A big 'thank you' to all the service personnel to served in the military helping keep this country free. No thanks to all the domestic enemies, radical judges, and people like Obama.
That was brilliant. This song always makes me so proud to be an American and those pictures remind me of what a beautiful country we share. God bless the USA!!
WE ARGUE AND DISLIKE SO EASILY AND LOOK WHAT WE HAVE. THESE SOLDIERS FIGHTING FOR OUR RIGHTS NOT CARING WHO LIKES OR DISLIKES US. THANK YOU FOR THOSE WE LOST AND THOSE STILL FIGHTING MAY GOD BE AT YOUR SIDE EVERY MINUTE AND THANK YOU YOU ARE IN MY EVERY DAY PRAYER
I remember singing this song, in the fall of 1969, when I entered the third grade. Our class had a record, and it was a little bit more "upbeat." Brings back many fond memories. 1969..... wow.... that was four decades ago. Where did all the time go?!?!?!?
This song was meant to be a protest song against what America had become, not a national "feel good" song. Thank you for posting the rest of the lyrics Konform2zoidberg.
This is a patriotic song. It was written in the agony of The Great Depression and it expresses that feeling in the last verses. It also expresses hope that the American Dream still lives.
When the phrase "In God we trust" was first used by the US government in 1864, it was only put on coinage. The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 ("One nation under God"). These were both well after the writing of the Constitution. The First Amendment begins:"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." Thomas Jefferson, in his personal correspondence with the Danbury Baptist Association, supported a "wall of separation between church and state."
The most important verse has been edited out of this version: There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me; Sign was painted, it said private property; But on the back side it didn't say nothing; This land was made for you and me.
@Solinvicti Yes! That's my favorite verse! Without it, the meaning of the song is completely changed. It's startling how horribly this song has been misinterpreted over the past 60 years because people have left out the essential verses!
Abraham placed halves of a heifer, goat, and ram, plus 2 birds on two altars. Genesis 15:17 "When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces." So began an alliance (Hebron) with God and Man (Hebrew "sojourner in a land not our own") (reflections on Joshua 14) For those of you who are not from the United States, I hope we all understand I use this in representation of what I hope is the Child of God's vision for Earth.
As I was walking That ribbon of high way I saw above me that endless sky way I saw the below me That golden valley This land was made for you and me x2 This land is your land, this land is my land From the California to the New York island From the Redwood Forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me I roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts And all around me , a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me When the sun comes shining, then I was strolling In the wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling The voice was chanting as the fog was lifting This land was made for you and me This land is your land and this land is my land From the California to the New York island From the Redwood Forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me (Beginning intro again) When the sun comes shining, then I was strolling In wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling The voice come chanting as the fog was lifting This land was made for you and me (Beginning intro again)
@callmecarrieann Actually, Guthrie himself took those verses out because it changed the tone of the song too much. But so what if he'd decided to talk about relief lines? You have a very narrow view of patriotism.
here they got cut off because last post was two months ago rest of original lyrics As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there And that sign said - no tress passin' But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me! In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple Near the relief office - I see my people And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin' If this land's still made for you and me.
everybody who thinks this is just a patriotic song should read the whole lyrics. It's rather a reminder to stand up against injustice. And also causing patriotic feelings, maybe.
The original song was a response to "God Bless America", a song that Guthrie thought was unrealistic and complacent. So he wrote this in response. Most people leave this verse out: In the squares of the city In the shadows of the steeple near the relief office I see my people And some are grumbling and some are wondering if this lands still made for you and me. That's why I hate it when people spin this song around and turn into a patriotic tune. It's the exact opposite.
ah the censored version. Here are the rest of the lyrics for those of you not familiar As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there And that sign said - no tress passin' But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me! In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple Near the relief office - I see my people And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin' If this land's still made for you and me.
DJSHANE24, America may not be in the best of financial statues right now, but this song is not about that. This song is about how anyone and everyone in America is part of that great, free country and that anyone can become a part of America.
Let's hope so. Homeland Security or the INS or whoever is responsible for deciding who gets to be a US citizen is very strict and even the fact that the country I was born and raised in is a very rich one does not seem to be of any help. Nor is my knowledge of American History. :/
Jake Schwartz Nah it was a joke really, and I hate social progressivism in most of its aspects, I only like Bernie for economics. You know what, Trump is better than Hilary that's for sure.
Thank you for the song , it always remind me that I am American . God bless America .
God bless America! That doesn't matter who is president, main thing is that all of us are AMERICANS!
GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!
I AM SO THANKFUL TO BE LIVING IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!
A big 'thank you' to all the service personnel to served in the military helping keep this country free. No thanks to all the domestic enemies, radical judges, and people like Obama.

@JusRam1 Yeah, I'm with him.
It ain't my land though. :( I wish it was, but becoming a citizen of the US is basically impossible if you're born in Central Europe.
Don't stop trying. It will work out, trust me.
Let's hope so. Homeland Security or the INS or whoever is responsible for deciding who gets to be a US citizen is very strict and even the fact that the country I was born and raised in is a very rich one does not seem to be of any help. Nor is my knowledge of American History. :/
I didn't realize becoming a citizen was that hard. Keep your head up and keep trying!
Hope you make it here soon brother
PAXperMortem Your welcome any time! God bless the USA!
The original version of this song is so much better.
it's a nice melody, but the americans are very proud of their country, aren't they?

who sings this song where can i download it?
The irony! This song is anything but a conservative patriotic song.
I too noticed that it left the stanza about private ownership. Hmmmm...
Who's the singer of this version of the song?? Thanks...
Can someone please tell me who is the artist???
uhm, read the lyrics carefully and get yourself some info about what Guthrie stood for.
If more people believed in helping each other instead of this shitty "Everyman for himself" mentality. There would not be wars, famine or poverty.
I do know that this song is an expression of socialism as patriotism?
This version is typical KITSCH
You do know that this song is an expression of socialism as patriotism?
Good job on missing the whole point of this song.
I thought it was the Native American's land... Y'know before the whole multiple genocides thing.
No surprise you made an idiotic comment considering your profile picture... Trump 2016
Jake Schwartz Nah it was a joke really, and I hate social progressivism in most of its aspects, I only like Bernie for economics. You know what, Trump is better than Hilary that's for sure.
Biden 2020
you do realize that this song is anti-Patriotic don't you?
how?
God bless America
