The worst part is the groom's mum didn't just stir things up and try to cause drama. In that email to Malina where she talked about legal action, she demanded that Malina give her a $500 "good faith" refund. It was a scam to get money out of the baker, which makes this not only very messed up, but also illegal.
This mother in law sounds EXACTLY like my mother in law!! Mine cancelled my Bachelorette party by telling my friends that the wedding was cancelled because I'd cheated. My father in law gave her $2000 to give to me and my now ex-husband to pay for alcohol for the wedding. She gave us $50 of the money, and kept the rest, tell my fil that I had spent the money on drugs. ( He stupidly believed her at the time). She also kidnapped my son and took him to Europe ( she forged paperwork for his passport). And she is the reason my marriage ended ( my ex has 3 brothers. All but one are divorced due to her meddling)! So yes, there really ARE mother's in law just like this one! Also, thank God Melina didn't use "Miranda's" real name! That could've been a REAL lawsuit of she had!
🤦♀️ that is one evil mil!!! I am so sorry it ended this way, I hope you are doing well now❤ Maybe ex husband and his brothers are opening their eyes and cut contact
Wow, I did not expect this plot twist at all. I wish this cake maker, the wedding coordinator AND the bride well. Especially the bride bc she married into a family with at least one member who is sketchy AF.
Depends on the situation, I absolutely despise my in laws but I wouldn't trade my fiance for anything in the world, its not like there's some law forbidding us from moving and never contacting them again
This starts with "Miranda" because if she had been on the up and up from the start there would have not been the opportunity for the MIL to perform the grift.
I'm pretty sure falsely holding yourself out as a lawyer is illegal in most states. Also, San Antonio seems like a strangely specific substitute--it doesn't actually matter (both because she has every right to her privacy and because most states have something against false representation of things like doctors or lawyers), but I'd guess she's in/from a city of a similar size to San Antonio in TX
@jammy25 it may have not made a difference. But given the rate of wedding stories troubles online it seems having people who can make changes, request invoices etc to have to also provide a code can be helpful.
So, the MIL is psychotic for doing what she did, but the "coordinator" was an idiot for acting like the bride rather than just telling the truth. That is just so strange that she did that and I'm not buying the "I'm new" excuse. I have never thrown a wedding, my own was literally at my house, but even I know that lying to the vendors is NOT a great way to start a business! What was she thinking????
Maybe bride was hoping that just this one time.. hopefully they will behave. But people like MIL do no behave, because their idea of behaving only works if they get exactly what they want.
If the MIL didn’t know that “Miranda” had set up everything as herself she may have figured it out when she was handed the cookie gift and realized she had an opportunity to try and grift money out of Melina. Melina was setting up the desserts alone so no one was around to hear MIL and her BS lies. Unless the whole story itself is fabricated. Which is always a possibility.
Excuse me, this story seems half told. The coordinator didnt wanted to ask "anything" because it would seem unprofessional, then proceeds to fill forms as if she was the bride? Im sorry, but I find it hard to believe to be the full truth. I expect a third update on this maybe from other people.
Agreed. She made some truly bizarre choices for a professional. How did she even secure a large contract with such little knowledge? My guess is there was some industry nepotism and someone hooked her up even though she had no experience. I have several friends who run their own businesses in the wedding industry, from planning, to floral, to photo, and EVERYONE who gets into the industry does so after essentially apprentice-ing by working for someone else in the industry first.
Omg!!! I actually called it on your other video! I thought of the possibility that the "mother of the bride" could be lying about an upcharge just to try and get money, I could have never guessed it would be the mother in law!!!! That is insane! Thank goodness the cake maker handled it the way she did and didn't give into the crazy lady and that she didn't put out the coordinators' actual name!!!!
Idk man… the wedding coordinator didn’t know she wasn’t supposed to submit a photo of her and her partner for a “bridal gift”? She thought she should put her own name as the bride when filling things out? Still sounds scammy (or else really unintelligent) to me
I knew there was something wrong with the “mother’s “ story when she said the area wasn’t her specialty. What kind of lawyer wouldn’t be able to handle a simple contact.
I am sorry, but I find the probability of the bride seeing the video and recognizing her "story", even though she supposedly doesn't know anything about it, miniscule. Way more probable scenario is that the wedding agent asked her friend to contact the baker and gave back some of the money to shut the family of the bride up.
Or the baker made the whole thing up, and this was the out she came up with when people started asking questions. I thought it was weird when the "mil" was saying she was from a family of lawyers but was threatening the baker. And now the wedding planner doesn't know how to setup vendors? This still seems off.
There was something off about the whole $5k up charge thing that was throwing me. Like how dumb could you be to up charge $5k on a $2500 bill?? Now makes sense that a crazy MIL would be stupid enough to do that.
It sounds like the mother in law was trying to make some easy cash- remember she asked for a “good faith” return of $500 from the baker. She probably figured a lot of these vendors would rather give up that much money than to deal with a legal case.
I feel like if the wedding planner was the one who directly paid the vendors and then she was just reimbursed that it actually makes more sense that she was the one who signed the contract. She technically was the customer. I think that business practice is wacko- why would you go out of pocket up front and then hope you get paid back? A better plan would be for her to find the vendors and work everything out but have her clients pay the vendors directly and then just bill for her services at the end.
I think the last thing you said is normal practice and the planner did the regular oops of new business people- putting money in before the client has paid. Lots of independent contractors like consultants and planners and even artists that work on commission make that mistake at first. But I've never seen it be regular practice in any profession other than a 9-5. Hopefully she's learned something from this mess because yeah that's a real easy way for her to get screwed over
@@qryptid I just feel so scared for her- she is putting herself in a position to be on the hook for thousands of dollars. If she is the one signing the contracts and she is responsible for paying vendors then she is the client. If something happens then she is ultimately responsible for paying that money. That is a lot to loose.
@@Emjay.d I totally agree, with small jobs it's one thing but wedding planning is so much money and people can be soooo scummy. Like at least get deposits with those contracts.
