2, and the walking rocks, I've seen them a few times (but WAY less than the robotic animals) and only 2 were as big as the one in your video, not to mention they weren't random "fauna" they were random from rocks I was using my multitool on, I also come across light planets quite a lot, but the hexagon planets I've only see once on my own
500 hours, I found one in my first 20 and didn't have the credits to buy one. . . 💔💔💔
8:14 The long awaited day has finally come
Yo in my first save ever that i started pkaying 3 days ago there was a planet of light in my first system didnt stick around long but ill have to go back there and check it out more now that i know its rare, still got a base back on my og spawn world with a TP set up lol, i knew that would come in handy some day didnt think itd be this soon
I might just need to grab my physical copy back. Land nobody else might see is enticing.
Photonix Core can now be obtained by anyone who did Exbidition 12 as the ship you get as a final reward has it on it. I transfered a copy of the ship to my main save (has a core on it) then when I closed the expidition I, after having removed it from the copy of the ship in the expidition, transfered it to my main save as part of the transferable technology. If I wanted I could then replicate the ship via claiming the rewards at the quicksilver dude and get one there and have up to three. If I claim that ship in the next expidition after making a copy of the one on my main character I can theoretically get 2 more every expidition.
Oh that rock that jumped up was rare? Well good thing I watched this video! It was a rather small one though.
I see the walking rocks pretty frequently, it scares me every time. None have ever attacked me, they've all just scurried away from me
500 hours is not a bad playtime at all.
I had no idea that robotic animals were that rare, i just strolled through one of those worlds and took off after grabbing a couple robot pets. They remind me of the robot animals in the Horizon games
I started playing in 2018 and the very second planet I went to had rare occasions of small skittering rocks. I think I came across only one other planet where I saw such a sight.
had no idea the walking rocks were rare. scared the shit out of me when it happened.
Well the largest standard freighter I seen was a extremely long enterprise class they do exists I just saw only one though
When I first played the game i flew into a planet that had a constant magnetic storm. When you reach the surface the entire planet looks like the game Madworld, everything was neon white and black. I wish I had saved the location of that planet as Ive never been able to find it again or similar planet. All I have is a picture of it on a psn group chat I sent years ago
I found one system with colliding planets. I named the system Derp. I was gonna name it Derp Collision but clicked outside the UI and accepted the name. 😅🤣
If you want a exotic type ship ,one will spawn at a space station as part of the squadron that lands there after a freighter battle ,don't access the freighter after the battle go straight to the station one will be there or will fly in after a min or two
I've got a couple metal horses as pets. Bred one to make it really, really tall. They're good to ride because they're fast, but the camera is awful (it swings up and down widely as you ride). But pretty cool.
One of the strangest things I've seen was one planet that had a gigantic hole in the ground. Like, I mean absolutely huge... both wide and deep. Made a base at the top there just to mark the location. Never seen anything like it in 300 hours of playing.
I went to the bottom once and almost didn't get out. It's like the game glitched and you're not supposed to be there. Couldn't summon my ship down at the bottom. Luckily, I had a flying pet I could summon and upon riding it, I had to hug the side of the hole and the pet just rose up bit by bit. Again, like I said, it's like the game mechanics didn't mean for that hole to be there and definitely not to go down into it. Without the pet, I'm not sure if I could have made it out!
I've been playing for 140 hours and came across a wild squid ship, I was so happy
Minute 8:20 , i doubt your doubting
Chapter 5 did not end well considering NMS released ship customization.
Yeah, I'm happy about that though 🙂
I found a new speices last night, it was a roling starfish thing
I got one of the rare exotic ships from just sitting at a trading outpost for a couple minutes lol
I just came across this video today... and I had NO idea robotic creatures were this rare in the 250hours I have played.... I do actually have one, and THANK GOD I never abandoned it hehe. Also, I very recently discovered a de-colored planet. I love this game bro lol
Two things that might make the list: First, I found a system where the space station is in the ring of a planet. The entire inside of the station looked hazy. Second, the Incinerator weapon for the multitool. I don't believe it's ever "officially" been added to the game. It was discovered at specific locations for a short while, Jason Plays did a video on it, and then it was removed. You can still add it with save editors I guess, but AFAIK it's still not in game officially.
after 36 hours since i started a new game i was casually grabbing my laser gun to mine some rocks and then suddently the rock i was mining created legs and began to run away from me. Since my weapon was the one you get when you beggin the game it weak as hell so i went what felt like 6 minutes just running around scared of what would that walking rock do next cuz i didn't knew if it was going to shoot lasers at me or if it was gonna create wings and fly away or 1 hit kill me since i was in panic
Long story short this freaking rock took me 10 mins to kill after i calmed myself down from the absolute despair i was 10:05
I got those walking rocks on my home planet. Got over 1000 hours, never put thought on them being rare, lol
Btw you forgot the pre-order ships and multitools. The PS4 and PC ones are *technically* not rare since they are made from the same assets as the randomly generated ones I think, but the Switch version has a unique ship and multitool that is unobtainable on other platforms without mods.
I have personally come across walking rocks quite afew times myself, you just need to know what systems to look
So ive got about 38hrs of play thus far and I’ve come across quite a bit of those walking or in my case sprinting rocks. Didn’t know they could become pets. Def gna be given chase a bit more earnestly next time
The Ship customization aged well.
Happily proven wrong though, always wanted it 😊
Watching this five months later and realizing my friend has found a good number of planets of light in the timespan of a week 😮
I've seen walking rocks many times, but not usually big ones. I do remember seeing a post about one that was absolutely enormous and picked up a building with it.
This is even shown in a video on RUclips under the title: "No Man's Sky: The Observatory That Stood Up and Walked Away"
Did not age well, you can now make ur own ships 😭
It's about time they added it in 😂
I think I remember finding one of these planets of light with that grey filter some years ago but I had no idea it was rare. I also don't remember where the hell it was.
I found one yesterday and put a bade down i didnt even know they existed till i found it i only bought the game a few days ago
