As Alex noted, I'd love to know what the XC60 plug-in is comparably equipped to a base RX, which does have more features. I think its a very close call overall between the two.
You should get the Volvo over the Lexus hands down. The RX is just a nicer rav4. Luxury cars are smooth riding and fun to drive and they’re fast. All three of them combined to give you a real luxury experience. The RX can’t match any of its rivals pricier or cheaper
those are opinions. you are bad with definitions/vocabulary. It's the NX that is more akin to a premium RAV4, as they share the same dimensions and powertrains. The RX is a different iteration of the Lexus GA-K platform and offers more powertrain variants. Those are facts. The Volvos are nice vehicles, but they are older in design, and cannot offer the reliability of the GA-K platform vehicles or Toyota's hybrid powertrains. Agreed👍 Love it when the electric motors do all the propulsion, and the ICE is tuned simply for charging battery. Since there is some efficiency loss converting to electricity, maybe that's why?? Having no transmission whatsoever, (direct drive) and a simple, non VVT engine would seemingly be cheaper and more durable long-term.
70k plus for a RAV4 Prime. Admittedly, most of the RAV4 Prime's are advertised for 15 or 20k more than MSRP; but Toyota really needs to step back and be realistic in their vehicles. The Lexus line is a barely tarted up Toyota and is still running on an economy car drivetrain. Just no.
The rx is selling like hotcakes so I don't think they need to be concerned. They are also outselling the competitors so perhaps this is exactly what people wants
We never know what the availability will be like when we first video a car. Our local Lexus dealer however says the wait there (Bay Area) is about 5 months for a PHEV RX.
Doesn’t make sense to spend 70k plus on a car which obviously is a nice car and try to save on MPG. I think math is better to spend 50 k on a car with large 8 cillinder engine and use 20 k to burn gasoline for more than 10 years . Long time Lexus family here, currently 3 Lexus in my household. I do think this is a bit overpriced, $65k loaded would be sweet.
65k no way. 50k max. Because an xc60 starts less than the RX and it’s so much faster and same ev range
@@naveenthemachine I would buy 3 in CASH at $50K. The hardest part is asking my wife and son to pick the color. Money is the easiest part.
Nobody goes to a Lexus RX for the most-fun in the segment, and I dont know that they ever have. This seems squarely aimed at Lexus' long-standing customer base.
@@naveenthemachine a good day for trolling, eh?
@@joec1774 no a good day for facts and faults
There’s zero reason to choose the dressed up rav4 over the xc90 or xc60 as those are proper luxury cars
those are opinions. you are bad with definitions/vocabulary. According to studies from JDPower and others, Lexus offers a superior ownership experience at the dealer level as well, which is part of what constitutes luxury. Finally, the Lexus vehicles will offer higher resale value. @@naveenthemachine
@@joec1774different iteration of TNGA k? That platform is exactly the same. Whether you put it in a Camry nx rav4 or RX it’s the same platform.
Also more powertrain choices on paper sounds nice but considering none of them are that impressive to begin with why would you even offer that? In the nx for example there are 4 engines but none of them are impressive. You have 200hp, 239hp, 275hp, 300hp
Volvos design may look old but it’s a good thing. That designs timeless like the average Mazda or Honda. Not to mention that Volvo has excellent luxury and performance and precision that Lexus can’t match.
ICYDK the hybrid powertrains in lexus are also used in Toyotas. So why wouldn’t you just get a Toyota with that power train save the cash and do your maintenance at a Lexus dealer
Too bad it doesn’t qualify for the federal rebates.
I guarantee the V6 will appear in the new RX, soon. The model shown has already disappeared from some regions websites.
Given this starts at $70k, how much will the plug-in TX? Yikes! Makes me want to try to find a RAV4 Prime (I know, ha ha, corpulent opportunity!)
The tx550h PHEV is 81K
Lexus could introduce RX550h+ deploying TX V6 engine next year.
It seems unlikely. I spoke with the engineers and they said it’s going to be a TX exclusive for at least a few years
@@AAutoBuyersGuide 😞. Will Lexus introduce TX model outside US?
I don't like how many plug-in hybrids take 10+ seconds to get to 60 in EV mode. But I guess I'm more of an "EV with a back-up plan" person since I drive a Chevy Volt, where the EV and hybrid performance aren't very different.
Agreed👍
Love it when the electric motors do all the propulsion, and the ICE is tuned simply for charging battery.
Since there is some efficiency loss converting to electricity, maybe that's why??
Having no transmission whatsoever, (direct drive) and a simple, non VVT engine would seemingly be cheaper and more durable long-term.
Forget the Lexus, that’s one gorgeous neighborhood.
It just me, but I kept thinking that the terminator was driving with Alex? He looked bored. Will he be back? LOL
I can tell both Alex and the “terminator”😂 were very underwhelmed with the rx450h+.
you forgot to mention the run flat tires ?
100 more HP than a Niro EV but only around .6 faster, LOL
70k plus for a RAV4 Prime. Admittedly, most of the RAV4 Prime's are advertised for 15 or 20k more than MSRP; but Toyota really needs to step back and be realistic in their vehicles. The Lexus line is a barely tarted up Toyota and is still running on an economy car drivetrain. Just no.
Agreed 💯
I’d much rather get anything else over this rav4
The rx is selling like hotcakes so I don't think they need to be concerned. They are also outselling the competitors so perhaps this is exactly what people wants

What good is a review if one cannot get one, or if one has to wait 1-2 years to get one?
We never know what the availability will be like when we first video a car. Our local Lexus dealer however says the wait there (Bay Area) is about 5 months for a PHEV RX.
$77k before tax us NOT the one to go.. lol. Did I mentioned dealership's markups?
Doesn’t make sense to spend 70k plus on a car which obviously is a nice car and try to save on MPG. I think math is better to spend 50 k on a car with large 8 cillinder engine and use 20 k to burn gasoline for more than 10 years . Anyway buying the car for allot of people is emotional thing , not a calculated decision
The groceries, eating out, gasoline, electricity bills, food, Disney tickets, concerts, and $70k loan monthly car payment. Its too much! F the world economy!
Except some buyers pay cash and have no car payment. Lexus does not pretend to be the affordable option for the everyday driver. Perhaps a note to their marketing department would be appreciated? 😊
At this price range, I'd pick up a 2 year old fully loaded BMW X5 xDrive45e. Much faster/quicker with that sweet inline 6.

Toyota has pretty much backed themselves into a corner with their market segmentation strategy. The Corolla cross has now taken the place the RAV4 used to be in which has pushed everything else up by 10k. But they don’t exist in a vacuum.
You look great. How much weight did you loose? How long did it take?
The Lexus is just too small. Not enough cargo space. If you’re just going to use it as a city cruiser, I can see it, but then I also don’t see the point of getting a $90k car then. You can get a fully loaded top-trim Mitsubishi Outlander for half the price because they’ll actually give you the tax credit via leasing and the buyout price will be even lower!
